They are from Canada and some of them live on a nice quiet Island (SaltSpring) off of Vancouver Island and live a nice peaceful life.....wish I were there.
Sure it's Keith Moon from Who and BTO was one of my first American Bands I listened to in the early 70s. And Not Fragile the first LP my sister bought. Hell the guys had been so great - greetings from Europe!
This group was BEST on stage. Saw them at HIC arena 1973/74. So far, they are the ONLY band that I've seen do FOUR encores..place was rockin'...indeed!!
My old high school band played this... saxophones, trumpets, 2 guitars(non overdrive), no singer, it was awesome, this does not satisfy my need for epic from my awesome band and teacher :(
I saw BTO on the 1975 tour - the opening band was Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band. I saw BTO again in 1976 - the opening band was Heart. At the 1976 show, I plopped down on the front-center stage and somehow security let me stay there for the entire show.
This was 1974, argumentaly the beginning of metal rock. Priest surfaced with ACDC in the late 70's, historians like to point toward punkrock, but these boys were effectively producing a sound that is distinctly rock, and All-American.
@PaintedDemon Except that they're Canadian, not American. as in they are from Canada, not the States. i'm not trying to start an argument, but for once, let Canada have some pride in itself... otherwise all we're left with is shit like Nickleback and Simple Plan. Please... just let us have this (and Rush)
@oranganewton When I think of Canadian popular music, I think of a range of artists across the 40 years that I have been enjoying it. Some of you young folks will not know about the artists of the 60's, 70's, & 80's, but there is a lot of great Canadian music if you will look for it. Here are some great Canadians: Bachman Turner Overdrive Rush Neil Young The Guess Who Alanis Morissette, Shania Twain Ian & Sylvia Anne Murray Joni Mitchell Steppenwolf April Wine Celine Dion
@bboucharde No shit. Canada's put out an amazing amount of great music. Ontario, Quebec, Vancouver, Alberta each could go toe-to-toe with California, New York, Texas, or Ohio in the '60s and were no slouches in the hard rock, prog, punk, new wave departments. Quebec's had some amazing metal bands and the french language garage scene in the '60s was more rocking than anything that actually came out of France at the time.
@TheMagmagoblin Right on! And, in my earlier list, I left out Guy Lombardo (from the 1940's, for the older generations--but very good big-band music) and then much later, in the power rock genre, Lover Boy. Then, I must include Aldo Nova, Anvil, Mahogany Rush, Triumph, and Helix. A lot of very satisfying music by great musicians!
@vinnynumbnuts Ironic that he's such a good lead player. The song and the singing are great, but the lead playing isn't something you'd expect from a brawler. The lyrics are fin hilarious, too. ah, the 70s were all about the FUN.
@TheRealCritique i wouldn't say he was an active punk-ass brawler like certain individuals i use to know, but i know randy was certainly the dominant alpha-male type who lifted heavy weights on his time off back then, and when on tour, the other band members were always trying to tip toe past him in the hotels. he certainly had a control over them that they were reluctant to challenge. the bar thing i spoke of was just my imaginings and feel for the guy as being someone not to mess with.
@TheRealCritique my old man's bar (Camp 6) back in the seventies was pretty rough--so rough, in fact, he had to get rid of the bouncer because he was getting beat up pretty bad. i was 14 years old then, and after the bar'd close, i'd go in and play BTO on the juke box for free. ha ha! they were the days, me boy...and p.s., randy was nothing compared to e. hemingway.
first live band I ever saw - I was about 11 y.o. We were on hols from UK in Canada - saw them in ottawa . A great first gig for me and my brother, and we were then allowed to go see gigs in UK after that ..so a big THANK YOU to BTO & to Canada for that - changed my teens , in a really good way :))). Thanks.for posting
I remember the debut of this song. It was a welcome change. After a few of years of listening to hippy, peace, love, dope, it was nice seeing and hearing some men for a change.
it's rough tough rock n roll--these boys aren't pretty and they don't mean to be! use to hear BTO on the juke box in my old man's bar all the time back in the seventies.
Man oh man is that some killer shit. These cats tear it up! Randy Bachman is a guitar monster. Sounds like the drummer might have dropped a false ending about eight bars early, but he picked it up again real quick! It's the mark of stage vets-- you can make a mistake and the audience doesn't really figure it out. "Hey, I play it that way every time!"
A former neighbour of ours had a garage band and they used to do this song. They'd get together in the park on a Saturday night and belt it out.. It was great. Brought back good memories for a lot of us.
Like Burton Cummings said during the Guess Who reunion tour in the late 90's, "Randy Bachman made so much money from this song he was able to buy himself an island just with the money from this song!" rock on Randy!
@LORNASAND Canada has many great rock bands that we here in the great big middle part of North "AMERICA' have listened to for years with much pleasure. However......We here in the middle part of North "AMERICA" don't still take orders from England. Ooooooooooooh. Just kidding Canuck. You guys are great neighbors and we'll always be here to protect you. Bada Bing!!!
@Twom44 Protect? Nope we Canucks can take care of ourselves.. 6 of our beers your drunk and passed out. Americans only like sparkley bands, no more true musicans there...however I must say watch this year Idol even though that hurts me to say so....amazing talent.. never knew you had it in you. Hey btw keep that president you have, he is almost normal.
@LORNASAND Ouch... That one hurt! You had to get me with the president one huh? I hate when that happens. No matter what I say to you , you'll always be able to slap me in the head with the "President". Just so we are clear here, he is not EVEN ALMOST NORMAL. You know something? As long as he is president, Canada is looking better and better to me. I might have to become a "president dodger". At least you have a good sense of humor. Have one of those beers on me Canuck!
@ryac259 Rush is on a whole different level but BTO is sick along with April Wine, Triumph etc. Nickelback isnt
that bad, not something i enjoy but theyre ok, but shit like Drake, Justin Bieber and Down with Webster is like having the whole country's pants pulled down in front of the whole world. Embarrassing!
Keith Moon introducing BTO? WOW. Yeah, man, you're not a real band unless you can perform the same LIVE as you can in studio (unless it's all meant for studio, which can be ok) -- What did Kiss, BTO, the Ramones, and the Clash all have in common? They performed live and counted their fans the number one reason for being around. Who can not like this song? Thanks for the memory (never saw them live, but saw Kiss and the Clash -- they ruled).
These guys were fantastic,,,,sending chills down my backbone, from when concrete rockn roll was born, think I was thirteen when they launched their first album here in Denmark, ít woke something in me, I recall
I feel like comparing music like this to music like miley cirus or whatnot is ridiculous, its more appropriate to compare it to modern rock, which is equally as awful. If you're lucky you can hear what their saying over the unnecessary quadruple bass and terrible distortion, this is real music. Real, quality and enjoyable.
Bachman and Turner concluded the Grey Cup half-time show with this tune today. It was freezing cold in Edmonton, but they still remember how to rock! Great show.
BTO makes me feal like a real man; raw and hard rcok and roll, compared to todays ameerican idal bent over clear to the ground, sucking on corptirte dick garbage, filth and rot...
@pcfxer I GUESS so!! I actually seen them in the Sault! when I was in highschool! It was awesome!! We were able to see Trooper, Kim Mitchell...So cool!!
I had this on 8 track, when it first came out.It brings back some of my most wonderful memories. My little 4yr. old daughter(now 40) climbing the shelves to get it down every day.And rocking out when I played it. This IS Rock nRoll. This is timeless!
Can't imagine what it would be like to be on the road all of the time! There is a reason why they call it,"home sweet home'! Love this song and love to take care of business!!!!!!!!
@SpykerZaggato84 Now I've seen it all, people don't care about their comment or the video they just care how many thumbs up they get so now they're asking for thumbs up..................................thumbs up if you agree.
@Bellyflops2 Most don't have a clue. They think its a non stop party, which is what we want you to see. Its nice to be able to sleep in a bed that isn't going 80mph. Its nice to have holidays with your family. Its nice to wake up and not have to go to a radio station a book signing a lunch with the promoter, any of this sound like fun? I'm not talkin once in a while but everyday or close. Life on the road sucks, but see'in your fans is EVERYTHING.
I was 11 years old when this was filmed. Whew.... time is relentless! Actually, I've been working on no thing for quite a while now. Getting somewhere too... I think :o
They are from Canada and some of them live on a nice quiet Island (SaltSpring) off of Vancouver Island and live a nice peaceful life.....wish I were there.

@ralphyization Where the heck are you from?!?! It was like -6 tops.... it was a pretty warm day in Edmonton.

I had this on 8 track, when it first came out.It brings back some of my most wonderful memories. My little 4yr. old daughter(now 40) climbing the shelves to get it down every day.And rocking out when I played it. This IS Rock nRoll. This is timeless!

Bellyflops2 1 year ago
@Bellyflops2 Most don't have a clue. They think its a non stop party, which is what we want you to see. Its nice to be able to sleep in a bed that isn't going 80mph. Its nice to have holidays with your family. Its nice to wake up and not have to go to a radio station a book signing a lunch with the promoter, any of this sound like fun? I'm not talkin once in a while but everyday or close. Life on the road sucks, but see'in your fans is EVERYTHING.
