Thats funny because they simply can, and simply are. It wasn't just Laynes band. Jerry was the largest contributor to the bands style and sound. Now had Jerry taken Laynes place AIC most likely would never be again. If for you AIC stopped when being AIC when Layne died then don't follow them. I think Duvall does a great job and sure that Layne would be glad that they are moving forward.

Tbh i think the reason they did keep the name is because it already has a legacy behind it, they would have to start from scratch and they perhaps didn't want to do that this far into their music careers, either that or it's because there would be 3 out of 4 of the members from the original 90's run so they decided it wasn't logical to rename the band, who knows we may never find out, unless they're asked the question directly 'Why did you decide against a name change?'

I caught AIC here in Oct. 2007 and they stole the show (from Velvet Revolver and Hellyeah). Grind was so badass...."Let the sun never blind your eyes", and they turned on about 100,000 watts of blinding white light....fuckin' SUPERB! One of the best live shows I've ever seen (and I've seen about 100)
I was at a recent concert of AIC and I heard a lot of racist chants, someone even threw a banana at the stage and it ended up bouncing off of the amp.

William DuVall is an AMAZING singer! GIVE HIM A CHANCE! For one, AIC is known for SENSATIONAL harmonies therefore it wouldnt work as well with just Cantrell on Vocals. What is wrong with Alice in Chains using the name Alice in Chains? Yes, Layne Staley was an OUTSTANDING singer and it can be hard to turn the page. However, every song I've heard with Duvall has been ROCK SOLID! Here are some bands that switched singers and still rocked: ACDC, Lynard Skynard, Pink Floyd, Van Halen.

William DuVall is a very accomplished guitarist. One of the things about Cantrell that makes him so great is his willingness to do whatever serves the song and conveyes the message. I'll bet DuVall is also well represented in the writing of the album. I think that'd be great since I'm as big a fan of DuVall's work as I am of Cantrell's. If troubles someone, they don't have to listen, but I hope they at least give it a chance.
Serving the song is what its all about. Jerry is the main songwriter but has always utilised the band members creativity and opinions. When I saw AIC at Brixton Academy, Layne played guitar on some songs, and Jerry sang BV's on some.
I miss Layne's singing and wonder what fantastic songs AIC would've come up with if he was alive and clean. Since we'll never know, I'm looking forward to hearing the principal AIC songwriter's (Cantrell's) new songs interpreted by a new singer/collaborator.
Unless you clone a person, you can never 'replace' them. Because there was only one of them to begin with.

Thats funny because they simply can, and simply are. It wasn't just Laynes band. Jerry was the largest contributor to the bands style and sound. Now had Jerry taken Laynes place AIC most likely would never be again. If for you AIC stopped when being AIC when Layne died then don't follow them. I think Duvall does a great job and sure that Layne would be glad that they are moving forward.

I think this shows the upmost respect from Jerry. Hes continuing with Alice In Chains, and he deserves to fucking do it as well. Layne was a great singer but held Jerry and the band back from doing greater things. This is where Jerry will continue with this and hey, onwards and upwards. Why should Alice in Chains end just because Lanye died? The music still has the same vibe, and I'd rather know that a great band like AIC was still alive and going instead of just shitty emo bands.

Tbh i think the reason they did keep the name is because it already has a legacy behind it, they would have to start from scratch and they perhaps didn't want to do that this far into their music careers, either that or it's because there would be 3 out of 4 of the members from the original 90's run so they decided it wasn't logical to rename the band, who knows we may never find out, unless they're asked the question directly 'Why did you decide against a name change?'

I've heard some of the songs with Duvall and he's actually a pretty good singer. I caught AIC here in Oct. 2007 and they stole the show (from Velvet Revolver and Hellyeah). Grind was so badass...."Let the sun never blind your eyes", and they turned on about 100,000 watts of blinding white light....fuckin' SUPERB! One of the best live shows I've ever seen (and I've seen about 100)

My favorite band of all time is AIC. However they should have either changed their name if they wanted to make more music or went with a different singer, because this guy for one reason or another isn't the right chioce in my opinion. I think this is a pretty wide spread opinion.

William DuVall is an AMAZING singer! GIVE HIM A CHANCE! For one, AIC is known for SENSATIONAL harmonies therefore it wouldnt work as well with just Cantrell on Vocals. What is wrong with Alice in Chains using the name Alice in Chains? Yes, Layne Staley was an OUTSTANDING singer and it can be hard to turn the page. However, every song I've heard with Duvall has been ROCK SOLID! Here are some bands that switched singers and still rocked: ACDC, Lynard Skynard, Pink Floyd, Van Halen.

Duvall IS INCREDIBLE, but you will never know until you see him live!! Every video post on youtube will confirm that. Duvall is a RAW grunge frontman...similar to Cornell(my fav vocalist), not as showy like Layne was.

William DuVall is a very accomplished guitarist. One of the things about Cantrell that makes him so great is his willingness to do whatever serves the song and conveyes the message. I'll bet DuVall is also well represented in the writing of the album. I think that'd be great since I'm as big a fan of DuVall's work as I am of Cantrell's. If troubles someone, they don't have to listen, but I hope they at least give it a chance.

Serving the song is what its all about. Jerry is the main songwriter but has always utilised the band members creativity and opinions. When I saw AIC at Brixton Academy, Layne played guitar on some songs, and Jerry sang BV's on some.
I miss Layne's singing and wonder what fantastic songs AIC would've come up with if he was alive and clean. Since we'll never know, I'm looking forward to hearing the principal AIC songwriter's (Cantrell's) new songs interpreted by a new singer/collaborator.

Plenty of bands continue and are still good after a member dies or leaves. What makes AIC any different?
