Ever On, Dan will indeed "Let It Shine!"always & forever by the amazing music he shared w/ us while here, his traveling to give us the honor of attending his amazing performances~Dan just gave so much. He will always be with me as long as my ears are able to hear his music. Loved him since his first album in the '70's; will love this amazing musician, song-writer, man, forever. Yes, Dan, you will always!~"Let It Shine!" Simply incredible. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Never got to see Dan, but he's seen me through every sad time, happy time, break-up, loss of loved one... since 1972 (when I was 15)... timeless, heartbreaking, hopeful, his songs still make me cry.
Its funny that Dan thought he had to tell the audience the words to the chorus. Hah-hah!! Dan ... we've known those words since you first put them on vinyl in 74!
Truly, a magician with the spoken word; a seamstress with the strings of a guitar.
After 2 hours of playing, the band is still playing their hearts out. Dan's voice at 6:00 is stronger than ever. Thank you, pre10der. "Let It Shine" is indeed! "Dan's Song Only". What an amazing live performance, along with your wonderful pictures of Dan. He will always! Let It Shine through his many gifts of music to us. A trillion plus votes up for this!
Great video/slide show. I love this song. The first time I saw Dan play in concert I didn't even know who he was. Some friends invited me - I asked the question "what does he sing that I know?" I was a wise ass 15 year old at the time. Anyway - I went and was swept off my feet a little more with every song he sang. The band "Fools Gold" was the warm up and they joined him at the end of the show. Did 3 encores and as I now know is tradition sang this last. Have been a fan ever since. :0)
@cricket61161 Isn't it great to "grow-up" with The Best Musician, not to metion a wonderful man? So glad you were introduced to him. Me too; never had heard of him and was given his first album as a gift. I was instantly a Dan Fan. He was, his music to us still is, a gift.
we saw Dan in the 1980's in Tampa Florida when he was on a solo acoustic tour, don't quite remember the year but I remember singing along with him and 5000 other people on this song. It was an honor to have seen him perform.
Thanks for posting this. I was checking Jim Croce songs and then a link for Dan came up and I have been discovering this other great man, Dan, ever since. Why don't I hear these great songs on the radio? Thanks to Dan, and the one who posted this, and all the comments that have been added
I think the Earth Mother and all of her creatures could use a little hope in this day and age. Sounds just like Dan. Thanks for all your great posts and videos of Dan. I still miss him so much. 5*
Thank you for this. Geat pictures of Dan. After performing for 2 hours, his voice is still as awesome as always. How I miss him. Thank you, Dan, for all of the wonderful music you created while here, that will keep you with me forever. As always,
The studio version of this song was used as a musical background at the beginning and at the end of the television transmissions/telecasting of the Winter Olympic Games at Innsbruck, Austria, 1976. Because of having watched those Games I happened to know about Dan Fogelberg, a great songwriter/singer. (hey, hey, listen to that beautiful song). R.I.P. In Mexico some know about his great career and performances. (From Guadalajara, Medxico).
i am a illinois boy my self and miss dan very much his music has always been with me everytime i get home sick i play illinois on guitar tears come to eye loved him but his music will always shine ty
It hurts to know he had to leave us so soon..he was an amazing singer songwriter with such a purpose in his life. He will be deeply missed by countless fans and loved ones.
do you know a new CD Love In Time , a collection of songs chosen by Dan before his passing is being released on his birthday August 13th!!! Check it out on his official website and pass the word along!!!
Bob Dylan Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen are song and dance men (entertainers first, artists second) Jackson Browne is an artist (musician /poet) none of these are in the league with Dan Fogelberg, to say he was underated would be is only a testimony to the appitite we have for entertainment and gimmicks. Dan needed no gimmicks his entertainment value was in the art he conveyed, he read our souls back to us and put it to music. Ill miss him he IS the best!
I think that Dan Fogelberg is one of the most underrated artist, I mean as a singer, as a guitar player and a composer, here in Europe. This live version of Let It Shine! is a great one. What the audience! Simply, they were taken important part in this performance. I love the most Dan's LP "Windows & Walls" because there are many remarkable songs like: the title song, Tucson, Arizona, Sweet Magnolia, Believe In Me, Language Of Love. I remember live version of Old Tennesse.
I was shocked, heartbroken when I learned of Dan's death. My first love song had been erased from my memory until now, a song from my first love, Michael Smith. Have no idea what happened to him. Anyway, he gave me this song on a cassette, and used to sing me the part "of a woman". After we broke up, I continued to listen to it, but had to stop because of the pain. Now, it all comes back again, 31 years later. But it was worth it: I got to know Dan through my grief. RIP
After the tribute concert in Sellersville, Pa, where the performers closed the show with all of us singing this song, I can't sing along without choking up! It was such a beautiful, emotional moment, one I know I'll never forget! Thank you so much, Dan, for all your magic! Let it shine!
WOW, what a song. I feel that he was referring to God through this song, which brings me the comfort that only God could bring through this great singers song. Thanks for the posting. Will always and forever be a fan of this wonderful music man. And will keep on sharing Dan's music with the younger generation that must not go through life without the blessing of hearing his music.
Dan Fogelberg's journey was to be immortalized in youth. God, wouldn't had taken him early, if God felt that Dan hadn't accomplished what he set out to do. What he accomplished, which seems short in time, would taken most a lifetime to do. Thanks for the special tribute to Dan. Great job!
When I first heard of Dan's death I had trouble with dealing with it and accepting it. It took Dan's music to help me come to terms with it, when I was able to listen again. What you have written here is so eloquent. Dan did accomplish more than most ever will...he gave so much of himself, yet was true to himself in the giving. We are all blessed to have been living when Dan was...
yes, I remember that too..at the end of his shows. Usually for the encore. He was so generous with his time/energy when in concert. Saw his last tour. : (
A great lift you up song!
