Just made these tonight using some bread I made last week! YUM! (I made a basic white bread but added italian seasoning in the dough).. Definitely going to make again, THANK YOU!!!
I have a question. Why do we have to use stale bread? Can't we use a regular fresh loaf of bread to make these? Sometimes a loaf of bread is on sale for a buck. Do I have to let the bread sit for a few days to make it stale? Or can one use a fresh loaf of bread?
@MelodyLubart123 You can certainly use fresh bread, it's just takes a little more time to slice. Stale bread cuts a little easier because it's not so delicately fresh. Thanks for asking such a good question.
@katzcradul Its so funny because at first I thought why does she want to know how long they last, and then as I kept eating them I said "now I get it" LOL Thanks again
My wife does the same with the bread ends.....that's why I had to step up my visits to the fat boy bike......dang yummy bread...lol thanks for posting and showing a great use of old bread.....
@vida130 You bet! What an excellent way to store them, however, how to store them has never been an issue in our home....they never last long! Let me know if you try them.
My husband actually prefers the heels of the bread. His mother convinced him they were special because there are only two of them, lol. I cut up our stale bread and dehydrate it. It dehydrates very quickly, less than 30 minutes. I'll try putting some seasonings on them next time. Great tip!
@imstillworkin Kind of reminds me something that happened with my son a long time ago when I was doing Weight Watchers. I was supposed to drink 8 - 8 ounce glasses of water a day. I measured it into a pitcher in the morning and left it sitting on the counter. When I had drank it all, I was done. My son was about 3 years old and he use to plead and cry for 'measured water'. All he knew was that it was special, and he wanted it! So funny.
Your croutons look amazing! I would love to see a napkin tutorial please! :) Perhaps a mini Katzcradul series about table decor? Hahaha! Nonetheless, the croutons look fantastic!
This is a great idea. Not only will this allow you to use up leftover bread, these croutons will probably taste better than any you've ever had. And don't worry if you don't have these exact spices handy. I made them with many different combinations and they're always delicious.
That is a good tip Katz. This is what we did when I worked for the school cafeteria system. We saved the rolls and bread that did not get served either used the stand mixer grinder to make it into bread crumbs or cut into cubes for stuffing. Waste not Want Not....
Looks yummy. My diet doesn't allow me to have croutons at this time but if I could, I'd love to make them. We used to put the heels of the bread into the freezer and make bread pudding when we had enough. Another yum. oh, I would love to see a video on the napkin fold...very pretty. Suzi

I made some, and yum yum. They lasted 1 meal and a snack a few hours later. How do you keep them longer when they are so yummy?

I make croutons all the time with Italian baguettes, I agree that they taste so much better than you could ever buy at the store.
