i love how people think slapping is the pinnicle of bass talent, and that certain basses should "only be slapped". people of this sort tend to think music and playing have some type of devine "rules" as well. hilarious.
@syndrom666 you forget though that more bassists slap than use a pick because if you play fingerstyle close to the bridge, it gets the same tone. Pslapping is funner than going up,down,up,down..........
hey, let the man play! Slapping is an acquired technique that can add value to your playing style if you know how to incorporate it into your technique. It's no where near easy, nor is it a newbie thing to do. So unless you know the fingerboard like the back of your hand, I wouldn't recommend slapping just to slap it. That's stupid and pointless. I see that all the time at music shops where every consecutive bassist tests out the bass by slapping. What about picking?!!! did everyone forget that?
Damn!! I have an Ice Blue Stingray HS, from what I understand it is not a very common color, and it has been discontinued. I purchased mine on Amazon about a year ago, and when I did, only 2 were left. I would love to know who was the lucky person who purchased the other one. You gotta love this "discontinued" color!!!
@Tooltrocity Actually you have to demo a stingray non slapped, because every other yahoo thinks of Flea being the ultimate slap happy bassist that brought the ultimate slap to the bass world and revolutionized the stingray bass. How about listening to some of Justin Chancellor's bass lines in Tool, he used the stingray for their most popular songs, and not a note of slap there.
mark hoppus has one!

Is this bass good for punk/indie?

The most Music Man and Sterling basses are good for rock and metal , but you can use them for everything and it still sounds good.

is the sound always that zing-ish or is it just because the strings are new?

@syndrome666 I wouldn't really mind if there's no slap, but, because I play metalcore and a little melodeath, I want to see it picked!!!

Cool demo, but IMO you really can't demo a Stingray without slapping it.
