I have a set of Low Winds in a Tokai ES-130, which is a great copy of a 335. The Low Winds sound absolutely fantastic, warm and clear. They have more than enough output for all styles from jazz to hard rock, really! You will not have a benefit from the standard version as long as you are not playing Ted Nugent.
Yeah, I just got some of the low wind Imperials for my 335. They are the sweetest sounding pickups I've ever heard. Not as middy as the regular Imperials, and a little brighter, but they have the same sweetness. Less output, of course. Highly recommended for a little more classic vintage PAF tone. How does he do it?!?!?!?!
Always faniced a plexi but every SLP I have ever tried sounded brittle and never like this which is what I'd want out of a plexi - super warm and tons of sustain.
Can I ask what settings you had the amp on and were the channels jumped? Also, any other pedals used apart from the hotcake which I presume was just to get a higher gain tone?
Nothing but a Hotcake and a couple of Sabre Cables (Neutrik plugs with Mogami wire). I don't think I had the channels jumpered, but my memory is a bit foggy that far back. Really great amp. I miss it! Should have kept it!!!
hey dude, the lollars sound nice as far as i can tell from a youtube video..do you like them? I'm thinking about getting some...you seem to have a nice thick, yet bright and articulate tone..
wow, that was awesome! I've only just started playing electric, after having played acoustic for about 8 months, and I'm crap - I better keep practising!
Thanks everyone! Sadly this guitar and amp are long gone. I dug the video out of the archives. The Jason Lollar pickups really brought the guitar to life.
Hi. Which Lollar Imperials do you have...low wind...high wind or regular? Thanks.

this amp really sound like billy gibbons' guitar sound (your playing does too)
why do you only use neck pickup?

Nice tones there mate. I'm thinking of the Low Winds for my 335, how are you finding them?
Do you think the standard Imperials would overpower a 335?
A clip of the 335 and low winds would be great!

bopplayer 3 years ago
They are just the standard Imperials. I'm not sure whether they are Alnico 5 or not.

The gain-ier setting towards the end of the video sounded exactly like Eric Johnsons lead tone!

Great tone, tasty playing, kept waiting to hear the lead pickup sound. I've heard these hotcakes before and they are a nice distortion unit.
