  • Davey used to be my dad's favorite driver before he liked Jeff Gordon.I became a fan in 2001,But have gone back and watched old races with Davey. If he was alive now,he would have several championships and maybe more than 50 wins

  • i really feel bad for his kids i feel like crying because look at his kids face there are so inocent there dad was a great man and a great drive rest in peace davey allison and alan kulwicki

  • never knew too much about davey allison just started watching nascar a couple of years back but this guy was destined to be a champion and I think he would get the job done.I dunno if he woulda gotten the ton of pressure like dale jr has now.to be a sprint/winston cup champion..but what could have been if davey lived now

  • Davey was the first ever driver I liked, I started watching Nascar just to see the wrecks, but then I seen this Black, White, and Gold number 28 that made me cheer for my first driver. After the accident, it was hard to watch racing, knowing that Davey wouldn't be there and that he missed the chance to win the championship. I still watch racing to this day, and when they give the command to start their engines, I always think of how different it would be if he was still here. I miss him.

  • never liked Davey that much, a great driver though and was popular almost as much as Dale Jr., taught me what death was, which that person is gone and will never return. But they are here in spirit.

  • @vidEvWill You learn to appreciate them don't you? And not to start anything, but how could you not like Davey?! The guy was a nice guy =)

  • @AngryGundamGamer C'mon man, was a kid then, I respect the man now and I know he was definitely a nice person. I was more of a Chevy person when I was a kid, though and Davey drove a Ford...thats where the dislike came in, not that he was a bad guy!

  • @vidEvWill I was just wondering is all so no big and no judging here =). I'm in the same boat with Toyota. I like Kyle Busch (Even if he is an ass sometimes) but I don't like Toyota because I am a Chevy guy too, but again it was more about the person than the make of car. But I just want Toyota out of NASCAR... Keep it in 'Merica LOL!

  • NASCAR fans are the most appreciative fans in all sports even though now NASCAR cares more about money rather than fans we still stick by.

  • I remember watching this live.......I had tears in my eyes. Davey was going to be a great champion of this sport, and was taken from us way too early.

  • I was just takin back 2 yesterday cryin all the way!! Only in the South!!!! Thank God!!

  • I remember the year or two leading up to Davey's death,it was an emotional roller coaster. The death of his brother and grandpa, horrific accidents in the 28...and Davey always stayed positive. He won races with broken ribs, black eyes, and enough grief to make a person want to just stay home. When he passed away I stopped watching NASCAR for a few years,it just wasnt the same.Even today,I have yet to find a driver I can call my favorite.Thats okay, some things cant be replaced. Thanks Davey.GOD BLESS

  • I watch this video often. Oh how I wish ol Donnie would have came out of turn 4 after the slow lap and floored it for a speed lap. My best guess is the crowd would have roared with 28 havoline.

  • Who drove that car when they replaced Davey Allison? Who won that race?

  • @Grah1275 Robbie Gordon drove the car in that race and promptly crashed it (imagine that). Dale Earnhardt won the race (imagine that).

  • the woman at the 6:27 mark makes me sick. Waitng for the camera to find her for her 15 seconds of glory.

  • NASCAR will never truly understand what they lost when Davey passed. No way on earth Dale would have been a 7 time champ, no way Jeff would have been a 4 time champ. They guy was THAT good, a true natural and had goodness in his heart to go along with all that talent. Seriously, one of the best drivers I have ever seen take the wheel. The things he could do in a race car was beyond my abillity to put into words. God bless the Allison family.

  • I think you're right. I'm a diehard Jeff Gordon fan, but before that I loved Davey. NASCAR lost a future champion who would certainly have given Dale and Jeff a run for their money every year.

  • davey...we love you

time marches on but you will never be forgotten

i was at pocono...we waited so patiently for the fog to go away

and the first car to come out on the track was the yates #28

the year was 1992...a year later in 1993 my family helped me go back to pocono and say a proper goodbye

    as long as you remember

    we'll keep the fires burning

    thank you robert yates racing

i will be at pocono next weekend

what keeps the fires a burning i ...is the the fans..we love you davey#28

  • Another of the sad things about Davey Allison dying when he did was that it was right before NAScAR took off in the mid 90s, after the first Brickyard 400. All the fans who came later don't know how big DA was. He was every bit as big as Earnhardt, and maybe bigger. He and Elliot were the big Ford guys, when that still meant something. Now it seems he's hardly remembered except for us old timers.

  • @RRaquello That is so true. People now never got to know how great Davey was. 1993 was so hard. We lost Alan, and when our hearts were still broken over that, we lost Davey...fans who came in later don't understand the pain losing these guys. May they rest in peace.

  • @Orangetree547 Sorry,hit the thumbs down button by mistake.I agree 100%.

  • Awesome...I can barely see the screen through the tears and was not even watching racing then, but I know the story

  • @funsun10 i was i HUGE davey allison fan . the day i herd the news i balled like a baby. watching the video has me chocked up even now today.

i have a computer room which still to this day has my davey allison wall light and his standup poster in it. R.I.P #28

  • Davey was a great competitor and his death sudden death was very hard to take. I've never had a favorite driver since.

  • This was a very wild race. Jimmy Horton flipped in the first turn over the fence, Stanley Smith was seriously injured in the same wreck. Then Neil Bonnett just about got into the grand stand when his car tore down the catch fence on the front stretch. Then a very close finish with Dale Earnhardt beating Ernie Irvan. It was a day of lows and highs. I am really glad I was there. I also was lucky enough to see Dale Earnhadts last win there in 2000. Talladega is a special place.

  • NASCAR had a lot more heart back then. If this happened today, they'd just do a small little schtick on FOX and forget. I wasn't a fan at the time of Davey's death, but its sad that such a guy couldn't show his true potential.

  • sorry to screw with your memory man but that wasnt Davey. That Sears Point wreck was in 1995 and it was Dale Jarrett in the car.

The video of that wreck used to be on youtube but i cant find it now

  • Davey Allison Tribute

  • Great guy met him and Red Farmer on several occasion a true gentleman.I have no love for Liz and her Joe diffy affair,Davey deserved better.

  • @mrnighthawg Do tell, I had no idea.

  • I was at this race in 1993. It was unreal being there. Thousands of fans were crying when Donnie drove his car around the track.

  • @gsxrg46 wow how dramatic it was. made me cry watching it on tv recording 10 years later

  • @gsxrg46 say how hot was it there?? looked very hot

  • @kuhndog52 It was really hot. If you notice in the videos all the race fans are fanning them selves with this diehard battery cutouts they handed out to everyone. One dude was cracking me up and dipping his towel in a cooler and then throwing it to different people in the crowd and letting them wipe their face and then repeating the whole process. Talladega is something else!

  • @gsxrg46 yeah ive gone there in the spring ever since '06

  • @gsxrg46

there is no place on earth like dega

it was so very hot at pocono that year i thought i was home in sweet home alabama

  • davey allison was my favorite. rip

  • I remember what I was doing the minute I heard he died.I cried like I had lost a brother.Davey was the MAN!!!

  • I was also 10 when he died... but I do remember a lot of his key wins. It's especially sadder now that Robert Yates Racing doesn't exist anymore...

  • I still miss you Davey. And now I miss the 28car too.God bless you And your family.. We all love and miss you.!

  • DAMN! This brings back emotions like non other. I was only 10 when he died but he was THE MAN! I haven't seen this in probarly 15 years, THANKS FOR POSTING THIS, LOVE IT! What a hell of a race this turned out to be

  • we love you davey!!!

have fun all you race fans in TALLEDAGA!!!

  • From what it looks like, it looked like Donnie was crying in the car. God, Davey was one of a kind driver. None of these new drivers cant have the charisma that Davey had. R.I.P. Davey Allison (1961-1993)

  • Davey and Alan in the same year...

it was a sad year in Cup :(

  • growing up in Hueytown this was really hard on me. I met Davey on a few occasions at a local Hueytown restraunt, he was truly a great guy. I believe after his death was when Nascar started selling out. I have not been a Nascar fan since, and now Nascar has sold out so much that it is a shell of it's former self. Also I don't believe that Gordon would have won all those titles if Davey would have been there.

  • Davey seemed like the only guy who didn't have an ego and who appreciated winning. Thats why I liked him so much. He was the reason why I race today. NASCAR took a turn for the worse that year and was never the same to me. I'm 33 now and road race in a sportscar series. Davey is still a bad ass mo-fo.

  • Earnhardt said he probably wouldn't have become a seven time champion had Davey been around.

  • @bama3171 I 100% agree with you about Gordon vs Davey....that would have been an EPIC matchup that would have taken NASCAR to another level even earlier than it already was at that time. It's sad that we never got to see that.

  • @bama3171 Earnhardt even admitted he may not have won a 7th championship had Davey still been around. NASCAR started to really sell out when Brian France took over. NASCAR just got really popular and it looked like a sell out which it really wasn't until Brian France took over.

  • that day was very surreal, the davey tribute, neil tore down the fence, horton went over the wall, stanley smith suffered horrible head injuries, and many fans got sick from being in the July heat for that 2 or 3 hour red flag.

And all that, davey was still the star of that race

  • Manly tears were shed

  • 16 years ago today, we lost Davey. Rest in Peace and Godspeed to his family.

  • R.I.P

  • This is absolutely stunning; I have this on Beta tape somewhere. Reverand Marchman is a true gentleman and man of God.

Uncle Donnie driving the 28 gives me chills every time.

  • I think we used to have this recorded on a VHS tape. Or something else that had to do with Davey Allison. My dad would always tell me, "Don't tape over that! It's got Davey Allison on it!" I'm not sure if we still have it, though.

One of my cousin's dad's grew up with Davey. It's sad what happened to him...

  • This still makes me as saddened as the ist time I saw this after Davey's passing....God Bless Davey Allison....

  • The song is "The Fans" by Alabama; if this tribute doesn't give you chills, you had better check your pulse. Incredible stuff

  • what song is this?

  • Just amazing, got to love Youtube, I havent seen this since watching it live on tv. 16 years ago, really seems like yesterday

  • If Davey had Lived Dale Earnhardt would not have had 7 Championships.

  • And Jeff Gordon wouldn't have 4. Davey was an amazing talent, and he would have won multiple championships without a doubt. That 28 car was just amazing, easily the flagship Ford team of the early 90's. The Chevy fans had their "Man in Black", we had ours in Davey.

  • It truely hurt me when I heard of Davy's death. He reminded me so much of my brother that had died in a airplane plane crash in 1981.

  • I still love and miss you Davey!! Liz was messing around on him before he died. She can kiss my ass.

  • Do you realize how much disrespect you're showing to Davey by saying that? True or not it puts a bad black around the memory of a man you supposedly love. This was a Tribute to Davey and you just chose to throw dirt on that. I hope his family and fans forgive your insensitve ignorance.

  • RIP Hal Marchman. A true legend. 1:53.

  • DAVEY ALLISON....#28. what a talent. For a short career he was just amazing. My favorite driver forever.

  • Was and still is My favorite driver.. I cried as a kid when I heard the news. never forget ya

  • God bless the entire Allison family. There's no telling how far Davey might have gone. He was and remains my favorite NASCAR driver. Dedicated to excellence. With all my respect. Godspeed Davey!

  • God he was one of the best that will ever live. We lost a true gentleman on that sad day. God bless you Davey, miss you man.

  • oh that made me cry. I don't remember him it was 3 years before I watched NASCAR. I was only 6. I do know all about him though may he RIP. This was a beautiful tribute.

The saddest part is probably that Robbie and Krista will never remember him. If you look at recent pictures of a teenage Robbie he looks almost exactly like Davey.

  • im related to this guy my last name is allison.i found him in my family tree

  • In my opinion, it's like finding out your related to a king...

  • you should be flattered.. Im related to flanders fields (John Mcrae)

  • good man perry wish i was there

  • I attended the funeral and it was one of the saddest days of my life..i still try to be half the man Davey was...NEVER FORGOTTEN....TEXACO HAVOLINE FORD///// I'M WIDE OPEN!!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this,, It has been 15 years today , hard to believe its been that long, He will always be missed ... Thanks again ...

  • gees that was the wrong car. he drove tha havoline 28. Kyle Petty drove the mellow yellow car.

  • This guy was my favorite NASCAR Driver. He was the man in that Mellow Yellow 28

  • ive been looking for this for a long time thank you so much for posting this davey you were one of the greats we miss you

  • Just thought I would utube Davey Allison and see what comes up. Thank you for this great tribute. I remember watching this live on TV 15yrs ago, how I cried like a baby, I just did it all over again. It's hard for me to watch anything on DA. NASCAR has never been the same since his death and it never will be for me. Davey just had that certain something that few people have in life. He had it all!

    RIP Dear Davey!

  • Travis has been doing awesome in the 28, it suck that nobody want to sponser the car. I made a Retro Havoline car for the 28 in the new NASCAR 09 paint shop cant wait to drive it

  • What,This back Music?.

  • THANK YOU for posting this. I attended Davey's last race - the inaugural race at New Hampshire. I remember watching this on CBS two weeks later and it was probably the most emotionally-charged moment of NASCAR coverage I had ever seen. Between the in-car shots of Donnie Allison fighting tears, and Liz's poem, and "The Fan" by Alabama, it was very memorable and I'm thankful it's been posted here. Davey was a superstar driver.

  • I miss Davey. Always had and always will.

  • this video:

    +100

    very emotional.

  • Great video tribute!! As someone said earlier, I still look at 28 as "Davey's ride".

RIP, Davey. See you later, old friend.

  • GREAT TO SEE THE 28 CAR BACK WITH YATES

  • I was there that day too and watching this made me cry like a baby just like I did back then. Just like it happened yesterday. THANK YOU for sharing this video. Davey was the best and has a special place in my heart.

  • Proud to say I was at talladega that hot summer day! Davey was the greatest of that time! I miss him so much, its just not NASCAR without Him and Dale!

  • It takes certain things to make me cry. They are very few and far between, but, this tribute is one of them.

  • Davey Allison has my hero and I am so happy the 28 is back at Daytona. I am pulling for Travis. I stayed with Yates all these years, but we all know it was Davey that started the whole thing. We love u Davey and miss u.

  • RIP Davey

  • I made this into a music video with Everything's Magic by Angels & Airwaves but I'm not going to post it because I forgot to tape it.

  • God this is a great tribute. Brings a tear to my eye. Miss"n ya Davey and that t-bird looks like a million bucks.

  • That was an extremely hot day in Talladega. People were buying bags of ice and hugging them in their seats.

  • i love this video it was a bad year with alan and davey passing a way

  • Very Sad!!!

  • Thanks for posting this as my ex destroyed my original recording of this. Davey's death was a life changing experience and it's still hard to watch this all these years later. The sport would be a classier place if Davey were still here. True heroes are few & far but Davey was one of mine....and still is. His pictures and memorbilia still reside on my walls....and my kids fight over who should get them after me!

  • i am daveys second cousin. bobby has never been the same, and i was there for his poccono crash, and couldnt believe it when his helicopter crash. i miss him so much

  • Its sad seeing how we lost such a class act driver. Davey always treated everyone with respect. Then you look at a driver like Tony Stewert who not even in the same league.

  • I will always believe that if Davey were still with us, neither Earnhardt Sr nor Jeff Gordon would have near as many Winston Cup Championships as they do. Davey was THAT good.

  • Jeff yes, dale i dont know, this time in 93, dale was well on his way to cup #6. Would jeff have 4? no i doubt it. Davey would have a few by now

  • Thats why the race car drivers should drive cars and let the pilots handle the aircraft. Aviation is very unforgiving to those who over estimate their abilities in an aircraft and that is what happened to Davey.

  • actually that isn't what happened. His new helicopter malfunctioned causing the wreck. Do some research partner. :)

  • I am a pilot racing a latemodel was a lot harder!

  • NASCAR sucks now that these three are gone and because of the new drivers. NASCAR now is called ASSCAR

  • we miss Davey, Alan and Dale. We wish you were here. NASCAR hasn't been the same without y'all. We'll meet you soon

  • Davey Allison, Alan Kulwicki, and Dale Earnhardt Sr. we need you here today NASCAR has missed you and wish you were back u gave me a reason to watch and get into NASCAR

  • great

  • Thank you SOOO much for posting this. I was 7 years old when Davey died, he was my biggest hero. I cried for days afterwards, and to this day I look at the Havoline car as "Davey's car". I'm 21 years old now, and to this day I have a picture of Davey on my wall above my bed. Nothing in NASCAR would be the same if we hadn't lost Davey, hard to believe its been over 14 years now...

  • We miss you Davey.

    Wish you were still here.
