  • I'd seen some of your other videos and was wondering why you preferred Special 20 cover plates on a Marine Band. Thanks for the explanation!

  • Great video, thanks. I am a subscriber now, look forward to checking out your exisiting videos and upcoming ones as well. Darren

  • Does anyone else find that G's (2 Draw) on a D harp sounds absoloutly horrible. The only way to discribe it is that the harmonica sounds like its in pain, or struggling. I spent 30 pounds on a harmonica, how can I expect it to sound like this?!

  • Hey Jason

What do you think of the Marine Band Crossovers? I just got me one and I totally LOVE it. But I was wondering what a pro like you thought about them. I also hear great things about Seydel 1847 and you talk really well about the Suzuki Firebreath.

So I hope I get an answer from you.

Kind regards from a fan from Belgium.

(Oh yeah btw, I love you man - you're truly inspiring, I wanna play like you when I grow better)

  • I absolutely love you man. My favourite thing that you've done is the solo at the end of The One Least in Love. Awesome.

I play Lee Oskers through a Blues Blaster mic and and Fender Blues Deluxe amp.

  • dang man you are stocked!!!

  • ripper

Looking forward to finally seeing you soon @ Humphreys Backstage Live on Shelter Island in San Diego.

    blow man

  • great video thank you so much

  • My first harp is a hohner hot metal key of G. Im still learning, I bought both of them for $20, and got ballsy with one. I tried adjusting the reeds and broke one. 5 draw, the thing hasnt sounded right since, so I decided to leave the second one alone

  • My first Harmonica was a..Hohner Cross Harp, followed by a Hohner"Meisterklasse"...I love playin on Meisterklasse Harps...

  • I have to make a comment about Suzuki Harpmasters. I recently picked up a bunch of Harpmasters from a guy who was closing up his store. Having never played the Harpmaster I was a little leary but the price was so good that I took a chance. I got 11 harps for $185 -about $17 each. The Harpmasters are great harps. In fact I have a Bb Suzuki Promaster that had gone bad on me. No worries, I took the reed plates off the Harpmaster and they fit perfectly. Now I have a brand new Promaster too.

  • Suzuki makes good stuff! Thanks.

    J

  • Great deal. I still love me a HarpMaster. I'm waiting on my first B-Radical.

Right at the moment my Weapon of Choice is surprisingly the SEYDEL Blues Session. Weird eh? LOVE the Reeds and Reedplates. Comb is alright. FREAKIN' HATE the COVERPLATES!!!! I just wrote seydel about them. Hopefully they'll make another CP design available. TRY THIS if you are someone who tried and HATED the Blues Session 'cause of the CPs. Take the CPs off a LEE OSKAR and put THOSE badboys on the Seydel & lemme know!

  • lovin the eyebrow action :P (and the playing of course)

  • 7:30 is amazing. Have heard it in advanced bending lesson.

  • I started out buying a few marine bands and found that after my first real gig with them, the comb had swolen out on some of the more used ones (D, and A) so much so that it was cutting my lips..

i ended up buying 4 hohner meisterklausse harps, which i am very pleased with, but i was just wondering why you seem to mostly use wood combs? mine dont last beyond 1 or 2 gigs before i find them unplayable. any suggestions?

  • The combs are sealed...Check David Paynes "How to seal a wood comb" video.

    Thanks!

    J

  • Thanks, I'll do just that.

  • I have the same problem.

  • my marine bands do that too, i won't even play my marine bands any more because they're so uncomfortable

  • fantastic

  • Mr. Ricci,

What would you say are the best harps to use for overblowing if you do not intend to customize them and keep them stock?

  • Suzuki Fire Breath!

  • No offense but u remind me of a vampire...

  • hi jason, your playing amazes me everytime i watch you.

as i have just started playing sorry learning the harmonica i have just bought a hohner special 20.

but i really like the sound of your hohner golden melody.

i wondered if possible if you can recommend me to buying one,or as a beginner do you suggest something diffrent.

    many thanks andy.

  • A great first harp for the money is a Suzuki Harp master, and the Suzuki Fire Breath (For professional level)

  • Harpmaster is the shiznit. I got a Fire Breath but wasn't so impressed with the coverplates. The Reeds are high quality though, so as you had suggested in a video, I put the Reed Plates inside of a Harpmaster body, and like i think in your famous words "damn good harp" . You couldn't have been more right. But the harpmasters with a little gapping are my favorites. peace,

    -$DR$

  • Jason, there is a fantastic video on youtube of you playing Amazing Grace. And I'm pretty sure that you start that video on a low D. Is it the same low D that you said was your first custom harp?

  • Yes! I still have it and use it. It's almost six years old.

  • great vid, man....hey all my harps are meisterklasse. what don't you like about them, jason? i like the solid, heavy feel to them for one...

  • WOW!!!! you are waaaaaaay beyond amazing!!! Just sat mesmerized twice through 8:11 glorious mintues of Hurt Myself Solo. What a soulful gift! Bravo!

  • Did you mention these fellas' prices? I imagine they must be expensive...

  • Let me ask you two dumb questions!

    1) How much playable harmonicas do you have right now?

    2) How much harmonicas do you have with you at the stage ussually?

  • Jason...

Why did you give up on Golden Mels? I love 'em - just about to give a new one in Bb the embossing, arcing, gapping treatment. And today got a new tool to cut open the cover plates a bit...

  • hEY Jason:it was intresting to see the jaw droping expresions from the younger crowd

{very similar 2 the way I respond 2 yur playing}I play with the leed guitar on the note. AThing I notice Mark Hummel pointed out

there has been a "dislike'" due 2 sonny boy

and early harp players when they broke on threw. Fear -evil

KAYAKS WENT 2 SMALL BOATS/AND BLEW THE SPORT BEYOUND

    THIS IS THE CRUX

    CHROMS DONT HAVE THAT EXPRESSION

  • Jason, do you use intonated tuning or equal temperament (or something in between)?

Also, are you thinking about doing a video on how to walk on your hands? That would be great. I have been trying for years, but can't quite get the hang of it.

  • I did Oskars, then the Suzuki Bluesmasters, now I play the Suzuki Promasters. They are great harps!!!! I don't have that kind of customizing time, but love the sound!!

  • anyone ever try teh susuki Pure Harp

    with rose wood covers

nice very nice 4 box harps

    but short fat reeds

  • They are nice along with the fire Breath but your DEAD ON with the short fat reeds! That is the exact and only problem with those harps.

  • So, is there a certain one that you tend to 'put in your pocket' more then any other harp? Not to get personal...

  • Joe Spiers are my faves...but I would never put any harp in my pocket without a case unless I didn't plan on playing it again..

    J

  • Thanks for the tip... makes sense.

  • Damn man you rock! Your album Rocket #9 is really a showcase of your amazing talent and shows the influences that you have taken in and translated to your style, brilliant! Rock On doc dc

  • hi jason just really wanted some advice.

i have a special 20 as i have just started to learn the harmonica, which i started a couple of weeks ago and only wanted to throw it out of the window only a handful of times.

i really like the sound of the hohner golden melody would this be a good buy for me or should i think about buying something else for a new starter.

    many thanks andy.

    from the uk.

  • Both of those are great starter harps. But play what you like! If the G.M. is better to you than it IS better.

    J

  • Damn, I just ordered some Joe Spiers harps.

I hope he hasn't cut and run with my money............
