Hi, i have just rescued a 9 month old kelpie x, she doesn't respond to her name and she is very timed (just wondering what we could do to help her learn her name?) I also have a 2 year old alaskan malamute which is in dog training and is at the top, she is good doing the off-lead recall and loves going to the beach. Im afraid that if i let her off lead she will run and never come back. PLEASE HELP WITH SOME IDEAS thankyou so much :)
Wow! I wish we had these locally. We are NOT allowed to have leashes in our 'off leash' parks. I think the fear is leash aggression. Sadly, there are many out of control dogs (and owners that ignore or don't know there dog is doing unacceptable behaviors like rude greetings) that visit these and not a good place to try to retrain reactive dogs, even after much work with dog on dog interactions. This looks like it would be great-relaxed responsible handlers and relaxed dogs!
@supernaturalbc2009 - you know I tend to not visit dog parks at all, because most have no management and there seems, in our area anyway, no personal accountability for you or your dogs actions. I put way to much training into my dogs to let someone who doesn't care enough blow it for me. When I come across a dog park that actually has rules and is managed I find it so enjoyable, and I know I am more relaxed as are the folks around me.
@nancyspore Me entiher for exactly that reason, but last year they started using the forested park across the street as one. Now we get people from all over the city using it instead of just local dogs we know. I use the back areas to avoid the unknown dogs but sadly we don't get to see Jessie's regular buddies anymore.
@dehbee - there are about 10 dogs out in the park and some are off leash playing. This dog park has a clear rule - If your dog is not under 100% voice control they need to be on a leash. When introducing a new environment to my dogs, I never choose the 'high' time when the distractions are too much, we work up to that. This was his first time working in a dog park environment and we were working on focus.
Just found this one, Nancy, and what you say and show are so true. We have a dog park near us that used to be a great, safe place for us to go play. Maui and I spent her 1st year and a half playing there every early morning and late evening. But it has evolved into one that is no longer this way, and, sadly, we don't go anymore. All of the others seem to have evolved into this same "decay".
love the song+really pretty dog!! great catch at 1:50!! my 30 lb Besenji+60 lb Basset love the dog park!!! and its great cuz they r great off leash and love other dogs!!!

@nancyspore if all the dog parks in my area had those rules, they would all be empty.
