I think I will try an improved version of this trap in the morning. I love some squirrel stew. Only problem is wouldn't having the loop under the stick just sweep the squirrels feet out from under it and possibly hit it in the head with the short tensioning stick (as I call the the one the trigger stick holds in place) and send the little tree rat running away terrified? :P Joking aside thanks for the vid hope there are more to come.

THIS TRAP WON'T WORK.

The trigger is ON TOP of the snare, and thus will interfere with the snare catching a body part.

"Practice like you play" comes to mind. If you practice snaring incorrectly, then you will be wasting a whole lot of calories setting traps that don't trap.

The trigger stick is ON TOP of the snare. It won't work. The snare needs to be free to run up and "snare" the prey. I hope he doesn't ever need to rely on such a thing for meat.

For the 'string' you can use the new willow and new hazel branch bark strips.

Like your video! The Hazel branches can be harvested by cutting just a single length of thin straight branch, leaving the others there for others or for the next trap you set. The good thing is with these you can choose a very thin or a slightly thicker branch, as when green these are all springy.

The other tree that may be useful is Willow. I have never used this, but only because we had none near our home.

But hazel is the bush/tree I made my bows and arrows from and grows long and straight.

Tie a bunch of little nooses out of fishing line, tie those to a stick, lean the stick against the tree, wait afew hours, make soup. All this just sounds a bit unnecissary just to kill one squirrel. Also, if you want to catch a bird, make a hole of the right diameter, put some seed in it, wait afew hours, make some soup. Keep in mind, that bird holes won't work with all birds. only those that have special feathers on the back of thier head which cause them to get stuck.
