Hey, I'm doing a documentary film with my dad, about a little place in the Wairarapa that was built on sawmilling - Where is your sawmill, and can we come and record/film it operating?
I love how tree huggers hate this stuff, yet without it they would have never even survived to come to their delusional opinions....
Dont get me wrong I believe we need to take care of our enviornment, but we are given these materials to use... And they can be replenished.....And are replenished......
awesome, great saw. I love Youtube saw porn, woohoo!! This saw seems to have been built well, The operators appear to be working a safe distance from the blade, it obviously works well so I would have to conclude that this saw is a as safe as the people operating it. Sure stuff goes wrong and 45,000 people die on the highways each year(yeah I though it would be more also), it's life. Is the round thing behind the blade the riving knife?
I worked in a mill like this in the 70's. It was converted to electric but the wide belt drive was still used. The head sawer retired and nobody could figure out how to run it right so it shut down. One guy got hit in the head with a board that flew from the plainer. I saw him a month ago. he must be 90 and still has a dent in his head. Although these mills are an OSHA nightmare they built this country. The sawer sat on a tractor seat and was protected by 1/4" screen. Amaizing stuff.
We have a Lucas Mill. That place looks very dangerous! I'm not saying the mill isn't "cool". I'm just amazed at how dangerous the working area is! Thanks for sharing! Oh, that blade is humungus! It must be a real pain to sharpen!
People can say what they want about the day when steam power was big but I still think those days were better. I'm only 35 and wasn't alive then but I know for a fact people did things that just made more since !!!!
That belt seems kinda loose...

WOW!!
That is very cool, but the only thing I could think about is how dangerous that machine is. That saw blade is huge.
Wonder how many body parts were claimed by that machine.
