  • Pink Floyd forever, Richard Wright was a big man, Rip Rick, you will make necessary!

  • Thank you from Bulgaria bigbeninjax ! I join my teras to the others' !

  • RIP Rick Wright, you will always be my favorite Keyboarder see you in Heaven

  • :(

  • OK guys! Listen to this! I always thought that because of misprinted information that Rick Wright shared the same birth date as my mother (July 28, 1945). Actually, he was born two years earlier. Today I just discovered that Rick Wright passed away while watching these videos! So, going into my Corrected Aztec Calendars, I knew I would find a correlation. Yesterday, 12-10-2011 was the day "9-Monkey," - Rick Wrights Aztec Birth Date for July 28th 1943. Mesoamerican Calendar Studies Dot Com

  • No way... I just found out that he passed away a few years ago.... I'm so.....Speechless....

    We've lost a great musician.... R.I.P

  • Legendary sounds, Awesome musicians, R.I.P. R Wright...

The Floyd sound to me is like no other....

  • Did he die from cancer? Loose way to many good people from this bullshit. Very sad.

  • I-M-M-E-N-S-O

  • I was a teenager when I first heard The great gig in the sky. It made me cry. So beautiful. It still does to this day.

  • A great artist... this is what he was .. only a great artist.... :(

  • porque esses dementes sequelados colocam propaganda no inicio do video?? muita fdputice isso.

  • @jorgginhodib You see advertisements in your country? Not here. I suppose it is Youtube/Google trying to make money. I have no control over them. I wish I did!

  • I'm moved to tears by this beautiful tribute, thankyou...

  • @janmadytay You are most welcome.....the song is almost like Rick was writing his own eulogy.

  • This man and all of Pink Floyd's music will echo throughout the generational divide. truly magnificent work, I could only dream of making something like this band has done over and over again. If writing music like this is the only way to keep this great memory alive, then so be it!. I only wish that I could meet all of them to just tell them simply, thank you. for making my life complete.

rest in peace, and I wish all of them well.

  • gosh i miss you :(

  • ... più passa il tempo e più mi manchi Richard! Per sempre con te, ovunque tu sia!

  • Good work

  • Pink Floyds sound genius.

  • I'm just sorry im too young to have ever been able to see him play live. <3 you Rick :)

  • I'm a 16 year old aspiring pianist, and richard wright is the artist i look up to most :) "how i wish, how i wish you were here" to teach me all your tricks. The world could do with a few more like him. He will be sorely missed, may he sleep easy knowing he made the world a more beautiful place.

  • wonderful :) RIP mate ! ...I hope your time was as sweet as your chord progression at 0:34

  • @zghvbn1 Thanks for the comment.

  • @zghvbn1 I was privileged enough to see them twice...thank you

  • who the hell hit the dislike...jerk

  • nice video RIP

  • It's still hard to me to accept that Rick is no longer with us,but life goes on,and regardless of everything, years go by,persons come and go,but the magic, the songs and melodies, and further fond memories remain the same...

    God bless you Rick...

  • God bless Richard Wright....

  • at 4:04 understatement of the year

  • I had forgotten the date but i remember him every night listening to animals, rick wright will allways be remembered

  • felt the vid failed in that it returned to previously used photos in the edit. plus igt was too meloncolic and not celebrating Richards amazing life. well thats what i think anyway...

    keep on trucking man

    Haddockcheese

  • @haddockcheese Good points about celebrating Rick's life and I probably would have if I had made this a month or so after his death, but I was pretty bummed on the day he passed and I guess it shows. Thanks for the constructive commenting, tho....kinda rare on Youtube these days where trolls are more the norm. Cheers...or Have a Cigar!

  • many thanks to the floyd for providing the soundtrack of my life !

  • @darkempire37 I hope that was Money! '-)

  • R. I. P. DEAR RICHARD!!! SWEET SOUND OF THE LEGEND!!!!

  • Cheers mate for posting. Even if the Floyd were to ever reunite again, it wouldn't be the same without Ric. Peace.

    --From a Yank.

  • ICH WERDE DICH NIE VERGESSEN-EUCH ALLE NICHT!!!!!!!!!!

Danke für die beste Musik aller Zeiten!!

  • I absolutely loved seeing him play. What a fantastic, brilliant artist. So integral to my formative years, Pink Floyd would not have been the same without him.

  • Yup.

  • .... grazie per tutte queste emozioni che ci hai lasciato ...... RIP

  • This is surely his masterpiece..... RIP

  • gracias por todo maestro

  • tomorrow is third anniversary of your flight! Hope see you oneday....:(

  • Thank You Rick And Good Bye........

  • Which DONKEY disliked this video?

  • Grande, per sempre.

  • Happy Birthday....

  • @marc25052005 Thanks for the reminder.

  • He and Claire Torry made a masterpiece!!!!!!!!...thanks friends...

  • ...immensa è la tua mancanza....grazie d essere esistito......ciao rick....

  • the persons who dislike this video are horrible.

  • We will never forget!

  • Richard, you are the best - thanks for all. Gerd.

  • I'd just like to wish an RIP to Sid and Richard, and a big thank you to David, Roger, and Nick for keeping the music going.

  • Richard dying is proof Jim Morrison went to hell. God needed a keyboard player so he could try to recreate what The Floyd did on earth. Dave Nick and Roger better watchout. Cuz anyone trhat has tried to cover Pink Floyd knows how frustrating it can be to get it to sounds good.

  • Oh Richard Wright, why did leave so suddenly?.... Our souls are crying because you are gone.

  • Pink Floyd is not a band that i love or admire....Pink Floyd is my way of living

  • Very moving, thank you!

  • i can't even start to believe its almost been three years since Rick passed...

when the last Pink Floyd member dies i die..

at least i should, Pink Floyd helped me keep my life in my depression..

    without them i'm not here

  • Just....great!

  • I can't even describe my emotions, when I listen to this masterpiece. Truly breathtaking....It's just more than a song. Like it's reflecting his own life in a way...

Rest in peace Richard. You were always my favorite Floyd. :(

  • You know, most associate either Roger or David as "being" Pink Floyd, but really, it was Richard all along. I mean, they all had great things that they brought to the band that evened things out, but once Wright left, the style changed completely and it's considerably noticeable if you listen to something like the Wall, and than say, Meddle. Plus, he was the only one that kinda maintained that Floyd feel during his solo campaign. :/

  • Perfect song for this.... Rick you will be greatly missed./ thank you for all you've done!

  • I am thankful that David Gilmour, along with being a major talent, was also a patient man who cared for Rick as a musician and a friend.

  • Please don't take this as in a bad way anybody, but do you believe in getting spiritual connections with past celebrities? just curious please don't take it in a bad way

  • An AMAZING contribution to Music History!! Floyd, among others of that time period, sil NEVER be matched. Simply amazing music!

  • I agree that RICHARD will be sorely missed due his immense talent...

  • He was an inspirational entity of my own life ,and maybe the "Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot " can have it all AGAIN . Amen.

  • this song is so awesome, still can't get the timing right while playing the bass parts though

    R.I.P rick

  • thank you richard !!

  • Pink Floyd has a unique sound that no one has even attempted to copy. They are a Rock and Roll Orchestra with a great historical part in this world. Their music spans many generations, and touched people of all ages, and walks of life. But all good things have to come to an end, our lives have an expiration date. But our legacy, and the memory lives well beyond our physical lives. It is amazing of the talent God gives us, but some men like Richard Wright use it superbly.

  • Richard Wright would surely love to look down and see his bandmates put their differences aside and atleast once more play some of the amazing music they created for those who love it so much, lets hope!!!!p.s.,if they do please come to Toronto, lol. RIP Richard&Syd.

  • restari sempre nel mio cuore rick, sei il punto di riferimento dei tastieristi di tutto il mondo, GRAZIE DI TUTTO....R.I.P.

  • thank you...

  • A couple of the founder members of Pink Floyd played in a band called The Vikings in Cambridge before they became Pink Floyd ;o)

    Mark...

  • Thank you Sir Richard William Wright. See you in that Great Gig in the Sky.

  • I still find it hard to watch Rick Wright without feeling so much sadness. Pink Floyd died when Rick died and that is difficult to take.

R.I.P Rick and thanks for the memories.

  • My god how sad it is that Pink Floyds over... Ive just realized that its all over.....wooow.....damn......fuck they were great !

  • @horrorflesh

    i know that its over when i visit wikipedia and read : former members:david gimour,roger waters,syd barrett,nick mason,rick wright

  • 2 peoples on this world don't have any taste musical

  • Richard, I always think about you when I play guitar. I remember when you made me fish fingers. You weren't that famous legend. You were my best friend's dad. I was there near the end. I'm glad I thought of you in that way to start of with. Ben and I miss you. I know you tried to get Ben to learn Wish you were Here on guitar before you passed. I know you never got around to it, but it was the first song I ever learnt. The callusses on my fingers will fade. Your memory will not.

  • Character written all over his face.

  • Interesting statistic: the number of views for this video more than doubled from its daily average yesterday on the anniversary of Rick's passing. Indicates to me that date is still embedded in the minds and hearts of many of his fans. A fitting tribute in itself.

  • I remember where I was the first time I heard this track, actually. Sitting in my ex-fiance's car after a rather terrible, very painful argument. He is a big time Floyd fan (he looks creepily almost identical to Syd Barrett - and seems to have the exact same mind -_-) and this song was suddenly playing. Felt like everything stopped including my pain. It's funny how such wonderful music can be so much like a drug. Thank you Rick Wright. The Floyd has gotten me through many a trying time since.

  • @bigbeninjax

This brought tears to my eyes

  • @dsysm Yes, it is still a very hard song to listen to knowing that two of the members have passed.

So many great, respectful, and knowledgeable comments here, tho. Speaks well to the caliber of the musicians to have this caliber of fans.

  • @bigbeninjax I wouldn't validate the logistics of that last statement. Although, if you were to alter it and instead go on to state that the type of speakers that listen to a music speak well as to the caliber of music, that would be very much true, especially when speaking of Pink Floyd Fans.

  • @dsysm

    ME2

  • Great tribute to a greater than great man

  • Pink Foyd was unic, as Beatles in time.

Once again, British musicians, where ever they come.

  • @BPakke Agreed! I may get some disagreement, but I think the greatest contribution by the Brits to the world was their musical influence. Beatles, Floyd, Queen, ELP, Stones, ELO, Elton John, the list goes on...I'll even throw in Handel, Holst, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. They unified the world in a way that even the english language did not.

  • @bigbeninjax And Comedy! I'm an American, but I find the works of Monty Python superior to most american attempts. Of course, there is more than just Python in Britain, and obviously some who come close to British humor. Forgive my rambling. :P

  • @BPakke Totally agree my friend, our eccentricity, creativity and art is like the British Empire in that the sun never sets on its green and pleasant lands.

  • @BPakke you forgot to mention Led Zeppelin, DP,Black Sabbath, Motorhead,Cream,Eric Clapton,Phil Collins,Genesis,Iron Maiden,George Michael etc. I always tell people that everything that the British do has a touch of art & Passion to it. You dont believe me look at Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Land rover, Jaguar etc. Though i ain't british i love England.

  • @BPakke

sure, the Brit music influenced and united lots of people around the globe, including myslef, very different from what the Brit government/army have done along the history in many countries....

  • God Bless Pink Floyd

  • that nigga was da man amazingly beauty.

  • I still get chills when I listen to this .

    We miss you Richard.

  • almost 2 years that Richard left us. I miss both the friendly man and the musician, who was the sound of wall behind his friend David.

Very soon I will post a clip as tribute to the fabulous span.

    Stratochel

  • grande richard

  • This song is hauntingly beautiful!! The first time I heard it I was in high school. One day I came home drunk after my first party in high school , I was drunk and my folks gave me hell as I walked in the door. I went to my room crying and put this song on through my headphones and all of a sudden , everything was alright.

  • @luisoncln Excellent story! The songs of Floyd often have a way of putting life into proper perspective....this one in particular.

  • @bigbeninjax yes, indeed!

  • @luisoncln Then I can see that I'm not the only one that uses PF's music as medicine to dispel negative emotions such as fear, sadness, loneliness, etc. Yet, I not only use it when I am blue, I use it when I am feeling great as well.

  • What song is this? please tell me!

  • @foundationskater4lif It is "The Great Gig in the Sky" from Dark Side of the Moon. It was written by Rick Wright.

  • Thank you. What a wonderful tribute to a great musician and a great man.

  • @bucsea My pleasure....thanks for stopping by.

  • @bigbeninjax

I second bucsea's comment. RIP Richard Wright, Pink Floyd will always remain tied as my favorite band of all time along with Rush.

  • @airbrush4you Thanks, AirBrush. I'm sure your feelings are matched by many world-wide. Here we are nearly two years after Rick's passing and this vid is still going strong at over 34,000 views. It was the passing of an era.

  • all u touch and all u see, is all your life will ever be.

  • Pink Floyd and Queen all the way!

  • GRAZIE RICHARD

  • GRAZIE RICHARD R.I.P.

  • R.I.P Richard Wright. people who had commented saying their three trinity thing. Mine would have to be Floyd - Genesis - Beatles.

  • a great gig in the sky, and now he's in the sky.

    rip richard.

    long live pink floyd.

  • great song! rip rick

  • right on man! super!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The best keyboardist ever of the BEST BAND EVER!!!, We miss you Sir Richard William Wrigt, you've been such an inspiration for the history of music.

  • floyd queen beatles the musical trinity

  • Good choices Obelisk, but I think I'd have to put Steely Dan in there instead of Queen as the Trinity that I'd want to have if stuck on a deserted island.

  • good choice as there is room for all that add their unique stamp to music as my choices are neither comprehensive or complete and just refers to a small market

  • Quite true, there's nothing more subjective than musical tastes. Some like to argue technical musicality or rhythm or melody or whatever....I think the true test is "what can you listen to over and over and not get tired of it?" I suspect we'd get a lot of different opinions.

  • @Obelisk2290 Vero, in accordo al 100%

  • @Obelisk2290 don't forget zepplin. now we got ths supurb square.

  • @themetalman3

    Add in The Doors...

    Perfect Pentagon ;)

  • @MultiFunkalicious

Oh, and don't forget the Rolling Stiones

    the heroic hexagon. lol.

  • @Obelisk2290 rock speakin: floyd, yes, beatles, the who & zeppelin

all known music: bach, floyd, yes

  • r.i.p rick badley missed mate shine on you crazy diamond x

  • This song always seems different every time I hear. There's always something hidden to be revealed. Rick composed it, with fragments of sounds I had in mind, with chords inspired by Miles Daves, he always loved. This song is without a doubt, Zubby conductors such as Mehta, as a great work of pop music. Thanks Rick, for you have existed between these poor mortals. Thanks Floyd. Always and forever ... From: Vadilson - Belo Horizonte - BRAZIL

  • Totally Enthralling!

    RIP RICK!

  • Thanks, underpantswedgy. You're not related to that Christmas Eve plane bomber are you??? LOL.

But, yes, we know Pink Floyd was a great band but when you see those statistics of how many YEARS they were a top-seller, it is really mind boggling. I doubt we'll ever see that again.

  • We love you richard

  • Pink Floyd, undisputedly the greatest band ever.

  • @Hitmantmas

    RIGHT ON MAN!!

  • voleremo sempre con la tua musica grande rick per sempre nei nostri cuori

  • ow he was my mom age. oh man another great musician that is gone, one always hope they stay among us for ever, but life is like this, rip, rich from the floyd.

  • I think this was one of the saddest days for music.

Pink Floyd can never play again...before it was a maybe if they could get past thier differences...but now it's in stone.

  • God bless you Richard Wright.

  • Thank You for all the great times Richard

  • may you have the greatest gig in the sky.

    R.I.P

  • Richard, it's so sad, already goneone year. Hard to believe. Sad to know as well that with your pass away, an outstanding music period that you shared with your friend David, came definitively to an end. I do my very hard best to have you with me every day while playing my DG strat, leaded by your chords. I want to keep it alive for my grandchildren as well.

I'll teach them who was Richard Wright and his friend David Gilmour. I come again back next year.

  • ......to keep their music alive for your grandchildren.....a beautiful tribute!

You will always be welcome here.

  • thank you bigbeninjax :-)

  • Rick, one year gone today.....still missed.

  • David and Richard they were this the icon Pink Floyd. It will always be in my memory, to think that I will not see them together

  • Rumor has it there may be a reunion in the works with Roger, tho. Hopefully, some new music will come out of it and not just be another reunion tour.

  • It's not going to happen, Gilmour doesn't want to see anyone replace Wright, so therefore, there will never be a reunion, it's just simple logic, he told I forget who in an interview that.. It's sad but I understand his reasoning.

  • I think sometimes people forget that Gilmour is not alone Pink Floyd, he is a part of it, and every part is as important as all the others. Rick was a great musician and his memory will live on for many many years to come. R.I.P

  • Richard, és imortal.

    Obrigado.

    Até sempre.

  • be4 they were ....the pink floyd..... they were .......the architectural abdabs,...in cambridge,..architectural sxchool!....then syd flipped out,..then came mr.gilmour,...and this is pink fld as we know....REMEMBER. THE DAY!!!... by mr richard wright.... will always remember you!!..thank you 4 ur music nd ur talent...KEEP ON SHINING!!

  • Thanks for the additional information, matzi2007. The accomplishments of Rick and the band are far too many to put into 4:51.

  • Yeah very sad & that his death but fuck man cut the keep on shining cheese !

  • First Syd Barret

    Now Richard

People die, but Pink Floyd will remain

  • Thats called being immortal!

  • He was unique and

    unforgettable

    Thanks rick

  • Nicely Done...Sorely Missed for sure....

  • This song show us how, sometimes, words are not needed. Just like him, his music spoke for him.

Now I realize how much I miss him.

  • 741 weeks in the top 200, that in itself says just how great a band they were, and I wish they were here.

  • My friend, you really hit the nail on the head... Pink Floyd is and will ever be the one of the best bands ever. 741 weeks. That is over 20 years, and no one will ever beat that!

  • A very sad moment when he died.

  • i know i am speechless. i didnt even know he had died, its been a long time since i pulled out the floyd to listen to, and needless to say im in tears. thanks for the tribute. rip richard....

  • Your welcome. I know how you feel. There were many of us who realized a large influence and part of our lives was suddenly taken away from us.

  • RIP....LUV THIS SONG!

  • Why ? Why? Why did you leave us, Rick?

  • Thank you very much, Rick!! Rest in Peace

  • Here come the tears again :*(

    I miss you Rick

  • The quiet genius of Floyd from start to finish. No Rick,no Floyd.

  • off to the great gig in the sky R.I.P. Rick

  • I came across this post six months on, and the tears returned. What a gentle soul he was.
