hey guys if you like this check out dallas green as well he is the singer of alexisonfire and he had a bunch of solo work out and his voice its fucking god... let me know if you liked this comments and you agree with me thanks
There is hope in Christ. We are all sinful and all live in a sinful world. But Christ came to bear your sins and burdens on the cross. Turn to Christ. "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, because He cares about you." - 1 Peter 5:6-7 "Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28
he has supported them for many years now. I dont know if he still does this, but when you would buy his solo album he used to donate a certain percentage of it to twloha
thrice donated like 10% of their sales to charities like invisible children... im not sure if they are continuing that but id assume so. good guys all around :)
Actually, you are both right. It's based off of the book. But the entire reason he put it into his music was about himself struggling to be a good person everyday.
The chorus of the song, "Wake me when its springtime in heaven, and I'm strong enough to walk in that place" is is alluding to The Great Divorce, written by C.S. Lewis. In the story, ghosts are taken from hell to heaven and given a chance to repent and come to God. When they first get there they are unable to walk on the ground because its too hard. After they have been there for a while, however, they become strong enough and physical enough to stay there.
By the way, The Great Divore is an amazing book. I think everyone should read it. C.S. Lewis was one of the greatest minds of the twentieth century. He didn't just write the Chronicles of Narnia. The Out of the Silent Planet trilogy is also amazing.
you are absolutely correct. C.S. Lewis is definitely one of the greater minds in the 20th century. it's good to see that there authors that have not yet been forgotten. thanks to the likes of you, great literature is allowed to flourish. keep reading lolol.
let's not forget that Dustin Kensrue is also freakin' amazing. :]
so who can tell me what this song means? i love it and can play it... but have yet to uncover its actual meaning... esp the bible quote "the spirit is within, but the flesh is weak"
well in Christian terms, the spirit is the desire of our souls to do whats right, and the flesh represents the immediate physical gratification, most commonly referred to as sexual temptation and lust.
The song itself, i feel as if Dustin is singing about his reflection on his time on Earth, and seeing that its so hard to live with temptations and continual sinful behavior, he is singing about death and life after death.
the song is about hope that dustin finds in heaven, not on earth.
Dustin Kensrue has a wonderful voice and I am a big fan of his solo music and I have been a long time fan of Thrice for a few years now and they just keep getting better and better.
Btw, bible quotes only sound cool when dustin sings them otherwise they sound like a load of crap.
how did people get into a comparison of brand new and thrice or dustin and jesse or all that jazz? i dont see why people compare at all. whats the point. "blah blah blah, this person is better than that..." who cares if someone else is better or not. doesnt change how good you think dustin is or isnt.
i honestly dont know y but dustin is really the ONLY person in this genre i can listen to because it just has this thrice feel too it that alot of people dont really see. anyone who is/was skeptical on his record. buy it! there is NOTHING wrong with it.
Dustin and Jesse are so different I agree with the guy next to me stop trying to compare them. Some of the stuff Im reading here, you realise is all opinion. Im a huge fan of both Thrice and Brand New and I have to say you guys are making too much controversy out of good music. Music is one of the last things that really brings people together, dont ruin it.
In terms of lyrical complexity and just plain having fun with the words, Lacey wins. That being said, Dustin also writes incredible lyrics and is MUCH better than Jesse in an acoustic setting. I've seen Brand New twice now live and until you hear a song like You Won't Know or Degausser live you can't appreciate what Jesse gives on stage. I don't think you can stand Dustin and Jesse side by side and say that one is better than the other.
well dustin has been doing music all his life really and hs created so many songs with soo many hidden meanings even in his solo album and even more as the lead singer in thrice most songs like paper tigers image of the invisibal red sky like moths to flames i can keep going i belive dustin is the elvis presly of our generation
Dustin is incredibly talented but I don't agree with you on that one. I think Jesse Lacey is much more talented. Just listen to Deja Entendu or The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. Hell, just listen to Your Favorite Weapon. The lyrics, metaphors and the imagery is much more complex and better done than Dustin's.
You are talking to someone who owns all 3 Brand New albums, so I don't need to do any homework. Jesse is a very talented lyricist. But Jesse's lyrics never surpass the scope of love a relationships. In the Devil and God he became obsessed with death, which broadened.
But Dustin's lyrics are political, spiritual, and deal with human innocence which is much grander than writing about relationships. Love is played out, especially in this scene. Dustin is also a more talented vocalist, and donates a large portion of his album sales to charities. Sorry, I love Jesse, but he's no Dustin.
But Dustin writes about politics, social situations, spirituality, and human innocence with is much grander than love. That theme is played out, especially in this scene. Plus, Dustin is more talented vocally.
prolly my all time favorite song. theres just something about it. its so.. mellow but has a touch that makes you listen.. and understand. its just amazing. i love this guy
(TT_TT) i really like this song. the lyrics are so nice. i really quite like it. it's sad but at the same time i like it for being what it is. thanks for putting it up. (^_^ )

"spirit is willing....flesh is weak"
i guess every song can be interpreted in your own specific way...
but i think its about just a desire to be away from sin and not drug down by it...
i think its about trying to understand what it means to live in the freedom in Christ that we will only experience in ful in heaven...
its the same desire paul expressed to just be out of this world and in our true home...
rar3gdrg 3 years ago
I really think your reflexions are right rar3gdrg! ''Spirit is willing, flesh is weak'' it's actually one of Jesus' quotes...
