Everyone keeps nagging about Loomis leaving but the thing that kept me listening to Nevermore is Warrel Dane...wich makes the band stand out from others. The way I hear it, Atila was playing a lot of the leads live for some time. So, this might be like cell division. one cell forms into two, one band forms into two that are badass. If done properly, sweeps and shreds can really contribute to the overall feel of the song. I know of plenty Metal bands out there (regardless of subgenre) that put a lot less emphasis on technicality but instead, focus more

@Hertsman50 Well it's difficult to say. The album considered by many to be their best is This Godless Endeavour.

If you want less progressive music, and with more vocals, I recommend you their last album The Obsidian Conspiracy. Enemies of Reality (the album) is in my opinion more heavy, and sounds a bit like good Nu-metal, but with great solos, clean vocals, and better sound (if you listen to the remastered version). Once again, every Nevermore album is unique and totally awesome.
