Man, water awareness is one of those things that everyone seems to miss. Waterfowling, fishing, ect, requires you to be working in and around water all the time. Ive went in a few times. But really, the only reason water kills is lack of education and training. Its just water. I never really became confident in my water skills until I started spearfishing/freediving habitually.
Another bit of advice from experience... Try to avoid fallen trees across the water.. you will be forced under the tree and may get trapped or caught on limbs while under water... I almost lost my sister and her hubby this way when they were canoeing.
Speaking from a few decades of SAR work and body recovery, you are giving very solid advise.
The clothes may have been found many miles downstream but I'll bet almost anything the body will be found within 400 yards of where she went in. This is just from experience working my piece of the world here on the Texas area.
I hope she is alive, many have been found in trees alive days later.
thanks so much for the knowledge, should this ever occur, I'll know what to do, so in advance, thanks for saving my life.
