Two quick questions... I've chosen a quad core processor already for my gaming PC (I'm going to buy the parts in a couple of days) and I was wondering, should I change the CPU to just get a Dual Core? just to let you know, buy a new CPU if you want to play WoW at max settings. WoW is all about the CPU. I tested it and put my old old old 5500FX into my dual core computer, and got really high FPS. I mean 20-40 FPS, which isn't high, but if you remember that it's a 5500FX, it's very good! my 8600GTS is so much better, and I only get 40-60FPS as opposed to 20-40FPS, and I spent $140 on it!

they are up to date, my point is that a 5500FX shouldn't perform that well on any ordinary game, but because it was with a dual core it did run well which proves my theory that WoW only needs a dual core to run modestly well at high settings. That's all I was saying really, and I know that the 8600GTS would out-do the 5500FX so much if it had a quad core for example, I do understand this :P

Okay, now listen, I put my old 5500FX (at least 6 years old) into my new DUAL CORE computer. I run WoW at max settings and the LOWEST FPS I GET IS 20FPS! I average from 30-45. I switched back to my new 8600GTS and it gives me only a 15-20FPS boost. This is because it's ALL in the CPU and RAM, the graphics card doesn't mean anything to World of Warcraft! If you buy ANYTHING, make sure it's a CPU, not a graphics card!

wow, you don't know anything about game's and hardware do you. Graphics card is the most important component when running games (mostly)

That's the case with most games, but with WoW you need CPU a lot more than a graphics card. It's an extremely 'different' senario as opposed to other games, but graphics are getting used more luckily with WotLK (woot for more view dist :D)

Well the way you were talking there lol.. The video card has EVERYTHING to do with it its your gpu(Graphics Processing Unit) that does mostly all the 3-D Ram and the CPU really just help, but that dont mean you can throw a 9800 gt into an old P3 mobo and expect it work..

I know a graphics card is a GPU, graphics processing unit, but I meant WoW in particular needs a fast CPU. If I said something that looks stupid I was probably dumbing it down so I didn't look like a total tech geek lol

WoW is very very RAM and CPU intensive, meaning that it takes a lot of CPU power to quickly load all the info in the WoW folder to your ram, but once that's done, the GPU has no problem displaying it all at once, 30 times a second assuming the CPU can send orders that fast

it's an art style choice, actually if you pay close enough attention there is incredible amounts of Detail in WoW. they chose this art style since they felt it matched the warcraft universe

You don't have to set everything back to default, just make the macro and use it, if your addons are taking too much mem and you're laggy in high quality, then switch to low quality, and when your addons are off use high quality. The macro works great, thanks Baron.

When I played WoW my video card was a piece of shit and I only got about 10 fps with all the settings on lowest. Now I got a new video card, turned up the settings, and I'm amazed at how good the graphics in WoW look.
