  • Beautiful longboarding. Classic.

  • Thanks; was it '64? The 1st surfer is Valluzzi and the girl is Betsy Twombly. I also rode and built boards for Pat O'Hare, Oceanside, and Catri... in fact I was working at his shop in Melbourne when I started a family and left surfing in '72 after 12 years... started on the beach in Manhattan Bch CA... lived right on the beach. Do you keep in touch with Catri, Prop, Claude and Mike? I live in Lake Placid Florida now and work in public water treatment for the past 35 years. Do still surf?

  • This was in '65 or '66. I am the 4, 5 & 6th surfer - when he says... "oops, almost hit that guy." I was on the Surfboards Hawaii Team with Propper, Catri, Valluzzi, and Tabeling. We up the east coast in 1966. When I moved to Cocoa Bch in 1963 from California, Gary was a good friend. I went to high school with him and Codgen. We would surf in the early morning before class. Propper was the class clown and kept us in stitches. He was also a Golden Glove champion. Great Times- Gary Freeman

  • @gvkf1 Yeah, I think I remember you. I was friends with Tabeling as he spent more time in Indialantic where I lived. Of course, Catri and Murph... who started brevard co. surfing. and the surfboards hawaii team I remember well. My bro had one of those boards. I "borrowed" it one day and it flew of the top of our vw bug on a trip home from uncrowded Sebastion.

  • I think Gary became the producer of the entire

NInja Turtles industry, also the "Frances" books for children. He lives in Hawaii now.

  • True, now he lives on Maui. He did seem a little full of himself. I grew up on Merritt Island and started surfing at the pier. I have a few old photos of him. I had a Bing surfboard and everyone called me Bing. Gary and I ate breakfast one morning at a small diner, not sure which one. He ordered grits and over easy eggs cut up the eggs and mixed them with the grits. I have been doing that ever since, I call it the Gary Propper breakfast. Gary and Claude you can find me on facebook.

  • The place you ate at was Lynn's, small place on A1A and Min, Man , Now it's call Robertos

  • The place you ate at was Lynn's,?? small place on A1A and Min, Man , Now it's call Robertos

  • And the humanitarian award goes to???? Oh what a suprise, all the whiney little bitches talking shit about this talented surfers behavior from about 4 decades ago! Get over yourselves. Disrespecting people on the internet, the new sissy thing to do. If you don't like the guy, don't watch his youtube video!

  • Gary Propper cared about the environment so I kinda think more highly of him. What year was this video taken? I heard the 1968 waves were so big for East Coast Surfing Festival that a lot of surfers refused to go out. True? I always thought it was tricky with the pilings.

PS Looking for memories of Mousetrap,Diamond Gennys,Pier, Moon Hut,

Ramon's etc. Send email if you were there.

  • I was one of the first beach bunnies at the pier along with my sister..gary was full of himself and not as good a surfer as claude codgen byw..

pat o'hare got all those boys started into surfing..fun to watch video..:O)

  • Amen sister..., He was incredibly conceited. And the amazing thing was - he wasn't even THAT cute or anything. What ever happened to Mr Conceited?

  • I grew up there in the 60's and 70's ,,my Pop Retired from NASA . It was a wonderful place to grow up.

  • Mr Propper was still full of himself. I sure hope, now that he is an old has-been, he is more humble.

  • Cool, but was hoping you'd get some film of Jan McCutcheon (sp?) yelling down to the guys in the water. (If you lived there then, you know what I'm talking about --laff.) A great place to live and experience in the Sixties. . . Nort's, Ramon's, The Surf, Ron Jon's when it was a tiny storefront operation. And the parties! And the weed, and the girls, and the driving on the beach. . . Ted Lund, Bill Volmer, Joey Tabeling, Mike Crawford, and a girl named Nancy. Ah, good memories, eh? Thanks.

  • Glad you enjoyed it. I grew up in Indialantic. I knew Mike Tabeling and Dick Catri, met Murph the Surf before he was a killer (at least as far as I knew). My brother and I discovered Sebastion on our own one day, before there was a bridge at the inlet. Many days of surf there without anyone but us in the water. sweet. (oh yes, I played for the gators when just after Spurrier graduated with his Heisman.

  • I always avoid piers or anywhere you might get caught between the wave and a hard place. but most surfers are airheads and take risks almost like there was no risk at all in many instances. Surfers tend to be people who have time to waste and be satisfied with hardly a profit

  • G.P. was somewhat stuck on himself but he went to H-land and was humbled and when he came back he was changed not much but changed

  • I hope he is no longer full of himself as he was when we all went to school at Cocoa Beach High School. He was REALLY thinkin' he was all that. NOT!

  • Don't care about the thumbs down. He was still conceited and thought he was all that... he wasn't.

  • so sick
