@Nephronial , I know this was a year ago, but that form is reserved for Black Belt training, When you are introduced to this form you've already been taught the techniques. This example of Form 4 was modified so as to not turn his back to the judges, the final 5-6 techniques are acutally with your back to the judges (12 o'clock). Later.
@sshaffe4011 Hi, i am not, hopefully, portraying myself as being disrespectful to you because i don't meen to, i just don't understand your point here.
@cluedo31 Great question! I don't recall what I was responding to from an earlier post by someone else, but the structure of the form has you facing the rear (6 o'clock), the performer here modified the transition to always be facing the judges which is your 12 o'clock line. Imagine you're standing in circle in the middle where the clocks arms are attached. You're facing 12, behind you is 6, and so forth. It's just a training tool to visualize where to put your feet, defend yourself, etc.
I don't know about other Associations. But the World Kenpo Karate Association awards rank based on skill, proficiency in the curriculum material, ability to spar (against adult black belts), time in grade, and for black belt promotions, a designated minimum number of teaching hours. I started training at the age of 10, and I am currently one of Jim Mitchell's designated protege's. I was very fortunate to start so early, and to be so addicted!
I was 17 years old at the time, and I believe it was the 16-17 Black Belt Forms Division. I can't remember if there was a subcategory, but it would have been Kenpo forms. I still smirk a little when I see this because I was so excited to be there (it's a long drive from MO to CA), that I went quite a bit faster than I intended.
Nice form. Very strong with a good snap to the strikes!
