Regarding 5 or 6 generations, it seems likely that there ARE thousands of exmo descendants, but there are a few factors confounding that.
1) Some exmos loose the compulsion to breed in order to replenish earth population, hence future generations of exmos might be smaller than those of mormons
2) Mormon roots can become non-representative or undesirable to exmos so they blend into society
3) Exmo family members sometimes become pariah to believers who then eschew association with the exmo

After 5 or 6 generations from Brigham Young you would think there would be thousands of his decendants that left the church. Today, maybe 2 or 3 dozen? I know many "Youngs" and they are all very proud of Brigham. They think he is a god.
