Can you help me choose which model of Ugly Stik rod to use for walley trolling using crankbaits on MN lakes with a bait caster reel? Some tell me Big Water series and some say the Lite salmon/steel head rod. I think I will just stick with flat line trolling this Spring but MIGHT try downrigging in the summer. I really prefer flat lining, though. I need a rod that breaks down to pack in my car, too. Thank you for your help!
if you all used St. Croix gear, you wouldn't have the arguing problem... ha ha ha, just kidding guys...although EXPENSIVE - They are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC rods. i gotta say too, that i have used some Berkley Lightning Rods that i think are great too... meaning, you can feel the slightest hit...and, they are pretty cheap in comparison with St. Croix gear.
Wow, look at the idiots squabbling like a bunch of old grannies. I use Shimano, Abu Garcia and Quantum. I love all three of them. They all have excellent reels and rods. Which one I use, however, depends entirely on what I am fishing for, and at times, what mood I am in. Saying that someone is retarded just because they do not like the equipment you use, is prejudiced and wrong. I love a lot of brands and as long as it is a quality product, who cares who makes it?
I use bottom bouncers if you know what those are. If not, they are a lure with a hook and worm you bounce off the bottom trolling. Where in Michigan, I find the most success with that. Then every once in a while in deep weeds, they will hit large white spinners with a gold bail.
I don't know how to say it in english, but I'm using standard jig/spinning and "the fall method".
A fall method is a kind of heavy jig with kind of "big fly" on it. It's from USA, but polish spiners modificated it long time ago to catch eg. walleyes.
Good technique in deeper water. Keeps the bait right in the strike zone. Of course you would use a different approach in weedy areas. Also, I must say the Linders make fishing look too easy as if there is no patience involved.
If I only had $15-30 to spend, what lures or soft baits would you guys suggest for purchase? I'm going for mostly bass and panfish. Anything that can catch multiple species actually. Any help?
@asianwannabeamerican Use 6 lb test...buy some bright painted 1/8 ounce jig heads and some brightly colored twister tails....lift rod and drop on a long retrieve...retrieve should take a minute or more....problem solved.
lift your pole up and keep tension on the line. but before that make sure you set a long sweeping hookset. when you use heavy weights to get your bait down while trolling you need longer leaders or sometimes the walleye ignore your bait. i catch more walleye with 6 to 8 foot leaders behind heavy bottom bouncers than the same setup with a shorter leader. thats just my 2cents
theres a time and place for both techniques. when you can determine that you can catch alot of walleye with both techniques when the conditions suit one style over another
we sink floating baits w/ a slip sinker similar to the way you rig for catfishing, but just enough weight to sink the bait a few feet (or however deep you wanted to go depending on ammount of weight you use)
if i were to use this technique would a shimano scimitar spinning rod be ok??? Plz reply asap

could you use this for trout? use smaller weight smaller line in a river and use small count down's?

a six foot leader is way too big... how are supposed to net a big one when its still got six feet of room to shake its head and spit out the hooks?

When the walleye are tired, it go to surface. Then the fisherman grab the line and hold it in hes hand and then another guy net the fish
