Chosen tempi of many vocal works, including this An Die Musik (also, the lyrics are more appropriate for an older, mature person like Jose van Dam), sound discernably faster than previous renditions, thereby rendering the performances rushed, perfunctory, and without understanding or freeling, rather like a vocal exercise. Some recordings from the 1950-60s sound much more sensitive and beautiful.
