  • good list. the dead deserves it, they led the pack for 30 solid years and acheived sucess w/o top tens or selling out. they proved all you need is love!

  • not sure if calling jefferson airplane better than The Doors or just more hippie...

  • The first Hippies were Flower Children. Their pow-wow was 1967's Monterey Pop Festival. The Heads' climax was Woodstock. The music was labled Psychedelic Rock by the press. To see the difference between Flower Children and Heads, watch videos of these events. I much prefer the atmosphere of Monterey Pop. It featured the US debuts of The Who and Jimi Hendrix, plus little-known Big Brother, featuring Janis Joplin.

Any list of 1967-era rock has to include Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".

  • Well I love all the bands you listed so I have no problem. Certainly wouldn't put The Dead at the No. 1 spot though. As a matter of fact, as "hippie" as they were, they still wouldn't make my Top 10. One of my all time favorite hippie bands is MOBY GRAPE. So good, and so underrated. You NEED to get their first album.

  • I'd put in the Mama's and Papa's and leave out the greatful dead..Pretty good list

  • @purestock22 Are you fucking serious? Why not the stupid "Loving Spoonful"? They suck ass too.

  • @arklat LOL I dunno I guess i feel the same about the Dead.. Actually alot of these bands I wouldn't really call hippie bands.. how bout Head bands.

  • WHERE IS THE BEATLES???????

  • for all those whining about certain bands not being here read the desc. these are the UPLOADER'S favorite bands. so stfu, go light a joint, drop a tab, and just enjoy the groovy tunes. ;)

  • you suck

  • Pink Floyd is the number one hippy band. Why are they not on here???

  • @greeneyedjim2007 Definitely not number one but I know what you mean

  • Although Pink Floyd is not on this list, I still love you, because almost all of my favorite bands are on this list.. DEADHEADS YEAH!

*anyone notice the popularity bar looks like a lit up joint?

  • The doors certainly had "hippie" beliefs. The name "The Doors" is actually from a book about LSD called the doors of perception. Plus the whole band smoked grass, and Jim drank and dropped acid constantly.

  • I think The Doors qualify as Stoner music. There is a difference between Hippie music and Stoner music. On another note, Hippies have to be American.

  • video muy bueno!!!

  • THE DOORS ARE THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME IN MY OPINION, but they werent hippies by any means.

  • @whenthemusicsover1 i don't know dude, i'd definitely consider their music as hippie music, maybe just my opinion

  • @whenthemusicsover1 yeaahhhh its the truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue!!!!!

  • the dorrs rule

  • @zeromoney28 yes!!!

  • floyd?

  • touch of gray is a great song but i just don't think its the song that truly represents the grateful dead

  • hippies ? the doors ?...

  • The Doors were psychedelic and used psychedelic drugs, but they weren't what you'd call a hippie band. Too dark.

And yeah, you're missing 60's Pink Floyd. Syd Barrett was like the Lewis Carroll of music.

  • What about The Beatles

  • where are the beatles

  • This thing plays like a late night Time Life Music infomercial....

  • @daveandy1

My dad watches those things...and sings along.

  • dude, most of these aren't hippie bands! the doors? the byrds, really?

  • What, no Moby Grape??

  • Comment removed

  • @garglefunnypantz the doors are not hippies at all. jim morrison resented hippies and their movement. he insulted them plenty of times.

  • No beatles, brother?

  • Moody Blues are one of my most favorite bands and I know they're not hippies! Oh and why don't you have the Beatles on here!!!

  • OK, Yes, no Beatles? But wtf dude? You pick the Grateful Dead as your #1 Band and you play Touch of Grey? That's just not right!

  • What about The Beatles? Weren't they one of the most important bands of the 1960's?

  • DUde really no BEATLES they starte ll this really man no pink floyd zeppelin simon and garfunkel dude your a dillhole

  • this is what stoners should listen to today, not stupid techno and dupsteb

  • @dopenope709 As a user of cannabis and psychedelic drugs, I agree. This is where it's at.

  • and why no beatles?

    come on man!

  • one of the byrds has a striking resemblence to lennon

  • @javichoi hendriix is

  • I think by hippie bands he means psychedelic.

  • @javichoi Cream and Hendrix are hippies.

  • @TheBestNarrator Pink Floyd are not Hippies man.

  • morgen, fifty foot hose, ace of cups, elephant's memory... those were hippie bands, thanks

  • @TheBestNarrator I think Pink floyd aren't typpical hippies. Especially not in their way of thinking

  • OY OY OY first one must define what the fuck is a " hippie band " even then can one even catalog what is what without missing lots of bands that should be on the list of so called " hippie bands ' like Quicksilver, Love or dam it THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION Grateful Dead heck never liked them they were / are boring boring boring grateful dead always put me to sleep offer not good in sector R or D results may vary sorry only one tub per family yours truly

  • I suppose there is no The Beatles cuz is like listing your favourite drink as water

  • procol harem should be no.1

  • the jefforson airplane should be number one

  • @cfazekas0441 ......I'm sorry but Grateful Dead is obviously number one.

  • @DylanMan6 Amen fellow Dylan

  • @DylanMan6 if the greatfull dead are zo good show me a few good songs of theres to proov it

  • i fuckin want those glasses that the guy in the birds is whereing

  • what about the beatles????

  • @thecaromissable too comercial for a hippie band, it was more a teen girly band :)

  • hmmm 0 and 2 so far..

  • Hippie Bands, really ?

  • ozric tentacles

    no 1

    enough said

  • well at least you got #1 right. other then that, i dont agree with this list at all. but you have the right to your opinion

  • What about LOVE from LA....the best band of them all....

  • What about

    'Three Dog Night"

    "Led Zeppelin"

    "Donovan"

  • @mgeorgerost Three Dog Night is not very hippie. not to mension every single song is over played.

  • Robin Trower did not play on "A whiter shade of pale". Ray Royer (second from right) left shortly after the recording and Trower joined.

  • a mon avis ii manque juste un titre des mama's and papa's sinon la liste pourrait correspondre avec la mienne si j'en faisais une

  • Wow guys, fuckin chill. Let's all enjoy the music, man. GREAT LIST.

  • By the way, stop trying to act like the musical genius. Your a fucking 15 year old kid that thinks he knows about how music evolved. Mainstream isn't always bad. Now a days it is. Back in the 60's? I don't think so. Most people would want to go back to the 60's to hear bands like the Beatles, Grateful dead, The Doors, and later Pink Floyd. Nobody gives a shit if it's mainstream. Stop acting like fucking Tyler the Creator with this "Mainstream" shit.

  • STOP SAYING THE BEATLES WERE HIPPIES, FOR CHRIST SAKE!

  • this is so us.....

  • the doors only 6 ? wtf

  • I'm sorry but this list is really wrong. The doors should be ahead of all the other bands like Cream. Where are the Beatles? They basically started the hippie band thing. Led Zeppelin? Pink Floyd? Come on man. Horrible list.

  • @AfroGangsta10 The BEATLES, HIPPIES? All right, all right, I love them, but they were the symbol of consumism at that time (no offense). All they have started, is just that, the mass movement

  • @Beatlemaniaca9865 Haha I don't really care, but Communism? A lot of people just say that because of John Lennon. John Lennon was an atheist and to most people, atheist means communism. Well that's what they thought. Although John did have some Communistic lyrics, his work and daily life consisted of the peace movement. "All you need is love". If anyone was a symbol of communism it would be John. But also for peace and love haha.

  • @AfroGangsta10 No, CONSUMISM, not communism, I'm talking about the crap the society used to give you to feed yourself in that time and nowadays, I think you didn't understand it because of the letters xD

  • @Beatlemaniaca9865 Oh sorry ahhaha, I hear that a lot about John believing in communism hahaha. Sorry misunderstood. And I know, I actually have a friend that is an atheist. But that's what people thought back then because it was nearing or during the cold war.

  • @AfroGangsta10 And I'm and atheist and I don't like communism. If there's something we both agree about, I think, is that the point of view of that people was completly destroyed HAHA

  • they all look like porn stars from the porns of the 70 es! ha ha!

  • dude you forgot canned heat

  • where are the beatles?

  • The Beatles were NOT a hippie band, they were a pop band.

  • @drunkpunkism go listen to Revolver, Pepper and MMT then shut up

  • @reneperezz Who shot who in the what now?

  • @drunkpunkism Before you make assumptions like that, research it before you speak. They started the psychedelic movement. List to Sergeant Peppers Lonely hearts club band album. I'm sure you heard of Lucy in the sky with diamonds dumb ass.

  • @AfroGangsta10 The Beatles started the psychedlic movement? hahahahahaha, thats the funniest thing I'v ever heard.

  • @drunkpunkism i agree with you that's just ridicileous

  • @drunkpunkism Instead of replying with an childish comment like that why don't you back it up with facts. YES PSYCHEDELIC STARTED WITH THE BEATLES. Rubber soul, Sgt Pepper, and revolver. All started it. Prick.

  • Comment removed

  • @AfroGangsta10 You really are an idiot arent you, psychedelic music was YEARS before the Beatles, you dont know much about this band you seem to like so much, try doing abit of research. Beatles made it mainstream, they didnt start it at all. They started doing psychedelic in 1965, and other bands were doing it in the late 50's. So, your the dumbass, not me, now go shut the fuck up and stop insulting people with your faulse "facts" and do a bit of research you pathetic little cunt. Thank you,

  • @drunkpunkism You truly the biggest idiot on the planet aren't you. The sad thing is that I'm still right, yet you keep on insulting me about it, WHEN YOU STILL GIVE NO FACTS TO BACK IT UP. WHO STARTED IT? "Psychedelic music emerged in mid 1960's. The Beatles "I feel fine" from "Rubber soul" was one of them." Is that good enough for you shit brain? Your oblivious. Beatles were the first to do it. Get ready to look it up and feel like a dipshit fucking cunt.

  • @AfroGangsta10 Hey dude, guess what, I am right. Facts?

All The Beatles did was add elements to make it mainstream, and psychedelic music was originaly Folk music in 1964, with bands like Peanut Butter Conspiracy and H.P. Lovecraft, and then other bands like Jefferson Airplane and The Gratefull Dead came along, along with many other awesome bands who never made it mainstream, and then came The Beatles with 'Rubber Soul' in late '65, and just followed the new trend. One more thing, fuck you :)

  • @drunkpunkism ...Name us a single band that was doing it in "the late sixties?"....Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Chet Atkins?.....SORRY

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland I think you'll find who you mentioned were 50's, not 60's, "SORRY".

  • @drunkpunkism ...So you got me on a mistake dickwad. It was a typo. It's obvious I was ragging your comment about "psychedelia in the late 50's"....Going back to the original premise: NOW you can make an ass out of yourself by not being able to come up with any bands from the FIFTIES that were psychadelic. We're waiting asswipe. Dig deep.

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland You were obviously abused as a little a baby and thought writing and insulting people over the internet was an easy way to pretend to be a big man. Iv got better things to do than read childish insults like "asswipe" and insulting my nationality, because it proves your an igorant loser with no life who isnt even worth arguing with, considering your a total waste of oxygen. So go help the world be a better place by crawling away and dieing. Thank you.

  • @drunkpunkism ....Peter Paul & Mary? PAALEEEZE! Your slipping into folk music now. Muddy Waters, ummm blues. You're more drunk than I suspected. What a lightweight. Two pints of Bass ale and he's gone bonkers. Hey assfuck, STILL waiting for your lame examples of PSYCHEDELIC BANDS IN THE FIFTIES Between AfroGangsta10 and myself, we're gunna bitch slap you with our pimp hands and turn you into our best earner on street corner number 5. You bit off way more than you can chew. NOW, get out there.

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland Wow, I'm guessing you didnt do to well in English at school. And is everybody in Switzerland a homosexual? Because you seem happy up afrogangstas ass at the moment.

  • @drunkpunkism...I live in Wales...Howza bout I get on a plane and come have a pint with you? I'll give you some Swiss lessons you'll never forget. WHAP...WHAP...(My two introductory pimp hand bitch slaps)...Now go write the Youtube police. I'm sure that's next, punk ass

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland Heres some advice, when you attempt to insult someone, it usually helps if it actualy makes sence. Now I'm off to go hippie bashing, excuse me.

  • @drunkpunkism ...Sence? Who really failed English?....Instead of non-productive hippie bashing that gets you nothing but a beat down, I'd head to the dentist, Mr Ed...

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland They're always to busy crying about love and flowers to bother fighting back, its productive to me knowing there is one less liberal around trying to take away my fun. Catch ya later.

  • @drunkpunkism ....You mean "too busy", right? I thought so. BTW, been a REPUBLICAN that will cram his points of view down any party's throat all my life. That's how I roll. Now then, how about that pint, Malcolm? Suck my bangers and mash, limey fool. God bang the Queen in the ass!

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland Errm...yeah....ok, if you say so. Im going to go now, have fun wasting your time with childish insults that I used to say as a ten year old, that I'v got better things to do than reply to.

  • @drunkpunkism ....EPIC FAIL AGAIN....u r pwned as per usual, Sir Foamsalot...You aren't done replying to my crap yet. You're my little bitch and only I will tell you when you are done. Now, go back out to street corner 5 and make me some paper. Fucking mod in a leather jacket you are. Nobody's fooled. Say hi to Princess William.

  • @AfroGangsta10 ....I AGREE....Rubber Soul broke through the icy barrier. No album can compare for its significance. Others are better, but none can compare.

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland Thank you, Rubber soul not only brought psychedelic to the table, the Beatles broke away from the "early work" which is pop, and moved on to experimenting. Exactly like you said. Sgt Pepper and Revolver are better than RS, but RS has it's significance as number 1 most important.

  • @drunkpunkism ...I thought you said it was the "late 50's"...Which one is it, Princess?

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland I believe you were trying to talk to the other guy ahha.

  • @AfroGangsta10 ...Yep....The pussy got bitch slapped. I love it when youngsters act tough (Cyber AND real world)

  • @drunkpunkism ....Just ANOTHER drunken pub crawler from the UK meandering about and participating in meaningless riots in the streets. Go back to Bendovershire and grab your limey ankles for all your snow white mates. You're pathetic, you punk wannabe. God fuck the Queen! (and all the gay males in the blue blood family)

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland Haha, dont rage to hard mate, you might pull a strain, next time, try not to pretend you know anything about music and go shag some flowers

  • @drunkpunkism ...Still waiting

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland You think music suddenly just changed when the year hit 1960? Who you mentioned were just mainstream artists in the 50's and 60's, and you obviously think they were the only musicians who existed then. Adrian "Ade" Shaw, Lightfoot!, Peter, Paul And Mary, Bo Carter, Muddy Waters, The Animals and many more were major influences of pyschedelic music in early 60's, and influenced bands like Gratefull Dead, Jefferson Airplane etc. Beatles were NOT a hippie band. End of.

  • @drunkpunkism It's fine, don't listen to him, he still hasn't replied to me when I gave him straight facts haha. His argument "Beatles didn't start psychedelic, there were bands in the 50s that did it before" No bands from the 50s ever did that. There were a few writers of some sort with the idea. Yet Beatles after trying marijuana, decided to use that as an inspiration. "Beatles 'I feel fine' was the first song to emerge and popularize Psychedelia. Hence the word "EMERGE".

  • @drunkpunkis. Oh please, all the bands you just named were formed AFTER rubber soul. Grateful dead was formed in late 65, not to mention they also made it "mainstream" by your standards. PBC was formed 1966. Again you were wrong. H.P. Love craft..1967..wrong AGAIN. HAHA Now your just embarrassing yourself. hahaha

  • @AfroGangsta10 Errm, you may want to re-check those facts Afrogangsta cunt face, they were formed 1964, whilst the Beatles were still posing for under-age girls, because believe me, there is a whole room of people here who were around in the 60's laughing their lungs at you right now, because you clearly dont have a clue. P.S. Im 19, not 15,

  • @drunkpunkism Then your one IMMATURE 19 year old. "Afrogangsta cunt face"? Hhaha. Who was formed in 1964? Grateful dead? LOOK IT UP DUMBASS. "1965 in the San Francisco". And actually, I believe there are a large amount of people actually against you right now. Not me HAHA. You don't have anything else to say? I just proved you wrong. Keep trying to say those bands formed before RS. You'll just find out that your wrong. Now go crawl back into hole punk bitch.

  • @AfroGangsta10 Oh my god, I am actually starting to get quite bored of been right. Wikipedia: "Phil Lesh and Jerry Garcia were brought together by Gert Chiarito in 1964 to perform on The Midnight Special, her Saturday night radio program on KPFA, Berkeley." Done and dusted, Now get lost.

  • @drunkpunkism LOL BUT THEY DIDN'T FORM YET. Wikipedia: "Formed in 1965...san Francisco" I'm done with this. Your too arrogant to accept the fact that all the bands you named were formed before rubber soul. OH AND BTW. Their first psychedelic song was made in 1964(Beatles). It just adds insult to injury. Good bye prick.

  • @drunkpunkism ...Last time I checked, 1964 > 1959. Simple math...EPIC FAIL again Prince Twaticus. Did you finish school, or were you too busy telling the pervert teachers..."We don't need no education?" You put your foot in your mouth early on.....STILL waiting for examples that are legit...

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland You can't read either? I'm actually starting to feel sorry for you.

  • whats the big brother song?

  • @1293chazz piece of my heart

  • ok.. the beatles NEED to be number one. Their not even on this ?

  • WHERE ARE BEATLES????????????????!!! :D

  • hell yea the doors

  • MY FAVOURITES: 10)Jefferson Airplane 9)Grateful Dead 8)Mamas and the Papas 7)Jimi Hendrix and the Experience 6) The Doors 5)ELO 4)Pink Floyd 3) Janis Joplin and her bands 2) Beatles 1)Canned Heat!!!

Groovy Baby. I was born in '75 so was still able to grow up on some Classic Rock that rules even today.

    Peace and Love

  • the doors arent hippie

  • no floyd no beatles no van

  • and steffenwolf is hard rock and has only a few things to do with the 60's hippy movement

  • iron butterfly? the beatles in the late 60's? thirteenth floor elevators? quicksilver messenger service? the youngbloods? why so much mainstream?

  • beatles are number one, unagruable garglefunnypantz, this is a shit vid, bet u were negver a hippie!

  • @TechR3view I bet you've been a hippie, no?

  • the beatles are the #1 , they are the sympol of the hippies ,pink floyd and led zippelin should've been in the list ,plus The Byrds, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jefferson should not be here they are not that good

  • Steppenwolf , Credance Clearwater, Jimi Hendrix, & Traffic actually produced MOST of the great music from that period, followed closely by "Grand Funk"...

  • My Top Ten wouldn't include The Byrds, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors (Based on my 'being' there at the time & not being from Calf. )

I would have to add "Traffic", "Free", "The Band", "Grand Funk Railroad" & "CCR".

Joplin wasn't around long enuff & sung badly; The Byrds had 'one' song mainly; The Dead was & still is, the lifeless performing Bands of all-time (they hardly 'inspired' any other acts that followed) and Jefferson Airplane was a '2'-Hit-Wonder.

  • and led zeppellin?

  • Steppenwolf?????? ummm no not hardly

  • the beatles, and the mamas and the papas are not on this list

and janis japlin it seems the person who made this doesn't know what hippies are

they must think dressing in tie dye is what makes a hippie lol

stupid list. stupid maker of the list

  • The Doors & Velvet Underground

  • Of coarse Grateful Dead tops the list. They were the house band for Ken Kesey and the Merry Prankster's "acid tests". I would have included Pink Floyd and Quicksilver Messenger Service on my list, but there were so many great bands that it's difficult to pear the list down to a top 10.

  • Grateful dead seriously? NOT 1 OF THESE BANDS WOULD EXIST WITHOUT THE BEATLES. GRATEFUL DEAD FORMED in 65. Beatles formed in 1960. 64 is when Beatles 1st Psychedelic stuff started to come out.

IT'S A SHAME NOBODY TEACHES THIS KIND OF STUFF IN SCHOOLS AND THEY WONDER WHY BEIBER is running around singing while all other music slowly diminishes

  • @BloodShotNow WTF? PSHYCHEDELIC BEATLES IN 1964? THEY STARTED THAT IN LATE 65', WITH THEIR DISC RUBBER SOUL! WHAT...?

  • The Doors rip jim

  • Beatles should def be on here

  • You should have had the doors way closer to the top, but your list is awesome no doubt.

  • You should have had the doors way closer to the top, but your list is awesome no doubt.

  • solid list

  • Good selection, but Jim Morrison was not a hippie at all

  • @jandenotter1 i'ld say jim morrison was a hippy, not a peace a flowers hippy, but a radical hippy

  • ever heard of Bob Dylan?

he started ALOT of the hippie/peace movement.

and fuck the Byrds, all they did was cover Dylan songs.

  • <3<3<3The Doors<3<3<3

  • excellent choices. I spent a lot of time in the City, during 1967-1974, as a boy and young teenager, visiting the Haight in early 70s. I can remember SF then, it was legendary. While I don't agree with everything, there was a sincere emphasis on peace and love, and demonstrating it, plus non materialism and certainly anti-war, and other truths. I think now, most people think these attributes would be good to return to society, especially in USA.
