I recognized the theme. It's a piece originally by legendary NFL Films composer Sam Spence at the close of the Super Bowl VIII highlight film and was picked up for news usage by KHOU in Houston around 1976 (which also confirms my feeling that a LOT of NFL Films themes from that era could have worked for TV news as well).
@HamptonRoadsTVFan, It was also on a N.F.L. Films show called "The Defenders" and opened N.F.L. Films presentation of Super Bowl V. Sadly, it's not on any of the N.F,L, Films music compilation C.D. sets.
@DanielSelby1965 Clearly George Reading was the "stud" anchorman... look at all the different poses he strikes in the intro while Dick Cable looks more reserved in his jacket and tie.
So, Corinthian owned 10 for 25 years? They were the company that bought 10 from Sacramento City Telecasters in 1959 and changed the call letters to KXTV.
Sac City Telecasters put 10 on the air back in '55.
I remember these guys. I grew up in Fairfield and we would alternate between channel 10 and the SF news on channel 7 KGO. Yeah Rick Kavooras was strange looking.
I know a lot of comments concern the details of these well known local anchormen from fans of the particular station. I'm just amazed by how weird the 1970s always looks.
Oh yeah- whatever happened to Rick Kavooras? It seems like he existed only in the 1970s. Also what was the name of KXTV's main announcer? He had a unique voice, kind of scared me sometimes.
Neat- do you have the complete opening theme? I've got a tape recorded the Friday before this (I put up here a 2-second promo for Rainbow Radar) and has the slide saying "Now stay tuned for Newservice 10" but the recording stopped before the news started.

The mid-to-late 1970's was when TV weather forecasts began adding color radar, as opposed to either black-and-white radar or none at all.

@eyeh8cbs If I'm right, it was Jim Anthony, also an air personality on the old AM 1380 KGMS, an adult standards station.
