i am using ubuntueee now, and I really love it more than Xandros. In fact, I had to get ubuntueee, because Xandros crapped out on me after I installed a few updates. Either way nice vid, and I love this sleek OS.. I just need get compiz and wine to work and ill be joyous...
I installed Ubuntu E3, now Easy Pleazy, around a month ago, and despite a few problems, don't miss Xandros at all. The only trouble is Easy Pleazy will see whatever USB port it was installed from as a CD Drive.
According to Ramvi, and a lot of the packages I've installed lately, Ubuntu EEE is making great strides toward working on all netbooks, and I know it works on the MSI Wind.
I have the Ubuntu EEE version ready to go on my 900, but what I want to know is will the webcam/microphone still work on the 900 after I install the Ubuntu EEE O/S?
My Eee is the 900A which is pretty much exactly like your 900 but with no webcam and no bluetooth. I've had no problems with that OS so far on it and neither should you. Have fun!
It probably would work on other netbooks, but some things will likely not function as the drivers in the package were made to work with the Eee specifically. Such as the webcam setup, the wireless card drivers for the card itself.
You're likely better off using the Ubuntu Netbook remix that will come out shortly.
how about the drivers. cant find any drivers to linux ubunto on asus website. ?

Xandros was fun but its security was atrocious so fuck it, I deleted it.
Then I installed ubuntu eee on an eee pc 900 and it ran hideously, unbearably slow with its netmix user interface.
So I disabled that and it ran at a good fast speed.
But it's not open source so fuck it.
Then I installed normal Ubuntu 8.10 (not another ubuntu eee or that easy peasy shit) and I'm happy with it.
For now.

Yes it will. My Eee doesn't have a webcam, but Ubuntu Eee comes with a webcam program called "Cheese".

Anyone know if this supports EeePC 901? Heard that it doesn't work with the wireless adapter, Bluetooth and variable performance on the Atom CPU.

Yes it does, i have it on 901.

How about the advanced stuff like variable CPU operation frequencies, Intel twin/cone view and auto standby (and other battery saving features).

It is normal Ubuntu 8.04 with Netbook remix, so you have same features, just kernel is written for Asus eee.

PS. Its alot ALOT alot better than original Xandros. Its almost perfect.

Hmm I can't remember Ubuntu having those features. Maybe this one does..?

I am going to try and install it on a normal notebook and in a few virtual pc's, if it does it will probably work on most netbooks
I thought it was the perfect user interface for my grandma's laptop, and on 17 inch the huge icons
