I thought that was one of the things that made me cry the hardest about the story. Was the moral that, although he can cast away modern technology and all of the things disconnecting us from our earth mother, .. He realized in the end that companionship is as much of a necessity as oxygen.

I think Chris McCandless' story should be heard and i think Sean Penn and Emile Hirsch did an amazing job with it. If you haven't read the book, i strongly recommend it, it helps alot to better understand Chris and why he did what he did. Some people think he's crazy for what he did, but it makes sense, and if he hadn't died i think alot of people might have felt different about him.

When I saw the movie I started thinking...was he crazy..or is society crazy? I mean, would it be better if he just lived a "normal" life without any meaning or purpose waiting to get old and die?

Because this is what many ppl do with their lives. I admire him very much. I think it takes a lot of courage to stand up and go against what everybody is doing, what his family and friends were doing. He was searching for himself.

I believe we all have our own unique journeys to pursue.

This man was a free spirit who just wanted to be free. His life was made full by the new experiences he had on his journey. Have you not had the calling to just be out there, free in the wild? Society, wealth, and possessions held no importance to him. BEautiful story. Inspirational.

Chris wrote about happiness - shared. His life, his parents held no importance to him. His choices did not change the Society, but did changed and hurted those who cared about him. When he changed his mind and didn't sign Supertramper, it was too late for him.

@genecomm I see your point of view. But in the end of his journal he wrote ""I HAVE HAD A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD. GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL!". His happiness was shared through what he wrote and what he loved. His parents should of been happy for him that he found happiness. No one is going to live forever (except maybe God almighty), one must find what they love and do it.
