@bibliognosthere Sorry, but nowhere does the Bible describe an ideal of one man and one woman. Virtually all important Biblical men were polygamous, with the exception of Adam, who could not have had more than one wife without being incestuous. And when you say the NT "explicitly" endorses monogamy, you are simply lying. It never even mentions monogamy. The closest thing there is the passage describing a husband and wife as one flesh, which is true if he has one wife or several.

@bibliognosthere A verse describing a husband and wife as being of one flesh doesn't mean a husband can't have many wives. As you probably know, the Bible explicitly endorses polygamous marriage and even commands it in certain circumstances. That's why orthodox Jews continued to practice polygamy until the 20th century, as did early Christians until after Charlemagne, as did Mormons as recently as a hundred years ago. Your "thousands of years, all religions" line is a complete fiction.

I think group marriage would be a good idea for many people. Why does monogamy have to be the only legal union? Humans are polyamorous creatures and at any given time most people have romantic feelings towards more than one person. It's just that we're not socially permitted to explore plural partner relationship structures. It's just misleading that the example most people think of is religious polygamists.
