... I'm confused to..... i install thinkfan to lower my fan speed and i cant find it!!! :( and i have no gmanedit installed to my os!!!!!!!! plzz help.....
@michalislag Firstly, you should let your BIOS control your fan speed. If you go into your BIOS setup thingy, there will be an option for it.
Secondly, thinkfan is not a graphical program, so you don't create a launcher for it in your Applications menu.
Thirdly, 'gmanedit' was the example program that I used. You would substitute this for the name of the program you want to create a launcher for. But don't bother; just get your BIOS to manage fan speed for you.
@timshapiro Watch it again; Gmanedit is the name of the program I'm installing. You'd substitute it for whatever the name of your program is. So if you look in Synaptic under the Installed Files tab for your program, and it shows a file at the location /usr/bin/avant, then you'd just type "avant" (without the quotes) into the 'command' field.
If you install "compizconfig-settings-manager" from the repositories and then run System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager, you will find it in the "Close Animation" tab of the "Animations" button. Click on "Glide 1" or whatever the first item is in the list, click Edit and change the animation to "Burn".
i really love UBUNTU! it's an amazing system. but i have to learn more to completely master him.en tout cas je vais y venir un jour proche et y rester, j'ai vus tourner quelques émulateurs dessus et croiyez moi, windows peut aller se coucher!
May I ask a doubt. In Windows, when you install a program, everything comes up in the folder where its installed (eg. Program Files) and everything is pretty straight forward.
In Linux, I don't understand where the files are going and what are the .exe equivalents in Linux ? And, its quite annoying that I get access to only the home folder (I mean, even if get full access, its really confusing whats going on) :(
I know what you mean. I started using Ubuntu and Linux for the first time recently too.
I think we'll just have to wait it out and get used to using a new operating system.
as far as where the files are going just watch the vid that's what it's about if you mean why we have no control over where they go during installation? well that's something I ve been asking myself too.
the equivalent of .exe is useually an extension less file named after the app your using.
When i first installed ubuntu, i added lots of programs at the same time.. then i saw that only part of them went in to the menus. I dont remember the names, and the filesystem is still little complicated to me.. do you have any solution?
OK. Thanks, dude. I see you're very reluctant to talk about your desktop skin. I wasn't aware i was touching a sensitive spot. Sorry. I won't mention it again.
1. I've just installed recordmydesktop, and given it a test run. But the audio quality came out very poor, even though my mike is good. Do you have any idea what i might do to fix this?
2. What about the skin? How can i make my desktop look as nifty as yours?
OK, i recorded a screencast with recordmydesktop, and then i tried to upload it to YouTube, but YouTube didn't let me upload it, because the file format was unrecognized. How did you upload your video to YouTube, Chris?
1. I really dig your black skin. I'd like to install one as well. How do i go about it?
2. I'd like to record a Ubuntu computer tutorial, too. What software have you used to record this one?
3. You've apologized for the slow speed of your computer, explaining it was due to the recording program in the background. Well, that's the normal speed of my computer when nothing special runs in the background. What hardware do you use?
Great video! I have some problems installing rpm packages.. Not very good at using the terminal yet. Could need some help. The package i can't install is the macromedia flash 8 package so i can watch videos etc. I downloaded the package from there website but can't install it in any way. Tried to search for it in the synaptics package but it cant find the right pack... Help? :)

I looked for it and it is not there. :(
Is there something I have to do?

I pronounce it the same way he does but with a different accent.
Something about the tone of voice he uses when he says gmanedit sounds funny to me.

Dude, that guy's accent is completely weird. I mean, he said "Chuchorial" for tutorial. LoL !!

So what languages besides English do you speak? Many? One? None? Is your accent just perfect in all of them? Some of them? None?
