Beautiful piece. He's good to be a young boy but sings through the nose a bit too much. And the tone needs to be slightly more evenly spread though the air beam you make when singing classical music. Or disposed the way the writer intended with nuances. Could be nervousness. A mature woman's alto or mezzosoprano would have been better for this piece.
@Xedome - No, it would NOT, as the foundation for just this performance of the oratorium was that all soprano and alto scores should be sung by boys - as on Bach´s own time!
@Xedome You should listen to earlier recording by Harnoncourt of this same work, featuring Peter Jelosits. He puts to shame all soloists that ever sung this piece. Bach's tradition of having soprano pieces sung by boys should have been kept, Harnoncourt's only fault being that he often selected boys ill equipped for the task (such as this one).
@pedowife4kids - His actual name is Gregor Lütje, he is now working with opera productions around Germany.
It´s difficult to see exactly, but I believe that the "Echo" boy is Thomas Schilling, who had a beautiful vcoice, in fact was more of a mezzo than a real soprano.
@laurafreia das Verb ist "einfloessen" nicht floessen. Es bedeutet soviel wie "to instill" in English, i.e. to instill awe. Does his name instill the smallest bit of awe in me?

Also ich finde der Gregor Lütjens hatte ne wunderschöne Altstimme oder vielleicht auch mezzosopran.

@52sport6469
Oh, I must correct myself now seeing a close picture at 2:57 of "the Echo boy". He is certainly Martin Busen.

Was heisst "flösst" auf Spanisch oder auf Englisch? Bitte! Danke...
laurafreia 2 years ago
literally, "einflößen" means "to instill":
Flößt, mein Heiland, flößt Dein Namen
Auch den allerkleinsten Samen
Jenes strengen Schreckens ein?
Nein, du sagst ja selber nein. (Nein!)
Sollt ich nun das Sterben scheuen?
Nein, dein süßes Wort ist da!
Oder sollt ich mich erfreuen?
Ja, du Heiland sprichst selbst ja. (Ja!)

Translation:
"Does, my Saviour, does your name
infect me with the tiniest grain
of that horrifying awe?
No, it is yourself who says no (no).
Am I supposed to fear the dying?
No, for your sweet word is there!
Or should I better rejoice?
Yes, you, Saviour, it is yourself who says yes (yes).

@Baccalaureus79 Say, my Saviour, tell me rightly,
shall Thy name the least affright me,
cause me terror or dismay? ....
Nay, nay, say Thou ever "may", say Thou ever "nay"; ...
nay, Thou sayest ever nay!
Should I think of death with sadness?
No, They Word keeps fear away!
Shall I not be filled with gladness? Yea, my Saviour, yea, my Saviour,
say Thou "Yea"! ...

I like the other one who sings the echos wearing a nice frock and standing up on the gallery.

Sehr schön, das "Nein"! Vorsichtig und dezent! -
Das Echo dürfte allerdings etwas stärker hervor treten!
