  • reminds me of steven segal for some reason voice aswell

  • I did three consecutive concerts with James in the U.K....somewhat surreal experience as you can imagine...doing all Ricky Nelson's hits with JB standing next to you is as good as it gets....I saw his guitarwork up close and STILL can't get anywhere near it ...a sheer genius and great guy...photos on my website donwoods.co.uk..

  • @vinnothelizard ~ I don't know about about a full head of hair but James Burton has DEFINITELY got a full head of gutiar! Eh?

  • IF THAT ISN'T LOVE - Elvis by Carlos

  • he still thinks he has a full head of hair!!! ha ha ha ..

  • @vinnothelizard And the Irish still think alcohol makes them witty. Ha ha ha

  • well smack my chickin'

  • Well johnnymac497 old saying can't see the forest for the trees

  • Wow, James Burton can even make a red-knob Fender amp sound good...

  • What a legend! Love his style. He's a huge influence on me and my playing. Great lesson. Peace. : )

  • this is chicken picking -- watch?v=fddfX3BqM_g

  • I guess I didn´t understand since this lesson is... made for chicken learning how to play guitar.

  • wow i didn't know brad paisley has a James Burton telecaster!

  • amazing technique! amazing player!! teacher...not so much :-)

  • Totally Awesome.... what else is there to say???????

  • a hell of a mullet.

  • He's almost as bad as Malmsteen where teaching is concerned

  • Uh... what?

  • Almost every guitarplayer is doing things J.B invented. Perhaps you don`t realize, but this is one of the guys who co-invented chickin pickin en stringbending technics. Ricky Nelson`s hit Mary Lou is one of the hits he played on , but also a whole lot of Elvis records. Watch the DVD Black & White Night from Roy Orbison , there he plays some great licks.

    J.B. Thanks a milion.

  • That was some pretty sweet pickin'. Nice Tele' twang indeed. Rock it.

  • uhh.. yeah... so .. uhh.. you uhhh. . . just do this [plays something really fast without teaching you anything]

  • sounds a bit like mark knopfler

  • @johndeaconisahero

More like Knopfler sounds like him... he was doing this stuff in the late 50s, he pretty much invented this style.

  • @johndeaconisahero YOu mean Mark Knopfler sounds like James Burton

  • James Burton is one of the best ever! Wes Bryan

  • No disrespect to him or nothing, but his tone sounds really empty an blank :(

  • @spazmicjosh

i dont know what music you listen to, but this is pretty much what a Telecaster sounds like without distortion!

  • @spazmicjosh

Right, that would be the same tone that got him hired on countless hit record sessions.

  • @lordkoos Well i can get that tone out of a shitty practice amp which is 15 years old so, go figure.

  • @spazmicjosh No disrespect to you but go check your ears.

  • the man with the paisley telecaster!

  • his guitar reminds me of a chinese brothel,i want one.

  • @thewylde89 well the newer one like I have is too pink so Im getting a new one which is like the original redish version here . if you go to Bill crook he makes them for $2800 .bill makes guitars for Brad Paisley :)

  • Man, when he started playing that strange sound in his guitar, I laughed, but then I realized he's one of the most skilled guitarists ever! The man is a funny guitar genious!

  • 25 mei a.s. kun je James Burton in levende lijve zien en horen in het Paard van Troje te Den Haag!!

  • this isn't the kind of music i like but if you want to be a good musician u need to learn and apreciate different types of playing and music

  • @TheScrewed0ver I know what you're talking about. The sad thing is most people don't take pride in what they do. If everyone could appreciate different styles of music, whether you like it or hate it. We'd all be open to new possibilties. I totally have respect for you. Most people can't even go a day without listening to something they don't like. Sometimes you just have to experience it though. The more you know, the better you become and are open to new ideas. God Bless.

  • that's my friends dad

  • James Burton is an outstanding guitarist ,but I have to play the devil's advocate & say Gerry McGee picks this style when he is doodling on his old Les Paul.

I'll give this 5 stars for coolness.

  • Choking the strings in chicken pickin'? Can we call it chokin' the chickin' to save time?

  • @GuillermoSmyser If you're after saving time you shouldn't waste it on youtube ;-)

  • @Account091027 But time well wasted, isn't.

  • @GuillermoSmyser that is fucking funny...

  • Pure legend!

  • james burton is awesome guitarist truly a picking master

  • Description: I really can't tell what the heck he's doing here but it sounds good."

Jan73463: "I really can't tell what the heck he's doing here but it sounds good."

  • what the crap dude you have no idea what ur talking about!!!!!!!!

    tht guy is awesome!!!

  • @daman8852 You are one of those people who has no musical skill and thusly are not able to spot real talent. So maybe you should just keep your ignorant inbred opinion to yourself

  • @KingUfoTweeker Sloppy is your mother and father for having you.

  • look at kingufotweeks profile...hes a fucking comedian hahaha

  • I saw him before I even knew who he was way back in the early '60s when he would back Ricky Nelson on their musical numbers at the end of each show "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet". He brilliantly played his Telecaster on his unforgettable solo on Ricky's rendition of "Fools Rush In". He was a major influence on my wanting to learn guitar. He's definitely one of my absolute favorite guitarists. I'll be buying this instructional video. Thanks for posting.

  • James Burton>Brad Paisley!

  • @AutisticPersona Well he is considerably older. I like both of them. Brad's play album brought me into the style so I appreciate that. But I guess if I was looking objectively I'd find that you are right.

  • OK EVERYONE CHECK THIS OUT! James instructional video is fast BUTTTTT if anyone bashing this actually BOUGHT the video would come to know he included a BOOKLET that includes EVERYTHING hes playing in the video so u can learn at a even slower pace.

  • this is only a snippet of a full length instructional video...he doesn't suck. He can teach because he is one of the innovators of Chicken Pickin'. It was Roy Nickels and him who developed that style of playing so long ago.

  • Comment removed

  • That's a joke right?

  • guys this guy was a influence on brad paisley not the other way around hes played for ricky nelson and elvis and was ahead of his time

  • Nice troll.

  • holy crap, read a book or something...get out of your little world where you think what is now has always been. Brad Paisley couldn't be Burton's guitar tech! Watch old clips of Ricky Nelson or the 70s Elvis stuff after Scotty Moore (another great picker too)!

  • I can tell you know nothing about music!

  • if u knew james burton u would realize that FENDER made that guitar for him in 1969 before brad ever touched it plus Brad will tell u himself he was one of his huge influences

  • That's the guitar he played with Elvis? Looks too clean to be the original.

  • it is the original cause the paisley pattern is the same if you look back in pictures .plus paisley patterns on the guitar changed with EVERY model made after this one. Fender tells that they made it for him but he didnt play it till Elvis saw it on stage in 1969 .Elvis called him up personally to his room and asked him to play it from now on cause it was far out.james did add a couple things to this guitar.a extra swtich between the knobs and during black and white night a hipshot extender (^^)

  • @gophertele This guy was playing guitar before Paisley was born you clueless ham&egger

  • God that guitar sounds so sweet

  • Hard to play this style in slow motion. Check out Jeff "Skunk" Baxter playing lessons, he does go slow mo.

  • are you serious?

  • He is the Absolute best!!...That ever was, is & will be!!

  • he also played with emmylou harris,The jackson 5,And the osmonds,Oh and by the way,FRANK SINATRA...

  • Absolutely Incredible Guitar Playing. Friends at 35GuitarPickupTones{dot}com

  • the master

  • Way too fast for me. I find all the pro's run through things way too fast for the average player.

  • Kiss-Firehouse solo have this:D

  • Burton is a legand on the guitar. If you don't appreciate the style that is one thing but the bullshit putdowns just cast a bad light on the poster.

  • Dear mattklam13...

He played with Elvis, Ricky Nelson, and Roy Orbison. Please forward your resume.

  • James Burton is no pussy ,sunshine. James Burton is about as cool as a man can possibly get.

  • IN FRENCH.. Mr. BURTON...

    p.l.e.a.s.e....

  • Mr. Burton has a shrine at Municipal auditorium, saw it with my own eyes. Hes a legend brothers.

  • dig on that paisley guitar

  • yeah, that's a sweet axe

  • This man inspired my father to pick up a guitar. My dad, who is very skilled at playing the guitar as well, has inspired me to learn to play. Still learning. rofl

  • He did some great stuff with Jerry Lee - check out the solo in "Rockin' my Life Away"

  • James goes to my church. he is so amazing.

  • You must be from the Port city huh?

  • do you think brad enjoys playing with him. they both sound great. i am glad ames is getting his props. thanks james.

  • thanx so much for cuttin out the part where he explains how to do it.. it helped me so much

  • To the person that would cut his hands off...how is anyone going to be able to say to you "hand me my guitar" LOL

  • Why the hell would you cut your hands off to learn this? Then you could never play it. Cut your feet or something instead, huh? Logic.

  • Got to love choking the chicken! =)

  • The great master of country/rock/blues guitar...

  • I have been honored to meet the great James Burton 3 times and to talk on the phone with him 3-4 times-a true guitar genius and authentic human being. I hear his licks in my head as a background theme to my life...

  • I'd help you cut off my hands for chicken picking guitar lessons from him.

  • Pink paisley telecaster and James Burton! A match made in heaven.

  • I too live in Shreveport, LA not very far from James and I also know him, seen him on many occasions and he is GREAT, I even bought me a signature tele of his and love it, now if I could just play 1/2 way as good as him.

  • I'd cut off my hands for chicken picking guitar lessons from him.

  • I'd cut off your hands for chicken pickin lessons from him!

  • yeah that would be the best option! left with no hands! haha funny

  • noone believes me but i know him personally like getting a free ticket to a concert or swimming at his house but noone believes
