OK guys! Listen to this! I always thought that because of misprinted information that Rick Wright shared the same birth date as my mother (July 28, 1945). Actually, he was born two years earlier. Today I just discovered that Rick Wright passed away while watching these videos! So, going into my Corrected Aztec Calendars, I knew I would find a correlation. Yesterday, 12-10-2011 was the day "9-Monkey," - Rick Wrights Aztec Birth Date for July 28th 1943. Mesoamerican Calendar Studies Dot Com
@jorgginhodib You see advertisements in your country? Not here. I suppose it is Youtube/Google trying to make money. I have no control over them. I wish I did!
This man and all of Pink Floyd's music will echo throughout the generational divide. truly magnificent work, I could only dream of making something like this band has done over and over again. If writing music like this is the only way to keep this great memory alive, then so be it!. I only wish that I could meet all of them to just tell them simply, thank you. for making my life complete.
I'm a 16 year old aspiring pianist, and richard wright is the artist i look up to most :) "how i wish, how i wish you were here" to teach me all your tricks. The world could do with a few more like him. He will be sorely missed, may he sleep easy knowing he made the world a more beautiful place.
It's still hard to me to accept that Rick is no longer with us,but life goes on,and regardless of everything, years go by,persons come and go,but the magic, the songs and melodies, and further fond memories remain the same...
felt the vid failed in that it returned to previously used photos in the edit. plus igt was too meloncolic and not celebrating Richards amazing life. well thats what i think anyway...
@haddockcheese Good points about celebrating Rick's life and I probably would have if I had made this a month or so after his death, but I was pretty bummed on the day he passed and I guess it shows. Thanks for the constructive commenting, tho....kinda rare on Youtube these days where trolls are more the norm. Cheers...or Have a Cigar!
I absolutely loved seeing him play. What a fantastic, brilliant artist. So integral to my formative years, Pink Floyd would not have been the same without him.
Richard dying is proof Jim Morrison went to hell. God needed a keyboard player so he could try to recreate what The Floyd did on earth. Dave Nick and Roger better watchout. Cuz anyone trhat has tried to cover Pink Floyd knows how frustrating it can be to get it to sounds good.
I can't even describe my emotions, when I listen to this masterpiece. Truly breathtaking....It's just more than a song. Like it's reflecting his own life in a way...
Rest in peace Richard. You were always my favorite Floyd. :(
You know, most associate either Roger or David as "being" Pink Floyd, but really, it was Richard all along. I mean, they all had great things that they brought to the band that evened things out, but once Wright left, the style changed completely and it's considerably noticeable if you listen to something like the Wall, and than say, Meddle. Plus, he was the only one that kinda maintained that Floyd feel during his solo campaign. :/
Please don't take this as in a bad way anybody, but do you believe in getting spiritual connections with past celebrities? just curious please don't take it in a bad way
Pink Floyd has a unique sound that no one has even attempted to copy. They are a Rock and Roll Orchestra with a great historical part in this world. Their music spans many generations, and touched people of all ages, and walks of life. But all good things have to come to an end, our lives have an expiration date. But our legacy, and the memory lives well beyond our physical lives. It is amazing of the talent God gives us, but some men like Richard Wright use it superbly.
Richard Wright would surely love to look down and see his bandmates put their differences aside and atleast once more play some of the amazing music they created for those who love it so much, lets hope!!!!p.s.,if they do please come to Toronto, lol. RIP Richard&Syd.
Richard, I always think about you when I play guitar. I remember when you made me fish fingers. You weren't that famous legend. You were my best friend's dad. I was there near the end. I'm glad I thought of you in that way to start of with. Ben and I miss you. I know you tried to get Ben to learn Wish you were Here on guitar before you passed. I know you never got around to it, but it was the first song I ever learnt. The callusses on my fingers will fade. Your memory will not.
Interesting statistic: the number of views for this video more than doubled from its daily average yesterday on the anniversary of Rick's passing. Indicates to me that date is still embedded in the minds and hearts of many of his fans. A fitting tribute in itself.
I remember where I was the first time I heard this track, actually. Sitting in my ex-fiance's car after a rather terrible, very painful argument. He is a big time Floyd fan (he looks creepily almost identical to Syd Barrett - and seems to have the exact same mind -_-) and this song was suddenly playing. Felt like everything stopped including my pain. It's funny how such wonderful music can be so much like a drug. Thank you Rick Wright. The Floyd has gotten me through many a trying time since.
@bigbeninjax I wouldn't validate the logistics of that last statement. Although, if you were to alter it and instead go on to state that the type of speakers that listen to a music speak well as to the caliber of music, that would be very much true, especially when speaking of Pink Floyd Fans.
@BPakke Agreed! I may get some disagreement, but I think the greatest contribution by the Brits to the world was their musical influence. Beatles, Floyd, Queen, ELP, Stones, ELO, Elton John, the list goes on...I'll even throw in Handel, Holst, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. They unified the world in a way that even the english language did not.
@bigbeninjax And Comedy! I'm an American, but I find the works of Monty Python superior to most american attempts. Of course, there is more than just Python in Britain, and obviously some who come close to British humor. Forgive my rambling. :P
@BPakke Totally agree my friend, our eccentricity, creativity and art is like the British Empire in that the sun never sets on its green and pleasant lands.
@BPakke you forgot to mention Led Zeppelin, DP,Black Sabbath, Motorhead,Cream,Eric Clapton,Phil Collins,Genesis,Iron Maiden,George Michael etc. I always tell people that everything that the British do has a touch of art & Passion to it. You dont believe me look at Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Land rover, Jaguar etc. Though i ain't british i love England.
sure, the Brit music influenced and united lots of people around the globe, including myslef, very different from what the Brit government/army have done along the history in many countries....

@luisoncln Then I can see that I'm not the only one that uses PF's music as medicine to dispel negative emotions such as fear, sadness, loneliness, etc. Yet, I not only use it when I am blue, I use it when I am feeling great as well.

Good choices Obelisk, but I think I'd have to put Steely Dan in there instead of Queen as the Trinity that I'd want to have if stuck on a deserted island.
good choice as there is room for all that add their unique stamp to music as my choices are neither comprehensive or complete and just refers to a small market
Quite true, there's nothing more subjective than musical tastes. Some like to argue technical musicality or rhythm or melody or whatever....I think the true test is "what can you listen to over and over and not get tired of it?" I suspect we'd get a lot of different opinions.
This song always seems different every time I hear. There's always something hidden to be revealed. Rick composed it, with fragments of sounds I had in mind, with chords inspired by Miles Daves, he always loved. This song is without a doubt, Zubby conductors such as Mehta, as a great work of pop music. Thanks Rick, for you have existed between these poor mortals. Thanks Floyd. Always and forever ... From: Vadilson - Belo Horizonte - BRAZIL
Thanks, underpantswedgy. You're not related to that Christmas Eve plane bomber are you??? LOL.
But, yes, we know Pink Floyd was a great band but when you see those statistics of how many YEARS they were a top-seller, it is really mind boggling. I doubt we'll ever see that again.
ow he was my mom age. oh man another great musician that is gone, one always hope they stay among us for ever, but life is like this, rip, rich from the floyd.
Richard, it's so sad, already goneone year. Hard to believe. Sad to know as well that with your pass away, an outstanding music period that you shared with your friend David, came definitively to an end. I do my very hard best to have you with me every day while playing my DG strat, leaded by your chords. I want to keep it alive for my grandchildren as well.
I'll teach them who was Richard Wright and his friend David Gilmour. I come again back next year.
It's not going to happen, Gilmour doesn't want to see anyone replace Wright, so therefore, there will never be a reunion, it's just simple logic, he told I forget who in an interview that.. It's sad but I understand his reasoning.
I think sometimes people forget that Gilmour is not alone Pink Floyd, he is a part of it, and every part is as important as all the others. Rick was a great musician and his memory will live on for many many years to come. R.I.P
be4 they were ....the pink floyd..... they were .......the architectural abdabs,...in cambridge,..architectural sxchool!....then syd flipped out,..then came mr.gilmour,...and this is pink fld as we know....REMEMBER. THE DAY!!!... by mr richard wright.... will always remember you!!..thank you 4 ur music nd ur talent...KEEP ON SHINING!!
My friend, you really hit the nail on the head... Pink Floyd is and will ever be the one of the best bands ever. 741 weeks. That is over 20 years, and no one will ever beat that!
i know i am speechless. i didnt even know he had died, its been a long time since i pulled out the floyd to listen to, and needless to say im in tears. thanks for the tribute. rip richard....

Obelisk2290 1 year ago 14
Good choices Obelisk, but I think I'd have to put Steely Dan in there instead of Queen as the Trinity that I'd want to have if stuck on a deserted island.
bigbeninjax 1 year ago
good choice as there is room for all that add their unique stamp to music as my choices are neither comprehensive or complete and just refers to a small market
Obelisk2290 1 year ago

I think this was one of the saddest days for music.
Pink Floyd can never play again...before it was a maybe if they could get past thier differences...but now it's in stone.

Rumor has it there may be a reunion in the works with Roger, tho. Hopefully, some new music will come out of it and not just be another reunion tour.
bigbeninjax 2 years ago
It's not going to happen, Gilmour doesn't want to see anyone replace Wright, so therefore, there will never be a reunion, it's just simple logic, he told I forget who in an interview that.. It's sad but I understand his reasoning.
PieKlan 2 years ago
I think sometimes people forget that Gilmour is not alone Pink Floyd, he is a part of it, and every part is as important as all the others. Rick was a great musician and his memory will live on for many many years to come. R.I.P
