apostle means one sent out with a speacial purpose/mission, Christ Jesus is the Apostle One sent by God to speak the Father's Word's and Christ sent out for a special purpose first the 12 plus Paul unto the Gentiles. Also there are those with apostleship as well that are apostles Like: In Acts 14:4,14, it is used of Barnabas as well as of Paul; in Rom. 16:7 of Andronicus and Junias. In 2 Cor. 8:23; 1 Thess. 2:6 of Paul, Silas and Timothy, to define their relation to Christ, etc...
