  • Ibn Khaldun, an Andalusian originated Muslim born in Tunis, North Africa in the 14th century propogated the myth about Ham became black wrote wrote, “Ham, having become black because of a curse pronounced against him by his father, fled to the Maghrib to hide in shame.... Berber, son of Kesloudjim [Casluhim], one of his descendants, left numerous posterity in the Maghrib." - “Ibn Khaldun, [I]Histoire I, 177–178.

  • Blame historians like Ibn Rakik who stated “the first people to inhabit North Africa were five colonies of Sabaeans under Ibn Ifriki, King of Yaman which gave birth to 600 tribes of Berbers”. (MacMichael, H.A., History of the Arabs of Sudan, 1922, p. 8 fn. 2). Don't blame the messenger. That is what Berbers have been telling the world for 2000 years and more.

  • I travelled in Africa three times during years 1973 - 1994, one year each, each journey.. I met with these Tuareg in middle of sahara during 1979 trip. They were spectacular people. This meeting was during a Sahara transverse trip. From Algeria to Benin. I lived it. It was beyond belief. You can count on the fact that these people will protect their own, but I don't think they would involve themselves in Euro-Us Politic..

  • this makes me feel so enlightened!

sram zi umathgum zi idurar N'Ariff

greetings from your Amazigh brother from the Rif Mountains

    imazighen are White and Black

    Diffrent colors 1 Ethnicity

  • @awayger must be because the ones in the north, algeria, morroco etc... mixed with arabs and europeans and the ones in the south Mali, Niger, like me, have mixed with blacks.

  • @bzou10

whatever happend in the past whe are one people and united on the same land.

  • @bzou10 Not really... Berbers of north Algeria ( speacially kabily ) r the most nonmixed berbers ... the kabily ( like me ) r its own group .

  • @civilisationskerl - that's funny my ex A KABYLE FROM SOUK AHRAS said his grandfather claimed his people came from Sicily. And you are on here claiming to be nonmixed Berbers. Where is the single tribe 500 years ago that is called near white in color among the Berbers. Why is it you people are spreading the idea that you are unmixed when even the Kabyles 150 years ago are called very mixed with all phenotypes an mostly brown byy COLONIALISTS!

  • @KushaDwipa the non mixed people doesn't even know computers!

  • @sarduspater01 - that doesn't answer the question.

  • @KushaDwipa it does... it means that the only non mixed people are the ones who doens't have contac at all with "civilized" humans.... like in amazonia, borneo or some islands inhabitants in the pacific ocean...

  • @sarduspater01 sardus - maybe if your people weren't in contact with the "civilized humans" you would be Berber and not just a Berber-speaker pretending to be better than a real Berbers. Right?!

  • @KushaDwipa no...berbers ARE in contact with the rest of the world the use cars for example... i'm talking about civilizations that don't know the "civilized" man, they don't know what jeans, cars, pc, radio and many more things are...

  • @sarduspater01 - OK I think I see what your saying although I'm not sure. I think the world can do without cars, pc radio and many more things personally.lol! THe world is being destroyed by a lot of that stuff.

  • @KushaDwipa i totally agree, i'm just saying that the only non mixed people are this kind of tribes... i never said is good or bad....

  • @KushaDwipa

    one problem with that story.

the mountain imazighen didn't mix but like the Desert imazighen Isolated themself from the rest.

so a kabyle today or a rifi or a atlas amazighen Today whould likely be the same as 500 years ago and not much diffrent than a 1000 years ago.

and one thing DONT TELL LIES:

SOUK-AHRAS is not KABYLE it is inhabited by ARABIC speaking ALGERIANS.

  • @awayger - my ex-husband a Kabyle WAS BORN in Souk AHRAS FRIEND! DOn't tell me they are all ARAB speaking. THEY ALSO SPEAK BERBER AND ARE BERBER! Ancient Souk Ahras was the home of the half Roman and half-Berber Augustine REMEMBER!!? So don't tell me I'm the one telling lies. BERBER IS A LANGUAGE AND NOTHING MORE!

  • @KushaDwipa

i didnt say they are arabs, BUT arab-speaking and they don't identify themself as imazighen but as arabs, so your story is of no credibilaty.

  • @awayger - there is much rioting going on in places like Souk Ahras because many of the people don't like that they have to speak an dlearn Arabic. There is a "Berber" identity movement there as in many other Arab speaking parts of Algeria. : )

  • @KushaDwipa

alhamdulilah for that in morocco too.

but the funny thing is those people who adhere to that movement are all meditareanian north africans and do not resemble your fairytale black berbers.

    peace

ps. there are even some tuareg tribes who denied there amazigh background and said that they where arabs from ancestry , all for political adventages.

  • @awayger - I thought I mentioned here I was married to a Kabyle from Souk Ahras. I KNOW WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE. And you are correct they look like Mediterraneans and not ancient Berbers. That is why my son's great grandfather who adopted Mesaadiya told his father they anciently came from Sicily! Of course Tuareg and ALL true Berbers have always claimed they came from the Yemen ( the original Kana'an), but that was over 3500 years ago. lol! Berbers are not a RACE, its a dialect!

  • @KushaDwipa

sorry girl but you are really messed up.

    now your mixing things up.

  • @awayger - An 19th c. British author James Orr wrote about the Shluh/Chleuh traidtions, “The Shellooh, it must be observed are a clans people and great genealogists. They call themselves, the descendants of Mazigh, son of Canaan, and consider their northern neighbours, the Brebber of Fez, as Philistines, descendants of Casluhim, son of Mizraim" p. 263 Penny Cyclopaedia of the Society for the Difusion of Useful Knowledge 1835

  • Comment removed

  • @awayger - the new nationalist myth is something u are making up - not the Tuareg who know their history being not as much mixed with Europeans and Syrians as more northern Berbers.

  • @KushaDwipa

what are you talking about mixing up.

    read history .

no syrian entered the rif mountains the last of them lived in tanger for 30 years and the all killed at the battle of the nobles.

and europeans are the ones whe hate the most, did you know that if you whent to the rif and said to them you are europeans, you will get linched and killed.

dont talk bullshit europeans are still called "Irumiyen" in my language and that means Romans, we still today the day call all europeans Roman

  • @awayger - the original Berbers as pirates took whole populations of European villages as slaves for centuries. They have mixed with the Berbers. Andalusians also were largely mixed with near eastern and Eruopean peoples and they the ANDALUSIANS HAVE come into Africa with the Moors and mixed with the North AFricans. That is why people today think of Ibn Khaldun as a "Berber". Look at what genetics say. The mtdna of northern Berbers is largely Near Eastern (Levantese) and European. : )

  • @awayger - your ancestors are mixed genetically between Europeans, and indigenous North Africans. There is nothing wrong with that. But what is wrong is the sickening and frantic attempts of modern BERBER -SPEAKERS to claim that the early Berbers looked like and were biologically related to Europeans when all descriptions before the 16th century say they were the exact opposite - regardless of how many slaves they took from Africa or Europe!.

  • @KushaDwipa

who said whe are related to europeans, whe hate them.

but whe do respect them because they are productive and hardworking.

they fought against us threw poison gas on us and destroyed whole villages.

a alaouite sultan named abdallah said in 1723, afther the slave rebellion:

i cannot wait on the day i will kill the black goat and the white sheep.

    meaning :

Black goat : west africans slave who rebbeled.

White sheep : Mountains Imazighen whome he fought.

  • @awayger - u hate them? That's funny u should mention the alawi (Arab) sultans. WHat did they look like for hundreds of years. Do u even know. Whether u hate West Africans or not I could care less. The problem is u think u are better than them do to their being slaves in the ottoman period. That doesn't mean the original Berbers were not Black people taking white slaves. lol! They were doing that long before the black slave came along.

  • @KushaDwipa

where did i say i hate west africans?

like i said you are mixing things up i was refering to europeans.

  • @awayger - "Popular Jewish tradition saw in the Berber tribes descendants of the Philistines, who had to flee to North Africa because of the annihilating defeats inflicted on them by king David and his commander and chief Joab.” Maimonides – p. 13 by Heschel Macmillan 1982.

  • @awayger - the people that occupied the coast of Morocco and invaded southern Spain even in pre-Islamic times were early Berbers. That is why the Spaniard Isidore of Seville said - “The Moors have bodies black as night, while the skin of the Gauls is white...” (From The Etymologies of Isidore of Seville, XIX xxiii 7, published by Stephen A. Barney, Cambridge University Press, 2006.) : ) I guess he really messed things up too.

  • @KushaDwipa

you girl have nothing to do and the american livestyle made you feel inferior to white people.

so you do everything to prove that you are more than a grandchild of a slave.

even stealing history and trying to prove lies with obesrvations made thousand of years ago.

go now to the rif and tell me that those people are pitchblack.

look i dont believe you, and i will never.

and that will never change and allot of my friends online have dont DNA test and all are white and e1b1b1.

  • @awayger

    done not dont, typo sorry

  • @awayger - actually my ancestors come from Africa Europe America and Asia and I am proud of it. If I am a slave I am proud to be one.lol! If you mean u are very light in color that is fine. I have that in my family too with a brother and mother with blue/green and hazel eyes. No one said people of the Riff are pitch black. I am just referencing what they were described as 15000 years ago. If u call me a slave, except your heritage at least because white complexion doesn't come from Berbers!lol!

  • @KushaDwipa

wooowww i never said you are a slave.

but some people can't accept their heritage and try too steal that of others.

and i assumed that you are from those people.

about me i consider myself 100% North african.

there is 1 story of 1 woman who a great great great ancestor bought as slave and then married who was portugees.

  • @awayger - tu are 100% percent North African as much as I am 100 % American. You can't accept your heritage. No one is stealing your Europeans slave ancestors. All blacks in America come of mixed heritage. You probably have many of them in your family otherwise you would not be as "white" as u say u are over the last several centuries. There were no early Berbers described as fair in color especially in the Riff. One of my brothers is often confused with being white. So what?!

  • @KushaDwipa

    hhaahaha you are funny.

even if i dont agree with you , i respect you for your Stubbornness.

my ancestors where the idrisid and the marinid rulers and viziers and soldiers and imams, not europeans.

  • @awayger - lol! u are the stubborn one. ur ancestors were whoever. And the early Berber ancestors were black Africans related to East Africans and the originally occupants of Arabia. Idrisids and Marinids were related to various Middle Eastern and European peoples (BECAUSE THEY HAD SLAVE WOMEN ANCESTRY) as well as Africans including Berbers.

  • @KushaDwipa

idrisid wher Quraishi arabs mixed with Awraba imazighen, nothing europeans here.

Marinid where Zenata Berbers from libya and south tunisia and settled in algeria and morocco,

  • @awayger - Idrisids like most aristocrats in the Muslim world were descendants of white EUROPEAN slave women. That was there preference and that is no my problem. But don't claim that this did not exist.lol!

  • @KushaDwipa

are you your fathers daughter or you mother.

did you take you father or you mothers lastname???

because in my culture you are of your father not your mother !!!!

  • @awayger -personally i don't care what u are I am only concerned that u create some nationalist identity removing other Africans from their heritage which they suffered for thousands of years due to their BLACKNESS!

  • @KushaDwipa

    what africans ???

i didn't say black berbers aren't berbers, you are the one who said white berbers are not berbers, i ame not racist BUT YOU.

  • @awayger - I said there were not any European looking Berber tribes before the 16th century. HOW IS THAT RACIST?!!

  • @KushaDwipa

no you deny that modern day white berbers are not berbers that is RACIST.

  • @awayger - the fact is u people are avoiding what the history books say about the appearance of early Berbers both in Africa and in Iberia. There were very few "pale" people among early Berbers period! That's why Iraqi Ibn Butlan 11th century said- "Their color is mostly black, though some pale ones can be found among them. If you can find one whose mother is of Kutama, whose father is of Sanhaja, and whose origin is Masmuda..." etc. The word black in Arabic is a very strong word.

  • @KushaDwipa

    i dont avoid i deny

  • @awayger - Yaacov Lev wrote in, “Army Regime and Society in Fatimid Egypt” (1987) about the 20,000 Masmuda men that made up part of the Fatimid troops in Egypt saying, “Masamida were Berbers from the Western Maghreb. Nasir-i Khusrau, however, says that they were blacks and characterized them as infantry who used lances and swords” deny what?!!! that these people were what they were?!!

  • @KushaDwipa

black is a definition and a desciption based on personel experience,

if you showed me the first time a hindou i whould say he is black african.

and if you showed me a mongolian for the first time i whould say he is african.

    they are quite dark.

maybe dark meant for those people tanned?

if all libyans where black for example why didn't the greeks just call them Aetiopi/ ethiopian like the Nubii.

Aetiopi means burnt face or black/negro

  • @awayger - lets not deliberately confuse the issue. u don't like the word black because in your country the term is associated with slavery. everybody knows that. No one said all libyans were black. There were many descendants of Scythians and early Greeks in Libya, and they said so. Of course they called the Mauri and mazikes "Ethiopians" as I told u from the beginning because THATS WHAT THEY WERE!

  • @KushaDwipa

wwoowww dont lie here girl never where the libyans described as Ethiopians.

but some Ethiopians roamed the libyan land and intermarried with libyans.

and no in my land BLack dousn't means slave.

to be more precise in my language whe dont say black people.

whe call black people or sub-saharan africans as "Agnaw" which means "He who dousn't know how to speak" which is a synonime for "Azizon" which means dumb or silent.

  • @awayger - first off I don't appreciate u calling me a liar. Second I just gave u the name of the neo-Roman document where the Mazikes i.e. the ancestral Tuareg, were called Ethiopians. Garamantes adn Gamphasantes were also equated with Ethiopians. The word "Niger" or "Nigri" was often used synonomously with the word Mauri by the Romans/Neo-Romans IN THEIR DOCUMENTS. Gnawa or Ijnawan, Djanawa doesnt come from your language, and is an African name for the Mandinke people. lol!

  • @KushaDwipa

you are calling me a liar so why whould i accept that from you???

and like i said you haven't showed any proof.

and no Agnaw or Maragnaw is Tamazight, again dont come here with Afro-centrist bullcrap.

    Agnaw is not Djnawa.

is a word with a meaning and not a name.

  • @awayger u need to stop ur crazy talk. U can go back and show me where I called or even implied that u were a liar. Don't project urself and ur own sayings onto me. Ur own people went on Wikipedia and talked about the theory of Agnaw being derived from the name being likely derived from Gnawa from the name Ghanawa taken from the kingdom of Ghana. Ignawa is not a name made up by Americans Berbercentric white-worshipping fool!

  • @KushaDwipa - I don't what Agnaw has come to mean in your language, if it is related to Gnawa that is not what it originally meant. Get it?!

  • @KushaDwipa i don't car what Agnaw has come to mean among u. That's not what it meant among in Gnawa peoples or Tuareg.

  • @awayger ur disrespect of Tuareg tradition and other African peoples heritage is no doubt why they disavowed your mixed lot. I for one am glad. They need to keep hold of their traditions before u write them out of their own Afro-Asiatic history. : )

  • @awayger Stephane Gsell quoted from the 4th century Expositio Totius Mundi in a 1926 publication which says one barbarous population lived in the desert known both as “Mazices and Ethiopians” see Carocopino, Le fin du Maroc Romain. Melanges d’archeologie et d’histoire. 57 pp. 349-448.1940, p. 391-393 and Gsell, Histoire Ancienne de L’Afrique du Nord, Les Royaumes Indigenes Organisation Sociale, Politique et Economique 43. Paris, 1927, p. 2).

  • @awayger - BTW - Berber is a name of Africans that once lived in Somalia i.e. Ethiopia and spread between Algeria and the Yemen. That is why the Zaghawa (from whence the name Zuwagha) and other black Africans still call themselves Berberi. It has nothing to do with the term "barbarian" a name for tribes the Greeks and Romans thought were wild. The name Mauri Bavare or Babar is related to the name Bafour and was often written as Berber.

  • @KushaDwipa

ZaGhwa is a Ethiopian name which is to be honest very close to my language.

because ZaGhawa is actually "Zi Agaw" which means in their language "From Agaw"

and in my language it means "From the Gathering point"

"Zi" means in both languages Tamazight and Ge'Ez "FROM"

but their language is closer to arabic because allot of their word are identicall to arabic, so it seemed for me the first time i read about them , that they where a mix between berbers and arabs.

  • @awayger - Zaghawa or Zaghwe are probably related names. Their dialect is closer to Arabic because the Arabians were African Asiatic people like the Berbers were. Berbers Abyssinians and Arabians were the same people 3000 years ago!

  • @KushaDwipa - if Masmuda Ketama and Sanhaja Berbers during the Fatimid and Almoravid dynasty were described as black and then dark brown until the 14th century and now there are many non black people claiming descent from Masmuda today. HOW DOES THAT MAKE ME A RACIST! ?

  • @KushaDwipa - I meant to say 1500 years ago. not 15000

  • @awayger Tuareg claim descent from the Himyarites from Yemen. But this is not a new claim, "Ifrikus son of Dhu’l Manar was the ancestor of the Berbers according to Al Himyari of the 12th century. He left Jericho after being pushed out by Joshua the son of Nun." P. 50 Essai Sur Les Origines des Touaregs, by Jacques Hureiki. This Jericho refers to the Yerach in Yemen where was the original Canaan/Phoenicia before they left and colonizedinvade Syria, the Aegean and Africa over 3000 years ago.

  • @awayger - Bougie in Kabylie was invaded by Vandals. Show me one reference to a Berber tribe that is described as fair in color before the 15th century and I will believe what you say. The word Imazighen comes from the Tuareg people known to the Romans as Mazikes originally extending between Yemen and the Horn.

  • @KushaDwipa

Mazikes lived in south tunisia and it wasn't the romans who called them so but the Byzantines or East-Roman empire, be clear in your speach.

and dont believe that bullshit story that we came from yemen.

and the vandals came with children and woman and elders, yes they Vandalized north east Maghreb, but the imazighen fought them and with the help of the byzantines there kingdom was destroyed and they assimilated in the amazigh community. like the roman settlers and the punics.

    bye

  • @awayger - umm OK u got me there south Tunisia was the main part of the Mazike homeland and Tripolitania. The Mazike is from the ancient Yemenite and Horn of African population Mazikha of the Al Hajar who were spread until the Eastern Desert. Yes, you are right it is the Greco-Roman empire rather than Roman. Yes I agree with the rest of what you said - surprising, since I have seen very few Berbers knowing history. lol!. Until the 20th Amazigh designated only one Berber group though.

  • @KushaDwipa I know I will learn something everytime I read a post from you thanks!

  • @mrabdullah71 - thanks for your confidence, Mr. Abdullah. : )

  • @KushaDwipa no problem! I enjoy reading you.

  • @bzou10 but hey.... we´re all humans and the same

allahu akbar it doesnt matter what a human looks like or where he´s from.. only what he does is important.

  • @bzou10 what you said it s not true, not alle berbers are mixed with arabe, our montains(djurdjura kabyle, aures chawi, chenoua tipaza)keep our blood pure,we are 100% amazigh, for the black people,he was among us,because we are all african, not same with arabic whom came from echarq el awsakh

  • Great song. I love their song "Lulla" I only wish I understood the lyrics.

  • why is there a western compulsion to comparing, criticising and ripping everything to shreads critically or analytically? just appreciate that it is from the heart, a heart that lives in a place and feels things so deeply and so differently you can only hope to feel it. forget the bullshit, just LIVE!

  • Do you think maybe this is true for you, in some part, because you don't know the words?

  • Say it like it is man!!!!

  • @domonatricycle . . . well said from " on 'yer tricycle , en Espanol " que paso en la selva negra " = " What's happening in the dark / black jungle ( selva ) & as the answer is not always to be found in the concrete jungle , some of the residents do occaisionally get to the hospital & do manage and survive having the armchairs / sofas etc successfully ' cut off their arses ' , then they begin to , just LIVE !

  • @MrBurntislander aweh baba Mr Burnt, its the truth. The real jungle is for straight up animals though..I cud never hope to survive in the jungle with nothing but my bare bones and viewpoints. Tho the real jungle would stress me out less and upset me mentally less than the concrete jungle...by some paradox i end up loving the concrete jungle because there are some incredible animals in it. if you dont know it already, i recommend the vibrant sounds of franco et TP OK jazz and baba fela kuti-PEACE!

  • @domonatricycle AMEN.
