  • Hi Lisa. I've seen some of your totorials & I think they're great! I was just wondering what size of foam rollers do you use to achieve this look? I don't think you mentioned it on the tutorials that I've seen.

  • @donutville I never saw this question. :( I used medium sized rollers. :)

  • Oh my gosh, I haven't heard Happy Talk in ages. I did a hula dance to that when I was five, and we did grass skirts, tube tops, and of course, the big flowers in our hair. I still like big flowers in my hair to this day. :)

  • just gorgeous

  • Just bought sponge rollers and cut my hair to about his length. I'm so excited to try this looks out! XD

  • If you start with wet hair, can you try blow drying your hair to speed up the setting? Or would that cause too much frizz?

  • you could sit under a hooded dryer but blow drying might cause your arms to get tired, if nothing else. haha.

  • i'm so happy a friend told me about your vids! i love you now lol

i had long hair and i just decided to chop it off so i can style my hair again :D now, i noticed you use sponge rollers, do you recommend that more than hot rollers? how long are they kept on?? 8hrs??

  • for this look, I do recommend sponge rollers. Roll towel dried hair and sleep on it or spray each individual section damp before rolling. The latter takes about 4 hrs to air dry. Good luck and thanks for your compliment.

  • /sigh/ I suppose gorgeous pin up styles are only for gals with hair that holds curl. Having long, (2.5ft) and extremely fine, board straight hair I am never able to achieve pin curls or sponge sets that last longer than 20-25 mins. Any pin up styles/suggestions for kitties like me?

  • LOL...you gals w/ super long hair kill me..sighing all over the place. Cut your hair! If not, you have alot of work ahead of you, especially if your hair doesnt hold curl. You'll have to learn to artistically construct try pincurls in order to achieve a semblance of pin up styles...and your arms will get tired! hee hee.

  • woops...*DRY* pincurls. The kind that stay in place as part of the style.

  • I grew up with my grandmother pin curling and rag curling my wet hair every night as a child. I used to have amazingly glorious Shirley Temple ringlets, but the older I got, the less my hair would hold curl. I've always had lower/mid back length hair-- but I'd be willing to cut it if I could find a cut that could give me volume.

  • I would take a photo of Rita Hayworth to your stylist. Tell her you'd like your hair to have a 'long look' but be more conducive to holding a set. Tell you that Lisa Freemont Street on Youtube (LOL) told you that you might have better luck w/ a shorter hair length and that you heard that Rita's were about 10 inches? That means that the lower layers will fall just above your shoulder blades. The top ones w/ fall much shorter, lending a 'waterfall' effect when you do your curls. :)

  • I WILL DO IT! HAHA!! I'll let you know what the result of it all is. Mebbe I'll even do a video of it. ;) Thanks!!

  • Love, love , love your tutorials - really simple to follow. I am just getting into the whole pin-up style and after speaking to my hairdresser was at a bit of a loss as she didn't really have a clue about what I meant - so thankyou!

  • my friends last name is frahm

  • Where can I find sponge rollers? =] x

  • your local drugstore should have them.

  • how do you put your side combs in? any way i try them they just dont stay, maybe my hair is too thick...maybe side combs aren't the best, idk

  • You ccan see the way I insert them in the vid, I just push them in facing against the direction of the hair. Your problem is probably the side combs you're using. Try the cheap Goody's one that come in sets of two for a dollar. :)

  • Flower clips--just buy cheap artificial cloth flowers, pull them off the stems and hook them onto bobby pins.

  • you've inspired me to try this!!! oh man i hope i can pull it off! (i have coarse hair but i get it straightened)

  • where do you buy all your flower clips?

all the ones i've seen are way to big for my liking and honeslty i was thinkning about just makng my own, but if you have any suggestions that would be great!!

  • I have a 1950's theme wedding coming up (my wedding) and was having a hard time finding tutorials for gals with shorter hair- love your videos and going to try my hand at it!! Thanks!

  • Glad to help. Actually, long hair was almost unheard of in the 1940's and 1950's. Chin to shoulder length was the rage.

  • You are amazing Lisa !! I thought these styles would be difficult to do but i have wavy/ curly hair and its same length as yours and its so easy to do now i know how. LOVE ur videos, thanks so much xxx

  • Ah! Thank you! I actually rolled my hair in sponge curlers set just like that last night and had no idea what I was going to do with it! But i know now! :)

  • I love love love it on 2:09 when u pincurl the remaining hair - that is the height of creativity - not just coming up with fancy attractive stuff, as important as that is and as well as u do it, but also being able to solve instantly occuring problems which u did with ease. Absolutely wonderful stuff, I'd better subscribe to u right now - ur awesome! x

  • I just came across your videos, i love them, this one especially! I'm going to a 1940's WWII meets old Hollywood style party tonight on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA and wanted to get some tips on how to do my hair. You've been most inspirational, I must say! Thank you so much. You are beautiful too! Where can I find a big flower like that to pin into my hair? I've searched a few local beauty supply stores and came up empty handed.

  • AHHHAAAHH! HAPPY TALK! I LOVE THAT SONG! not a fan of the musical itself, but when my music class watched it we had to watch the part with Happy Talk about five times!

  • By the way i would like to ask you, have you seen the movie The wizard of Oz, the part where Dorothy is going to meet the wizard and they changed her hair to long coils, i think is what they are called, do you know how to do that kind of curl? my hair is very long, almost to my waist so i think it would look really nice with that look. :)

  • You can achieve those ringlets by using sponge rollers and only unwinding them, not brushing them out. The ringlets should stay in nicely. Or you can use a curling iron...spray hair lightly w/ hairspray before using the iron. It will sizzle...that's fine. :)

  • i decided to use the sponge rollers a second time but with wet curly hair, and slept all night with them, really uncomfortable, and when i woke up in the morning, my hair was still wet, and i took off the rollers and it looked worst than a poodle dog hair, so i decided not to use the sponge rollers again, until i saw this video, where you moist the hair just a bit with spray on straight hair and dont sleep with them hahaha, im going to try that next time to see if it works :)

  • I still recommend sleeping on the rollers w/ wet hair. Just towel dry it first so it's not SOPPING and then it won't be still wet the next morning (unless your hair is really thick and then you just need to use less hair per roller). Even if it is seriously kinky the next morning, it will relax considerably over the day and be friggin' awesome by evening. So keep that in mind. Otherwise, misting it will give you good results.

  • i have a lot of sponge rollers, i bought them thinking i would have a nice hairstyle for my sister's wedding, my hair is curly, but i straightened it the night before the wedding, and with dry hair i placed the sponge rollers and slept all night with it, (barely slept), and when i woke up i took off all the rollers and my hair was still straight, it didnt work, so i had to flat iron and wear it really straight for the wedding :( , then another day i decided to use the sponge rollers again...

  • I've never seen those green sponge curlers at the stores. I only see the pink ones which are the largest but not large enough for long thick hair. Actually those sponge rollers are hard to find b/c most people use curlilng irons or other techniques. Where did you get yours?

  • wow, this hairstyle is simply gorgeous, especially on you :) i have a question, i haven't used curlers before, do you suggest any certain types or brands? (if anything, i'd have to shop at a place like target, a pharmacy, or some place at the mall) my hair is almost exactly like yours; a little below the shoulders & layered. are sponge curlers the best type to get? sorry for all the questions, i just want to make sure i get the right ones! thanks so much :)

  • Thanks...:) I don't recommend a certina brand but sponge rollers might be a good start for you because they're easy to control the 'size' of the curl based on the dampness of your hair and how tightly you wind it. Wal Mart is where I get mine...not sure of the brand but they come small medium large or all three combined in a zippered pouch.

  • i love your style!!

  • I'm doing this hairstyle for prom now. I'm so excited. :)

  • This look would be great for my upcoming prom, I'll have to try it out.

  • Beautiful, as always!

  • Loved this style. Beautiful!

  • Looks great. I can just see you put on a flowing dress and give Ginger Rogers a run for her money :)

  • LOL...I wish. :) Ginger Rogers is my style icon. I absolutely love her to pieces...

  • By the way, what's the name/artist of the song you used? It's so cool!

  • The first song is Bobby Darin 'I'm Beginning to See the Light' and the 2nd one is called 'Happy Talk' from the musical South Pacific. That's the movie version. Thanks for asking...;)

  • So adorable! Oh and I love the last song from South Pacific, nice touch. :)

  • haha...I wanted to enter the Happy Talk hand gestures into the video but decided to spare you...;)

  • Oh man you should have! That would be so funny!

  • THAT WAS AWESOME.

  • Wow, beautiful, stunning hairstyle and beautiful red flowers too. And thank you for the photos at the end, thank you very much.

  • love your hair

  • fantastic...as always!!!! Now I just need to find the right size combs...mine are way to big.

  • For the record: Mine are too big as well. I broke one of my high quality ones and I bought those 96 cent deals from Wal Mart...they are too big for really fine hair but they'll do in a pinch.

  • That is gorgeous!

  • I love this look. I tried your 1940's look the other day and it was divine. Keep these videos coming. They truly are classic beauty styles.

  • Another one of my favorite looks! This is lovely, especially with your red hair :)
