  • Check out the sound of the new Indy Car V6 engine.

  • the speeds reached here in 1986 were fucking extreme! no one will ever race that fast at brands hatch ever again. :(

  • I love how all the references to BHP in here are climbing by the post. This car had around 1100BHP. I have dyno print outs of it.

  • Could someone tell me the name of the commentator, please?

  • @Gabooooom Murray Walker.

  • Damn, that's fast.

  • wow this car is a BEAST

  • Best sound in the world - ever. The twin turbo 1.5 Honda F1 engine. Piquet has over 1300 bhp here.

  • Brands was a great track for F1 then

  • I have no words for what i have just seen.

  • miss those times!!

  • @poussyledzep

Check out the sound of 2012 Indy Car V6 engine.

  • I really can't believe how quick those last 5 -6 corners are. It's white line to white line stuff. The arm guards are so close and i agree with some of the previous comments. Check the attitude of the the car. Wheels off the track.

    This us unbelievable... Great footage....

  • I would like to see more videos of Nelson Piquet. - I love Senna but there are other great drivers in the world and we should not forget that. -- Piquet is also a 3 time champion. -- He fought in the hight of the 80's formula 1 wars and won many times to become 3 time world champ. -- Even Senna would have to congradulate him on his accomplishments. -- God Bless the both of them.

  • THIS is real driving...

    the good old days

  • Nelson Piquet was an amazing driver but the difference between him and Senna is remarkable. Nelso had the talent and the ability though. However Senna in inferior vehicles performed alot better than the others drivers. That is the difference. But Nelson Piquet is a legend. Amazing driver always has my approval as a legend in F1

  • @MrTClubber Gud comment .. in addition to that ... I think they were great drivers and agree they both are legends. But in my opinion Piquet was better in setting and tunning his cars. He usually got time on car setups. And other important accomplishment was to beat an english driver in an english team .... even Alonso couldn't do that in these days.

  • Great Piquet! The last romantic.

  • This is with H pattern gearboxes? Those upshifts are unbelievably quick. Watch the Senna and Mansell laps and they're not nearly as rapid.

  • Awesome. He was f...king flying!

  • I wonder what the new, modern turbo era will be like?

Hopefully those engines will sound as good as the old turbo era or I'll just have to laugh.

  • @godzillat6 they arent likely to sound this good. These are 1.5l v6 which in qualifying trim ran around 5bar (over 70psi) and had 1200hp. From what ive read the new f1 engines will be rev, boost, and have to all run the same dimension 4cyl engines. Its cool they're going to be turbo, love anything really with one.. Then again rally cars are turbo also and they dont get me going at all. Time will tell.

  • We should remember that Nelson Piquet was the fastest racer at that time. Alain Prost was awesome but look at this video clip.

    Nelson is flying!

  • they are simular in pace to GP2's or A1's, but the F1's are around 10 to 12 seconds a lap faster then those so could do the Brands GP circuit in around 1:02 thesedays, perhaps even a minute dead on an exceptionally good lap so whatever way u look at it when u bare in mind Piquet's lap was a 1:07 the new F1's are a good 5 seconds a lap faster at least then they where back then!

  • @Knightoftheorient 5 seconds faster but 5 times easier - this kicks ass on modern F1 - look at the body language of the car for chrissake - like the worlds wickedest rodeo bull from hell compared to riding a slinky panther (modern f1 car) - it aint just about average lap speed - its more about vehicle dynamics.

  • Bring back 1.5 Litre Turbo's. They'd whup the slower modern machines round a not too twisty circuit any day!

Urm in a word no, the engines might have been more powerful back then in terms of horsepower but now they have a higher rpm aswell as more advanced technology offering better downforce which enables the modern F1's to take corners alot faster. The Superleague Formula's raced at Brands a few weeks ago and where doing times of around 1:13 and they are modern powerful v12 single seaters

  • Balls man, balls. . .

  • No V8,its a 1.5 l V6turbo i think on maximum boost here in QL, perhaps 1300 HP, BMW flat4cyl generated over 1500HP in QL...

  • !985 to 1994 was really the golden age! Beautiful cars, blistering speed and power and the greatest drivers overall of any era. Could watch these vids all day.....

  • @zitmeister1978 Blame Bernie Greedystone :(..also his fault that loads of races goes on in countries that dont rly care about F1...I hate him so much!

  • beautiful f1 car.Today there are so ugly.

  • Man... white line to white line to white line... I am no fan of Piquet, but this lap was a stunner.

  • I agree with motorsportnutter4eva-awsome cars/drivers/era

  • golden age

  • What a track!

  • late 80s to early 90s F1 cars were sooo coool

  • The sound of those old V8 turbo's wow!! Never seen the GP circuit at Brands been eaten up so quickly, this even makes the new Ferrari powered A1's seem slow.

I think Murray might hav exagerated abit though when he said Surtees bend 140mph, even modern single seaters like A1 or the Superbikes take that corner at about 90-100mph tops!

I can believe topspeeds of 170-180mph on the straights though.

  • The last season of unlimited turbo-era. And a track with no run-off areas or slow corners so this insane, but very antertaning and ambitious...

  • When the F1..was F1.....AWESOME

  • Absolutely.

Interesting how much the cars developed in the early 80s, just compare the '86 cars with say, '80.

  • Yes, completely Yes.

This is the old. We know the result or what would happen next.

But I still feel blood began to flow in my vein strongly.

And Nelson overtake Tyrrell in the atack lap.If it would hapen the same in curret SHIT regulation, he(Tyrrell) have to be penalized.

  • thank you osamu goto for the honda v6bi-turbo egine.

  • Awesome footage....I noticed his wheels were actually off the track in spots. And those barriers are very close..Vintage F1..Vintage Piquet

  • Now THIS is F1!

  • Brilliant, brilliant lap. Piquet at his absolute peak. His commitment all the way out on the GP loop from Surtees through to Clearways brings a chill to the spine. Even more committed than Ayrton's qualifying lap in the Lotus IMO.

  • @BlackEliseSport160

This was a great lap, but, Senna in Monaco of 1988, is the most committed lap of all time. It will never be topped what Senna did.

  • @LDis1 For now, its true. But never say never, who knows? maybe in the future, some very talented driver will come and blow us all away. I am not saying Senna is a bad driver (in fact, he's the best driver in F1 history) but, things might happen in the future.

  • I forgot to recall, if needed (I don't think so because we can notice it when we see him in the video and the videos of his opposition) : He got the Pole....

  • f1 at its best

  • This is where the British GP should've stayed, much better circuit than Silverstone which is just flat and featureless. Piquet was absolutely on the limit there, remember these cars in qualifying setup were producing 1400bhp along with a manual gearbox and clutch, incredible footage!
