  • Brahms was worried that his first symphony might b e compared unfavourably to Beethoven's own and so he put off writing one for twenty years. He needn't have worried, personally I wouldn't swap any of the Brahms symphonies for Beethoven's. This performance does Brahms full justice among many outstanding performances of this work.
