libertarian socialists and anarchists generally promote private property in the sense that most people understand it--people have direct control over what happens in their homes and in their workplaces. In the case of capitalist "private property" a small group of wealth-owners dictate to the vast majority with little or no wealth while in state socialism the state controls production and distribution hence it controls people while they work and steals from the fruits of their labor.

Libertarian Socialism has nothing to do with Libertarianism. The word "libertaire," which is where "libertarian" comes from was first used by Joseph Déjacque to describe his ideology to Proudhon. His ideology would today be called Libertarian Socialism. So if there's an oxymoron, it's Libertarian capitalism.
