@hedgepigs trust me you don't have to worry about anyone puttin bad comments on that. Everyone that was an incredible player, and I admire that you would be able to take in the beauty of jazz. I feel bad for those who can't, cuz they don't know what they're missing...
Dizzy discovered Sandoval and admired Sr. Sandoval's greatness at the trumpet.
the little island of Cuba had produced some of the greatest musicians including Paquito de Rivera, Beny More and so many. If you go to the Old Havana, in every corner you find people playing with very old unkept instruments, and playing great music
Please people, just ignore james9533. Arguing with him only further inflates his ego and self-loathing, besides the fact you are giving him the chance to plague the comment section of this chunk of history and pure art.
I dont think James even understands how a trumpet works, basically hes playing in a certain key improvising at like 5 notes a second or some insane shit, as for lil wayne having a grammy, hes repeating a written string of words with a beat behind it. this guys creating music as he plays, let me see Lil Wayne free style as fast as he was just playing

This is 2 minutes of fucking nonsense. Sorry, but it is. Maybe Arturo would've been better off if he HAD invested what little money he had in a private lesson teacher
@James9533 Lol and whats your idea of music, rap? Don't make me laugh faggots who can't make their own beat in the background so they use the computer what a joke listen to real music like this stuff and other greats dumb ass.
@James9533 great post! you must play with yourself alot when you read all the responses you get. you are definitely the finest troll i've seen on youtube. is there an award we could find for you to stick up your ass?
@James9533 dude, just stop hating. it wont make this man any less of an amazing trumpet player. i dont even play trumpet and i know how hard it is to do what he does. i want lil wayne to try to do ANYTHING like this on the spot. cause thats what arturo is doing here, improvising, or if you dont know what that means, he is making up what he plays on the spot, which takes years of practice ON YOUR OWN IN A BAND TO DO. no private instructor could help him with that.
@James9533 Aha if you think this is "easy" record yourself doing it exactly as shown. Can't? Don't hate on talent you can't have. I challenge you to record yourself doing this. I challenge you. I WANT to see you do it, Mr. This-is-crap. if it's crap you should have no trouble playing it.
What the fuck would you know faggot? I listen to REAL fucking trumpet players like Maynard Ferguson, Freddie Hubbard, Wynton Marsalis, Louis Armstrong, Ryan Kisor, Lee Morgan, Tom Harrell, James Morrison and many other mother fuckers you probably don't even know.
You're just a nerdy fucking Asian who plays the fucking recorder. Suck a dick you middle school faggot.
I really like this solo, except I don't think half of it fits in with the music. It all sounds nice in itself, but the phrasing is just so awkward. That's why I love Claudio Roditi's features so much more in this performance than Sandoval's. He is able to connect all of his thoughts and ideas together while tying it with the mood of the piece of music as a whole. To me, it sounds much better in the end than Sandoval playing really high notes while having his fingers fly all over the place.
@LateNightSnack1 Maybe, but - and I expect I'll get hammered by all the Sandoval fans out there for this - I personally think the bass solo that follows is much more musical than Arturo's pyrotechnics, if you can get to see it. That said, I'm a bassist, so I'm biased :o) Arturo is a badass trumpet technician, no question, but I prefer Roditi's musicality every time. Love what he (Roditi) does at the end of this track, sadly you can't hear it on this video.

does anybody legit know what type of mouthpiece he plays? I know that there are repliques and ones like the bobby shew commemorative piece, but I want to know what he legit plays as his lead piece.
I'm not trying to sound like an ass, but I kinda found it how dizzie was completely lost at 1:30 so everyone had to play twice as loud (and in arturos case twice as high) to cover it up. Not being an ass, its just nice to see that even legends can mess up once in a while. I think thats what makes music so beautiful that it never stops becoming a challenge.
@xDiArtsx Also at 0.52 where Arturo plays a bad note and gets mad at himself. (you can see it in his face and gesture). To me hitting a wrong note every now and then lets me know that the musician is truly improvising fron the soul and creating on the fly as opposed to just replaying some rehearsed runs and scales.
@parks1993 He was playing the coda which is used as the send off to the solo break which then starts the first or next solo, but the rest of the band wasn't using the same one as in the head. The send off at 0:01 and the one 1:30, but dizzy played the one from the start. Anyway Im not a dissing Dizzy in any shape or form. I think we all know he is a legend among legends. To me he is a man I admire a lot and have been inspired by his early playing and compositions like many others.
Arthuro Sandoval is in my opinion the best trumpet player in the world ...
