It's cause of the gritty nature of both games. Gears is like this only less cartoonish. Gears is dark and grimy, and the people all look muscular and the way they walk appears similar. I like this look in games with alot of violence. It adds to it. I think the... harshness of the gears world is part of why people love it.

u raise a good point, and in one way ur rite. the ad for GoW1 that had "Mad World" was (and in my opinion, still is) the greatest ad for a video game of all time, in the sense that i portrayed the emotion of the game quite clearly. however, when the song is used for this game,"Mad World", it gives a dark, morbid, slightly creepy contrast to the near mindless violence of the game. i feel that this was prototype's reason for making this...or he just thot it would be cool. either way, its good.

Reminds me more of manhunt though, where you use everything to kill your foes in gruesome ways - and don't have a 'normal' weapon.
