You gotta love commercial street. It can be pretty tough out there and you would think there would be more rehab programs available ( and better ones that what we have). Oz was shut down but there is another camp on the west end of Kearny just before West bypass next to Ochard park and wendys. They are nice people. Just been delt some bad cards.
i really have a problem with the sexist policies of these so-called 'shelters' and their attitudes against single men. how are the livelihoods of women and married men worth more than them? besides, all because one doesn't have a picket fence doesn't mean their 'homeless' anyways.
Capitalism is the problem. This society is totally about driving a profit. But the cold hard fact is that there is a finite ammount of profit that can possibly be made. When those who have made the profit flick their finger at the rest of us - we have nothing but dreams. It's a shame that our society pays BIG money to house violent prisoners for life in AC and heat, three sure meals. But if you are out here just trying, they don't give a rat's ass. America is messed up!
not everyone destroys their lives with drugs and alcohol...i was once homeless in the middle of winter with no one to go to or no one to help me because i was in foster care and as soon as i turned 18 they told me to leave, gave me no money or anything....i never have used drugs in my whole life and i am not a alcoholic....shit happens, and i wish that everyone who thinks all people are drunks and drug abusers would be homeless themselves and see how it is!
dilbertgeg, it's less like a journey looking for friends, and more like a journey to find someone, anyone, who gives a rat's ass about you. You make friends in school. You make friends because you feel secure in the fact that you have a home. Someone living in a completely different world isn't given the opportunity to have friends. Being burdened with a stigma of drug abuse can ruin most things. You have a nice sentiment, but I still think you don't understand.
Sorry if that sounded condescending. I certainly know that drugs/alcohol are not always linked to homelessness, it's a stereotype, but sometimes linked.
I also know people are often heartless. I was trying to be a little bit positive that NOT EVERYONE is as cruel as the people who kicked you out when you turned 18. It's hard to find people who care.
I got injured on the job and it caused multiple health problems. It cost as much to rent a room in someone's house as my disability check. Too sick to ever work again.
alcoholism is a disease. you dont understand addiction or the problems these human beings have been faces with in their lives to warrant escape. im sure they'd give anything to have your life.

shishomiru04,
I'm sorry you got fucked over like that. It's a cold, cruel world, but it's often a kind, loving world too.
It's a journey to find good friends and to be a good friend.

People destroy their lives with drugs and alcohol. Then they want us to feel sorry for them. Give me a break!

And I am not on drugs and I have an education.
