The Bubble - Reflections of the ending

After listening to this, I've gained a new perspective on this movie and why Ashraf did what he did in the end.

I don't think it was even revenge. Jihad would've gladly killed as many people as he could have. But Ashraf, I think, understood better; he had friends, he had Noam, there were things he loved about Tel Aviv.

In the end, he kills only himself and Noam, who he didn't intend to kill. Maybe, by choosing to take the bomb, he meant to save lives.

Ashraf could have married the cousin, went to London, then end the marriage. Jihad would be happy because Ashraf would be farther away from Noam & I'm assuming that by marrying the cousin, some family & local political ties would have been strengthened. Ashraf would have been free to be with Noam. A year of a fake marriage would have been preferable to suicide, no? Anyway, I love the director & writer. Their "Walk on Water" was terrific.

If Jihad hadn't sent his terrorist friends into Israel to plant a bomb by Bialik Cafe, the Israeli Soldiers would not have been sent in and accidentally killed Ashraf's sister. This mirrors the situation in reality. Hamas, Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups bring this pain and suffering upon themselves. "When the Arabs love their children more than they hate the Jews, there will be peace in the Middle East."

wow Eden i couldn't expect this movie has such great influence on someone's feeling. i think that's a positive sign to promote peace.

of course there are good and bad Arabs we just take what's good for us. racism not only in M.E but all over the world, that is sad. i thought ethnic difference is an opportunity for people to learn from each other but some others just turn it the other way around; White against Black, Arab against Jews, Chinese against Japanese and the list go on and on...

This film made me think many things.

Not alone I saw it 2 times, I have seen it minimum as 10 since it discharges it.

The ethnic hate and the contrasts in that reality were very big. While in Israel they live in their Western bubble, in Palestine they wither for the poverty and the religion (in all sides it happens)

The despair that has Ashraf with respect to that its life cannot change, was the moment but sad of the history.

The end was so.....deep.

He killed himself but you don't feel hate for him. And the words that was said in the end just make you think " all those wars are so useless! peace is much better than this!"

Pretty sure he went to Ashraf out of concern for his lover. His body language is pretty open, not shut down, and it suggests to me he's acting on emotion/concern and not rational thought. It's a sad ending, but powerful.

So many of us can relate ourselves to this story. I'm very glad Eytan Fox made this film; it gives some of us a way to loose the tears from their trap.

I believe he killed himself, it's war striping a person of them self. He wasnt free to be him self or free to be with the man he loved. As a black gay man in the US I live the war of never being sure if people are accepting, criticizing or hating me for who I am (a black man, a gay man, a black gay man or just me A MAN) Am I free? I try to think, so I dont feel the despair he did. He was a MAN wither Black, White, Jew, Palestinian or Gentile. That war took from the world again.

Now, I have a question. Why do you think Noam runs to Ashraf when he realizes he has a bomb? Do you think he wanted to stop him or join him?

(The song that Noam is listening to on his iPod at the beginning ends up being a premonition "This is the first day of my life. I'm glad I didn't die before I met you...")

That´s a very good question. I think, Noams first intention was to stop Ashraf. But at the same time he accepted  to die with him, because the worst thing that could happen to him was, to see Ashraf bombing himself while he keeps alife.

The song "First day of my life" Is also on my MP3 Player! :-) There are also moving words in the song that is played on the rave : "Day Out Close To You" : "I want to be close to you ... I want to lie next to you... I want to die next to you ... I want to ..."
