I like sharks & I like watching discovery especially when they have anything on about sharks. But There is no way I would just swim in the ocean with out being in like a boat or a submarine. I would be afraid that a shark that I didnt see before or whatever would just come up from no where. & Thats just dumb to take bait down there too. I want to be a marine biologist too so I've been studying various animals...now I'm kinda afraid of the ocean because of sharks, I wouldn't want to swim with them! I'd much prefer whales and dolphines...at least you know you won't be chewed on!

lol, i have been told they are misunderstood and they don't eat people at all, if they did there would be hundreds of deaths to sharks every day, they can sense from over a mile away and yet statistics point to 5-15 deaths a year from sharks all over the world when millions of people enter shark inhabited waters every day and several people actually swim with sharks on a regular basis

Also that was a very very stupid thing to do he had no protection whatsoever the only thing keeping him from danger is the fact that he has food with him. he should have had a shark suit on and he should have had something a club or a steel rod to push the shark away with if it got too close . These men are supposed to be professionals yet they put their lives on the line to feed a massive predator without a cage, very thoughtless.

it all depends on the situation , the type of shark and the character of the shark. for instance a punch on the nose may work on some sharks , but if there was an aggressive shark a punch on the nose may cost you your life. I have dived with sharks and the best thing to do is if a shark becomes too interested in you is to gently push it away with an object my dive group always take steel bars so that we can push the sharks away if they get too close. punch a shark that is an aggressive move and i have known people who have tried this and been severely bitten. Also you have to realize your dealing with an extremely powerful predator with razor sharp teeth and crushing jaw power and alot of sharks will rettaliate to a punch. And yes alot of sharks do bite realize you are not food and release you, but if a shark was starving it would eat a human regardless.

No They are Pilot fish which accompany sharks, sea turtles and sting rays. They stay with the shark and feed off the bacteria o n the sharks body they also follow the shark because it will lead them to a meal. Does the shark know the little pilot fish is good for the shark by eating bacteria, or does it stay outta sight to much of the shark. In large groups like this another shark could see it and they dont attack them eaither. Something like feild mice that get insect eating bugs that eat ticks in the mice nest and off the mice but the mice know it and leave them be?

No sharks do not actually know why they are there because they are not intelligent enough to realize the purpose of the pilot fish. And the shark wouldn,t even feel the pilot fish feeding on he bacteria from its skin because the skin is so tough. They don,t have alot of feeling on the skin of their body. The reason the shark wouldn,t eat the pilot fish is because they are interested in bigger food such as tuna game fish seals sea turtles ect ect.

I actually said that pilot fish also accompany stingrays and turtles. The only thing keeping the sharks from eating him is two things 1. If they are hungry and two is he displaying prey like behaviour. Also anybody who knows anything about sharks would agree that they are unpridictable. Sure you can read certain movements that indicate changes in a sharks mood, but it is still impossible to guess what they are going to do. Why do you think professional shark divers still get bitten?

safe for hours , it is impossible to second guess them. The only way to predict an attack is to watch the sharks behaviour when they are becoming aggressive and voilent they tend to splash their tale around and move very quickly and purposefully hope this answered your question.

And all credit to Mark Addison, this clip maybe nothing unusall, but swimming with 8 great whites and trying tonic on them(later in the same show) and then catching a 75m ride on the fin of a great white is extraordinary stuff!!!

actually i think thats exactly what they should say. dozens of people each day dive with tigers off the south african coast. there is yet to be a casualty.
i appreciate danger sells, and by all means film makers need to embellish the adrenaline of shark diving a bit to make it watchable. but i think people might be interested to watch something more informative and truthful about the dangers involved, rather than the same mindless "deadly killiing machine" nonsense being dished out over and over
