  • the only thing i have against marijuana is that it makes some people lack motivation to do something productive. I can see why it's illegal for that reason, but it should not be criminalized it's far from criminal activity.Do I think i'm breaking the law when I buy marijuana from a buddy or a dealer? no.

  • RIP

  • @johnfredrickson1

Why don't we make obesity illegal, or cigarettes, or driving... since you're so concerned of the well being of people.

  • Jack :( why you no live anymore?

  • @johnfredrickson1 So criminals wouldn't profit like they do now and addicts wouldn't steal as much and billions wouldn't be spent on a war on drugs that is and will forever be a failure

  • Jack Layton was the Luke Skywalker of Canada. In the words of Obi-Wan-Kenobi He was our last hope.

  • Hey, if you and a couple friends just feel like sitting inside and chilling out, and it aint bothering anyone else what right does the government have to say "no you cant do that"?

  • @johnfredrickson1

drug dealers are the real "gateway", it is less addicting and damaging than alcohol, and tobacco. Hard drugs like cocaine or heroin should be illegal

  • why is it that every canadate that trys to make it legal dies?

  • @kushkush45 Elizabeth May isn't dead.

  • Canada is not ready for legalization because of our poor education. I've worked and supervised an endless amount of pot-smokers and they are all sensitive cry-babies. Adults in their 30's and 40's that have tantrums over almost anything. Clearly it affects them emotionally after a period of time. Yet, they are the first ones to say “it’s perfectly harmless and natural”. They defend it not 10 min. after having a mental breakdown. I’m talking like 30 cases, not 2.

  • @honestpagan1 And they would not be cry babies without taking pot? I know literally hundreds of users and can think of not one cry baby among them. I know of entire subdivisions built by people high on pot. I know Olympic athletes and Academy award winners and people of all stripes who prefer a little herb to relax and are not cry babies. Do your pot smoking cry babies also drink coffee? Maybe cafeine is the problem.

  • @EattherichBuddy Depends on quantity. Someone who smokes up enough allows their body to adjust and expect the drug. Then they have to smoke it to feel normal. And when they don't get a chance to smoke up they become "sensitive". They even admit it, "Oh man - I ran out of weed 3 days ago, pay day is friday, thank god, I'm going to loose it". I hope it is legalized - I'm just saying everything in moderation and people should be educated about potential downsides.

  • @honestpagan1 Again, not in my experience. There is truth to the saying, "pot will get you through times of no money, better than money will get you through times of no pot." But would there be anxiety at all if people knew there was a safe reliable source that would not disappear after the latest drug bust? Some people have a little on hand that never gets used just to cover that eventuality. Yes, everything in moderation, including moderation.

  • @honestpagan1 I do get a pang when the supply runs low, like when I see there is only one tea bag left or one roll of TP. I have gone without using for months at a time, when I need to cross the border. I know there are times I can't recall things, gapping out so to speak, but my late mom had that problem and never partook of the herb. I asked her when she was in chemo and she refused because of the stigma attached. Score one for the anti-pot forces. May they suffer a similar fate.

  • @EattherichBuddy I guesse I'm saying that, "Pretending things like 'Depersonalization disorder' don't exist will not help legalize it any faster." There are topics that need to be addressed on a nation wide scale before legalization.

  • @johnfredrickson1 That's why you have designated areas like smoking! See how simple that was?

  • RIP !

  • why did he die :(

  • @jordyr77 If someone is abusing a substance, it doesn't only affect them. Especially if many people are abusing it.

  • We will miss you Jack and the world is a great loss now that you have passed on. Cannabis has been the only thing that has brought my epilepsy under control when all other prescriptions I've been given has failed. I hope that someday the government will grow up and see all the benefits that cannabis has to offer because of the cannaboids inside it then stand behind outdated politics that are built on little to no facts.

  • wtf did anybody else notice that the guy who posted this is a conservative??

  • Dope smoking tree hugging left wing, secular NPD Green PArty fools.

  • @skrinkaman Narcissistic right wing drivel... nice!

  • @skrinkaman, Yeah, let's make it a larger criminal offense than raping a child like your main man, Harper..

  • @skrinkaman Alcohol drinking, environment-screwing, right wing religious nutjob Conservative assholes.

Who can't keep their heads out of other people's business, I might add.

  • @johnfredrickson1 "here we have the Green Party encouraging SMOKING" ?? Uhm, what are you talking about? Did you actually _listen_ to what Elizabeth May said? Saying that we don't have evidence that pot is any more dangerous (health-wise) than alcohol or smoking ISN'T "encouraging smoking".

  • @johnfredrickson1 Cool story, I voiced my opinion and I'm not afraid of little squids like you, in fact if you have some balls, why don't you give me your personal address and phone number since your so confident of yourself and we can arrange a pow wow, where I introduce your face to physics and gravity.

  • @johnfredrickson1 either alcohol should be made illegal or pot made legal

  • well as you used my video I must say that both layton and may turned into cowards and did absolutely nothing to help with this issue

may and layton proved to be LIARS !!

  • Let us give change a chance, even without jack, the NDP still represent everything this truly amazing man fought for.

    RIP Jack

  • @johnfredrickson1 As for why all drugs should be legal, It's more effective, and is more fiscally sound, to treat it as a social or mental illness, than to treat it as a "criminal action". Throwing a drug user in the system, only adds more fuel to their illness, making them prone to recidivism. Not to mention the fact that the prisons are filled with drugs anyway, or that violence breeds more violence, thus turning nonviolent offenders into hardened criminals.

  • @johnfredrickson1 The harms of cannabis are actually harms of prohibition. the gateway theory for example; there is no chemical in cannabis, that causes one to desire other drugs, in fact studies show that cannabis use can be effective in the treating of withdrawals. The real "gateway" is that dealers are attracted to the money found on the black market; Cannabis offers a smaller margin than other drugs. Legalize and the link vanishes.

  • Your work here is done Jack. Rest In Peace, you deserve it.

  • R.I.P JACK!

  • Just legalize marijuana already!

Christ almighty, Canada is still in the victorian era.

Legalize it, at least for cancer patients. Wasn't marijuana legal years and years ago, BEFORE big pharma took over ??

Of course, it's all about the money here. Sick sick sick world.

  • @cheeriosinabowl

All about the money? If the government legalized marijuana they'd be making millions a year selling it, so your argument has more than a few holes.

  • @leaf16nut

... no holes! The gov't would make and will make money off everything, that's what they do.

  • @cheeriosinabowl You first state that marijuana should already be legal. Then you ask if marijuana is even legal??????? You my friend should stop doing drugs right now before you become clinically retarded.

  • @chiliconcarne2006

.... did you actually read my post ??? I did NOT ask IF marijuana is legal. Your post is utter nonsense. Goodbye and don't respond.

  • @cheeriosinabowl We do have a... victorian style government...

  • @rangergxi

yes, and unfortunately I don't see the gov't changing anytime soon. Stagnate, corrupt and out of touch with the average person.

  • @johnfredrickson1 no it doesent the thc goes into the users body unless the other person is toking or sitting in the smoke they wont get high and it does no harm at all and about may promoting smoking not being green its a plant no chemicals added its just a plant burning like a forest fire its natural now tobbaco is a plant at first but they add alot of chemicals that fuck the enviornment up weed has killed 0 people in its use though out history

  • @johnfredrickson1 well not so much graduate onto coke but more use it most likly as a result of dealers pushing it on them saying it will get them higher

  • @johnfredrickson1 no scientific evidence that its a gateway drug only 1 in 100 go onto cocaine and second hand weed smoke never bothered anyone its not at all harmful to anyone the worst thing that can result from weed is bronchitis or COPD and thats with chronic everyday use and those illnesses are rare

  • It seems too simple to me, am I missing something? Legalize cannabis, causing a lost source of major income for organized crime, saving taxpayers' money from being spent on law enforcement, and creating an open, transparent, safe and taxable industry.

  • @johnfredrickson1 and no, gateway theory is bullshit, it sounds plausible at first, but it's not, anyone interested in doing coke, will, marijuana isn't what leads to it

  • fear of prison drives addicts underground and that incarceration is more expensive than treatment — so why not give drug addicts health services instead? Under Portugal's drug policy where al drugs have been decriminalized, people found guilty of possessing small amounts of drugs are sent to a panel consisting of a psychologist, social worker and legal adviser for appropriate treatment (which may be refused without criminal punishment),instead of jail, both HIV and deaths from OD have dropped

  • @johnfredrickson1 And cigarettes don't do the same? Also if you did your research and thought about it you'd notice that with alcohol you can't drink publicly. With Marijuana you most likely won't be allowed to smoke publicly, you would smoke in a coffee shop or the privacy of your own home just like in Amsterdam. So that is an invalid arguement. sorry to sound like a douche, its just a really sensitive subject.

  • i always thought layton was a crackpot....now i know for sure!

  • as a fiscal conservative you'd have to be a complete dunce not support legalizing marijuana.

  • @publicsdv yes, but in some cases morals and common sense should prevail over money

  • @johnfredrickson1 good thing using marijuana doesnt step over any of these :)

If it does for any reason, please..do not hesitate to voice your opinion

  • @johnfredrickson1 morals?

I'd like to hear you make a moral argument against marijuana legalization. Or for that matter - a moral argument against allowing sick people to access the medicine they desperately require to lead a half-decent life. I'd like to hear that, but I know it won't happen, because such an argument does not and cannot exist.

  • @publicsdv

Medicinal marijuana is a completely different topic. What Layton is talking about in this video is marijuana for recreational use.

  • Comment removed

  • @johnfredrickson1 What are your views on the recreational use of alcohol and cigarettes? Surely you are opposed to those substances as well.

If not, then you are simply a hypocrite.

  • @johnfredrickson1 i agree common sense should prevail over money and common sense is it should be legalized

  • as much as i hate to ... i have to vote ndp .

  • jack layton is the best
