  • i wish someone would write something beautiful in the comments so i can read it and love it and like them... :(

  • The tempo's too fast, and this is the only video where it actually has an orchestra instead of the piano.

  • Incredibly beatuifu! I can't get enough!!!

  • i didnt know he was French , i think that is cool , because my country isn't reputed for classical music . There is of course Debusy or Charpentier but German and Austrian classical music are wider than french one .

  • @Frenchkisssss Don't forget about Ravel, he's underrated :-) I think it was those Frenchmen who wanted to step up against the likes of Richard Wagner during this era. The results are some of the most beautiful music ever composed

  • I believe in "good" musical tastes. I respect other people's opinions and enjoy a wide variety of music myself but I don't believe modern music should even be labelled as music when it is crated almost entirely by computers, that's not art. The music now is basically all a marketing scheme and has no heart. I won't say literally everything being produced today is bad, there are some underground artists who have true feelings and meaning to their song and many good classical composers.

  • im gunna attempt to ruin the mood and point out that the like bar looks like a blunt!

  • I finally found this song and damn i found this on coincedence :p

  • Beautiful!

  • Janet Jackson made it better in the song "Somebody to call my lover".

  • @judenihal it's a stretch.. but i checked out the song, it's catchy

  • This is by far the best version. Absolutely in love.

  • amazing interpretation

  • beautiful music. almost like it's telling a story

  • Beautiful. It really takes me to another place.

  • Harika bir eser.

  • NOW THIS is music.Yes,we all have different tastes, but honestly, this is real.People like him compossed with their heart and soul, which is a lot more than I can say about ""Artists"" in our generation who just talk about inmoral behavior, etc. They make music that is only made for bad intentions...How can we have gone from something like this,so beautiful and full of passion,to simply down the drain...What a shame. This is why Classical music is and will remain REAL BEAUTIFUL LOVELY,etc for ever*:)

  • @Crystal124562 It's not going down the drain, This was made over 100 years ago. Do you think anyone will remember lady gaga in 2112?

  • @PatrioticGiraffe1 That's awsome

  • I get misty eyed everytime I hear this song lol

  • If music can find you a space from the noise of living; well this is just perfect : )

  • Beautiful song !

    COngretulations!

  • I love these pieces, however I'm a tad disappointed with the beginning strings in this. My feelings is that the strings should linger a bit longer to help set the mood. Their composition seems a bit too upbeat for a musical piece. If the tempo was slowed for that section, this would have been a perfect interpretation.

  • Ive been looking for this pices forever!!!!

  • @2ne1YGwinwin * piece.

  • The soft smile of your child as he looks into your eyes with love, and you cry. The grace of your lovers touch as she yearns to be at one with you, and you cry. The suns reflection on the dew of a rose and the sway of reeds below a stream, and you cry. That feeling that is unique only to you, but you wish someone else would share in it too, and you cry. To know that you had found the one and lost her, and you cry. To know that it will all come to an end and you leave unknown, and you cry and die

  • @onlylexus Sometimes a stranger touches your heart and you cry. Sometimes a stranger paints your feeling so delicate, and you cry. Sometimes you wish you could comfort someone that is unknown and far away, and you cry. Sometimes you hope that beauty will give peace to a soul that seems so sad. Sometimes I wish wishes would come true......

  • @DirkjeA Thank you for your apt reply to my feelings. Perhaps I may not be the stranger that you refer to after all, perhaps we have met in the ether, in the great out there. Sometimes I let music touch me to much and it flows out of me like a river torrent. All I know is that I am not whole at the moment, I wish I were. Pain is overcoming me and Satie is the nearest answer I have, until I regain that which has been taken from me, my son, Elliott. I love you my boy, I always will. Dad x

  • @onlylexus Maybe you are right and our souls did connect somewhere in this cosmos. Only thing I know is that your words touched my heart. Music can never touch one too much I think, it heals the pain in our hearts or gives us comfort at least. I really wish you feel whole again and I hope that your soul gets mended again.

I can't imagine your son wouldnot know your love for him

  • @DirkjeA Ha ha, we will have to stop meeting like this! (Joking) My son is every thing to me, my all! I guess its because I was like his mum and dad too, spent all my time caring for him while she worked. I have made mistakes in my life, I regret them, but not with Elliott, I just love him too much, if that's possible. He knows I love him, I'm sure he loves me too. But some don't actually know what that word means, it's used so easily, some even try to destroy others love for each other, why?

  • @onlylexus You can find out all about love and why others try to destroy love within the New Testament.

Love is what it (life) is all about. We have all continually searched for it and always will.

Try reading the manual of love and life, and learn to love each other properly.

Try reading MATTHEWS GOSPEL it's easy and online!

P.s It will show you however that you you don't know what love is yourself. Worth learning really!!

God Bless at least 1 person that may read this post x

  • @TheOujamaflip Thanks for that. I have read the whole bible from cover to cover many, many times. I have understood the sermon on the mount and the principle of loving our enemies and Turning the other cheek, a thing I have tried to apply my whole life. I am a pacifist by nature, the thought of killing or hurting others I find repulsive. But I let myself down with the anger I feel lately, anger born from others who take delight in hurting others especially children. My child is hurting I know it

  • @onlylexus Sorry it took a while to react, but I did sent a message to your p.m.

    Have a nice day today.

  • @onlylexus Maybe you are right and our souls did connect somewhere in this cosmos. Only thing I know is that your words struck my heart. Music can never touch someone too much I think, it heals the pain in our hearts or gives us comfort at least. I really wish you feel whole again and I hope that your soul gets mended again. I know that day will come, some things just take time. I am sure your son knows how much you love him and knows he is blessed with a father like you.

  • PRECIOSO EN ORQUESTA

  • Hair Restoration Blackrock.

  • Seriously, why is everybody talking about "good" musical taste? Of course we are all here because we like classical music, but is there really something in it why you could possibly call it better then other music, in a subjective way?

I like this music more, but everyone's got his/her own taste in music, and I respect that. Because after all, wouldn't the world be boring when everybody would like the same music?

Just listen to the music you like and enjoy it.

  • @JipvS95 i totally agree as I also like Pop and hiphop but when I want to concentrate i always listen to Classical

but at a party, I mean come on! you wouldn't listen to Classical at a party :)

  • Well, my grave has been marked this week, and there are some things I wanted to tell you before I leave:

Yes, at times I could hear your thoughts...

Yes, at times I could feel your sensations...

Yes, Kim, I know your secret because it is my secret too...

I will gladly let it pass with me, but I wanted you to know that it would have been returned a hundred fold, humbly, and without question. I guess this is the only way I could tell you.

Kim, I wish you the best...

  • A cool thing I learned about this peace was that it was arranged to be performed by an orchestra by Erik Satie's close friend Claude Debussy in 1896. The piece was arranged by Debussy to be performed by an orchestra so conductor Gustav Doret could use it in his concert the following February. Unfortunately, Debussy chose to only orchestrate the first and third Gymnopedies and reversed their order in the process.

  • Im Learning This Song For Orchestra , I Absolutely Adore it <3

  • when my love confessed to me she no longer loved me, I played this song for three hours straight and cried all night. I love you Jazmine

  • Why is it that in other videos for this same song they put freaky pictures

  • I felt like I was flying, flapping my wings ever so slowly, but still somehow able to gain altitude. maybe the marijuana helped.

  • So beautiful. It makes doing my homework so much more enjoyable. :3

  • @JesikkaNicole im doing my homework

  • Such a pleasing, but somewhat haunting melody. One of my favorite pieces.

  • Where Did The Dislike Button Come From?

  • God, this is so beautiful. I feel so melancholy listening to it.

  • Dear OnlyLexus, You inspire me.

  • WONDERFUL =)

  • an angry teenager sometimes posts from this account, that is who you encounterd

  • I think I prefer this on piano to the orchestra

  • this is one of my favourite pieces!

  • i wish i know someone around me who love real music... i fell so lost... sometime.. my girl friend don't like music... i wish 1 day i meet a girl who can play piano like me

  • @reinehcreinehc damb your illiterate as fuck

the irony in this is i most likely misspelled illiterate

  • @supagramster hey english is not my frist language so give me a chance... go learn a second language you retarded.... why do i ever reponce to an stupid guy like you

  • @reinehcreinehc and stupid if you say that about what is happening here, you are supporting blood thirsty terrorists and you don't know it, you stupid fag, go get some knowledge you ass fucker son of a bitch.

  • @TheRightNeutrino i don't understand please explain yourself

  • I created video about owl and the background song is this gymnopedies, as i look at the stats my video were banned in germany because of the song, anyone care to explain? Thx

  • Took me a while to realize that the piano version of this was used in "The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya" movie ^3^

  • I really got into classical through the Russian composers [Tchiakovsky, Rachmaninoff, etc.] and it was like a fire engulfing entire cities. As one of the first French compositions I seriously listened to, it was almost like a light house looking over the sea at night. Beautiful.

  • this is so beautiful.

  • Check out the remix of this song called "To The Sky" On my channel now!!!

  • Indeed it's a really nice orchestra arrangement... but it's agains't the principal purpose of Satie's Music... it's supposed to be minimalist... And simple...

Oh and by the way, @jennyB07 , you are not the only one, im also a teenager who loves Classical Music ^w^

  • Dear onlylexus,

This music is sweet , painful , fragile but also giving us a boost of strenght.

    Greetings, Shirley .

  • Love u lach xxoo

  • alright but better on piano...by miles

  • A little too fast!

  • Amazing music !!!

  • I love this, but I can't seem to find the right version on iTunes. None of them sound quite as sincere as the one in this video. D:

  • I'm only 19, but I just wish the young people of my generation would appreciate the beatiful music that has been brought upon us by magnificent composers through out history. I'm sure many of you can agree that Classical music brings out this tranquil and powerful feeling to our hearts and souls. Thank God!

  • @ivanstacks agreed! Sometimes I feel like i'm the only teenager that listens to classical music instead of the crap that everyone seems to relate to these days.

  • @jennyB07 We're few, but we're here.

    Beautiful music, by the way.

  • @jennyB07

    Agreed!

When someone listens to ANY GENRE other than classical and feels as if the lyrics are poetic and that they can relate to it and that it has a profound message, they're just fucking retarded. Classical is the only good noise ever.

  • @bannanatree

I usually do not do this but there is plenty of poetic music that exist outside of Classical. Many artist that interpret their minds and souls and transform them into music just as beautifully as Satie or even Bach did. Some of these artist do choose a different medium (musically speaking) other than Classical. But you must be able to see the beauty and conceptuality in all works of art. You don't have to like it, no, but appreciate the work itself.

  • @brandnewvsbfs

    I agree 100%, I was being sarcastic :p

  • @brandnewvsbfs This is one of the most kind comments I have ever red on You Tube.I stumbled on this video by accident. But what you say is so true. I can find myself in so many other genres, I will not even mention them, for that is of no importance to others. The fact you so delicately point out that every kind of music, when written or performed from the heart and touching someones soul is worthwhile, brightened up my day and made me feel sure that there are still kind spirits in this world.

  • @jennyB07 you are not alone

  • @jennyB07 Same here!

  • @jennyB07 You are, so shut up.

  • @jennyB07 This is contemporary, actually. Late 1800s. :/

  • @jennyB07 Don't worry, there always have been and always will be people that appreciate good music, whether it is classical or anything else. You'll eventually meet people who have good musical taste

  • @jennyB07 You're not the only one ^^ Heck, all the modern crap gives me a migrane =P

  • @jennyB07 i listen to the crap and this

  • I was intrddouced to 'Erick Satie's music in the 1960's when I was in my teens. By my soon to be husband. i have always been a devoted fan, He restores my soul, He makes me feel alive, He still makes me feel as if I'm back in my eary 20's. He is still alive in my vibration. I love him and his creative, he is untouchable as a master of classic music at it's best!! No one can compare to his quality. God Gless, julliette

  • Listening to this version again, I think it's a bit too fast to really convey the sadness.

  • it's the harps! the harps give debussy away.

this orchestral arrangement was is debussy's, he has met satie and had contact with him for some time... thank you, great componist.

  • To me, this is one of the most affecting, beautiful pieces of music ever performed. It's amazing because you feel the deep, deep sadness but also the hope that, eventually, the sadness will go away. To me, it is a musical manifestation of the infinite love of God and the fragility of our existence. Take care, onlylexus.

  • @Ghoopty

It is beautiful but I disagree. I think Adagio for Strings is the most affecting piece of music ever composed.

  • i'm in love with the intro

  • youtubers are so pretentious

  • @moderjoker Is it pretentious to have emotions?

  • @Ghoopty It is pretentious to express them. And gay.

  • @moderjoker I believe you just showed everyone what an immature idiot you are. Congratulations.

  • There is no way you can have no respect to a man who had this melody in his head.. every note you hear came from this mans mind and its beautiful.. It reminds me of the universe and our small planet when i hear this.

  • my heart goes out to "onlylexus". I know what it feels like to loose someone you love dearly, i couldnt imagine how you feel, but im happy that Satie's music has helped you through your darkest hours, and guided you towards the new day.

It's funny, how what seems to be such, simple, music, can have such a wonderful effect on people. it makes me want to hug my worst enemy, and let bygones be bygones.

hopefully i can show other people this art :) peace

  • This man is a musical genius. And that is an understatement.

  • It's rather sad that people nowadays would rather prefer pop music over something as glorious as Erik Satie. The fact that this video has only been watched a small fraction of something as shallow as 'Justin Bieber' only shows that there is only a small group of people with superior music taste left.

Please everyone that is able to appreciate music as Erik Satie, make sure you know the difference between wrong and right.

  • great song! sorry to go off topic but anyone here watch fma? doesn't parts of this song sound a lot like some of the soundtrack from fma? for example the very beginning?

  • Comment removed

  • i always seem to want to play Mother 3 after hearing this.

  • It is always wonderful to listen to this music.

    Michael the Greek

  • that incredible man, I can feel like he feel the feelings the sadness and sorrow, the pain and the peace...

  • pain is beauty

  • great man

  • Wasn't this actaully arranged by debussy after satie's death?

  • @jimmiratsfield Yes indeed

  • @jimmiratsfield The problem is that Debussy died before Satie ^^ So it would be rather difficult for mister D. :P

  • @BMperc22 I can see that would be a problem:

Should have really checked it out first but thanks for the correction.

  • @jimmiratsfield

    verily!

  • Beautiful... Simply Beautiful, provoking, and ever so serene. NOW THATS MUSIC! The

  • "Furniture music" describes this piece very nicely. Though incredibly beautiful, it fits nicely into the background when doing something else. Makes studying almost worth it...

  • it feels sad... but at the same time very nostalgic, like if you regreted a world that never existed and this music let you see a glimpse of it. I wish this song nerver ended...

  • Tuti ő is magyar volt! Habár ez nem is lehet kérdés, mert mi találtuk fel a világban a jó dolgokat, és aki mást állít, az halál fia.

  • This song i so so so Beautiful !

  • Beautiful, sad, haunting, yet relaxing.

  • everyone's so morose... i find this to be one of the most uplifting songs i've ever heard. it's calm, beautiful, and serene in way i can't really describe.

  • @icannotfly ...i just find it calming. definitely not sad. not this one, anyway.

  • Supreme !! Very emotions

  • Hauntingly beautiful and sad, one of my favorites. xx

  • music can help ease the pain but ultimately, in time the same music will just make you remember the pain.

  • Elegant Simplicity.

  • @onlylexus You and Satie made me cry warm tears. We all will rejoin our beloved who passed away some day, in the meantime music can heal our pain.

  • this would such a good piece to have playing in the background ; P

I become a plumb and with each note I watch him bite into it and my heart is taken and for another and another

    I love Gymnopedie

  • i am learning to play this on the harp. so hard!!!!

  • i came across this when listening to the "Classical Music for Relaxation" playlist i've been using to help me focus when studying, and every time this song comes on, my world stops a little bit.

  • I love it!!!

  • Is this the Debussy orchestration?

  • If you could feel as I do then you will know that I somehow bear the worlds pain when I listen to this music. I feel the sorrow of the whole planet, I feel the serenity of peace, I feel the love of the whole planet. But mostly I feel the loss of my child Elliott. I love you my boy. I love you. Your Dad. Paul. x

  • @onlylexus I came across this orchestral piece when looking for piano music, and I read your comment and became emotional. I am sorry for your loss. It is a beautiful piece of music and I am attempting to learn the piano version. I wish you only good things in your future.

  • @Jakekira Dear friend. You make me happy that you choose such wonderful and meaningful music as Erik Satie's to learn. He has been a precious part of my whole life, without Satie I would have been lost. I thank you from the depth of my soul for your comforting words in regard to Elliott, my son. I sense you have a good heart and that love flows in you, may that spirit continue to exsist in you. To hate is so easy to do, but to love, to really LOVE, well now that takes real effort. Peace. Paul.

  • @onlylexus You a vegan paul?

  • @richeification Hello Rich, how are you today? You ask if I am a vegan? The true answer to that is no not really, no. But lately I do not eat much meat at all, and trying to cut down on it, I know it doesn't do us any good but I have to say I adore fish. But why do you ask? If you find a bit of that falling satellite that just came back to earth, can I have it? Regards Paul.

  • @onlylexus Hi Paul, i'm fine pal thanks, you? Well i was reading a comment you posted previously, can't seem to find it now. But your words had so much love and good feelings in it projected to the person you were commenting to, sensing that you have a natural care not only for that person, but the world....it flows from you. I think the term for this is Biophiilia, meaning love of nature. This is common among vegan people.

  • @onlylexus

No words for you.. . there aren't words for your pain.Your pain is crossing the entire universe and will be not unheard . But will came a day in witch you'll join your child ,and it will be forever. Belive me !

  • @onlylexus Dear Unknown Friend Paul, I am painter, I was unable to express the character of an illfated prince, Sanctus Emericus. Your pain inspired me to finish the painting. I know that I cannot comfort you, only the Holy SÍpirit can, but you must know we love you, we who has some imagination of what soul is. Sincerely DRTG

  • @Nacoxcon My dear friend DRÓTOS TÓTH GÁBOR, I am priveliged to have seen your beautiful and moving paintings, I looked at all of them with wonder and some pain. I know that you have a good heart and you have a skill from God himself. To know that what I wrote helped you to finish your painting brings me great joy, you have brought me some happiness in what you wrote and in your art. I wish you much peace and love in your life. Music is my only escape from the pain I am in. Thank you brother.

  • @Nacoxcon wow, it's really nice !

  • @onlylexus This is beautiful.

  • @onlylexus, beautiful.

  • @onlylexus that's totally beautiful

  • @tomcornhole I thank you Tom for your finding my writing beautiful, (as you put it). Eric Satie was a composer of the most remarkable and melancholic music that transcends any description. There are no words that convey how his work gets to my heart or my feelings. I am inspired by something very special in the soul of the man and his ability to cut through all genre of music. it is an art so sublime that one can only sense it emotionally, trying to explain it leaves me inadequate. Satie is ALL

  • @onlylexus it was just a beautiful sentiment...there is heart rending passion and beauty in lots of other composers' pieces as well, but certainly Satie is a cut above the rest

  • Comment removed

  • @tomcornhole Yes Tom you are correct, there is many other greats that have that magic too, "Arvo Part's spiegel im spiegel" "Barbers Adagio" They have something that gets to the nature of what we are as humans. But I always get back to Satie, I guess he helps me through the day, I see my son in my minds eye when his music plays, I dream, don't we all? Peace to you Tom, and let music be the bringer of all that is good in your life, if only humans would obey it's message, I will try also.

  • @onlylexus these tones, in their essence, will stay with your heart and soul when you leave this sphere, they are ingrained into the very atoms of the energy that makes you human.so refreshing to hear truth spoken about beauty, in this often hateful and confusing medium known as the internet

  • Comment removed

  • @TheRightNeutrino I feel so very sorry for you my friend that you would want to harm my child and me. I think you need some help, if I could I would help you myself. Your heart must be full of such hatred to say such an evil thing. Please think about your life, it is so easy from where you are to be terrible to your fellow humans, any fool can hate, that is so easy to do. But, to love, to really LOVE, that takes real effort. You give in to your own self loathing, I am sorry for you. Peace to you

  • @onlylexus Wow, you are such a FAG.

  • @onlylexus and stupid if you say that about what is happening here, you are supporting blood thirsty terrorists and you don't know it, you stupid fag, go get some knowledge you ass fucker son of a bitch.

  • @TheRightNeutrino Your words tell me what you are like as a human, I shall not speak as you do. I can only feel great sorrow for you. I can tell that you have much to learn, But I will not be able to teach you anything. You must continue down your own path of hate. Your evil words do not hurt me, but if you were to look into your own soul, you would know that you are only hurting your own humanity. You have my pity my friend. I wish you much peace. I shall not speak to you again, I waste my time

  • maybe someone knows my "unknown piano classical" on my channel - seems to be Satie but not for sure.

    thanks

  • 12 people don't have ears

  • muito bom...

  • wonderful

  • je la jouait au violon,

    c'est aussi beau que déprimant

  • Seule la musique de Satie prend le temps d'expliquer

  • This is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.

  • i love it *-*

  • Is this in a movie?

  • @kliudrsfhlih

I don't know if THIS version (arranged by Debussy) has been played in a movie, but a different version is played in a wonderful movie by Kim Ki Duk called 'Samaria'. It's really worth it!

  • This is really good. I honestly prefer the piano version though.

  • Man and a woman.Mother and her child.Butterflies in the morning.Fields of lilies.YOU and I.

All that and so much more is this song...

  • @nakedBison69 Nice try but nobody buys your story. Between you and Ahmadinejad, I'm not sure who is more nuts. You probably won't answer it but can you explain how I am making a joke out of the Torah and how I am a self-hating Jew - this I gotta hear. I especially like the part about the socialist Obamaniacs. You would be funny if you weren't so dangerous for Israel's future.

  • So beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have this on CD. I play it on a continuous loop over and over again. It is an unending beauty. ♥'Nessa

  • This is my favorite Satie piece. So beautiful and poignant.
