  • EVERY SCENE in this movie rings true of the lyrics - One of my favorite movies to watch, even though I must have seen it about 100 times - I cry buckets of tears towards the ending - MUCH THANKS to you for posting this-

  • Susan khoner is of Mexican & czech decent...

  • nicely done!!

  • @JSG1951 Thanks so much!

  • excellent!One of my favorite songs.Thank you!

  • @Shiboricat Thank you!

  • she killed her mother

  • I love this song and the movie. Absolutely amazing that they did this together. AMAZING.

  • This is an amazing video. I didn't realize that a pop song followed this tragedy so closely. The Shangri-las were terrific! And so was this classic film. Always wanted to see Diana Ross and The Supremes Classic "I'm Living In Shame" remixed with clips from IMMITATION OF LIFE. If you can do this moulinrye that would be great!

  • @foreverlarge Thank you and I love the The Supremes as well so if I ever do it, you will be the inspiration!

  • Lyn, you're right. ...BUT there are blacks who look white who live their lives as *whites*. You never really do see a lot of *white-looking* blacks living in black neighborhoods. They usually marry whites (not always) and live among whites, and if they pass for *white* they just won't tell anyone *white* they're black. And you're right, having an indian grandmother or a mexican one (most mexicans are of indian/mayan descent), for example, does not count in this situation.

  • Lyn, that *one-drop* rule is so ridiculous but I know it very well. I am white and know so many whites who are mixed ... MEANING ... they have an Indian mother or father or a black great-grandmother, especially down in the south. Since these people look white, they married white and so forth. New Orleans is a prime example where you see of lot of this and it's no big deal. Life goes on.

  • Today, it would probably be no big deal BUT ... she looks 100% white. She looks like a Natalie Wood type. Back in those days if she were to date a black man, they probably would have been killed by some white people or at least seriously hurt on more than one occasion. The way I see it, she had no choice but to be white. I felt sorry for her mom though. Tough situation all around.

  • The actress who played "Sara Jane" in the movie "Imitation of Life," is Susan Kohner who is Caucasian. Unfortunately, Hollywood often casts Caucasians to play other ethnicities; especially back in the 50's, and prior decades. It was hurtful, and just plain dumb to do so.

  • @jsbach15 That is very true - the other day,I was watching "Pinky" and the lead character was played by Jeanne Crain, who was a white actress- - I am sure they could have gotten someone like Fredi Washington, who was a very beautiful African-American light skinned actress to play that part-

  • Great job. I love what you did with the clips and the song.

  • OMG I LOVE THIS! Do you have the whole movie?

  • u can just buy that movie i have it
