Man, you know it must have been ridiculously hard to coordinate all those moves inside Snuffy's costume, with all the foot movements synchronized, and then the guy at front had to do the eyes, eyelashes, nose, and mouth! Now THAT is talent.

I think his voice sounds like that because this is back when Marty Robinson was mocking Jerry Nelson's Snuffy. Jerry Nelson was Snuffy's original performer. Marty eventually gave Snuffy a more excited personality. He did the same thing when he replaced Brian Meehl as Telly.

I remember this from waaay back. I didn't know what they were doing then, so once I learned about vaudeville I thought of it in the context of this skit.

Incidentally, the Kids In The Hall have done great vaudeville parodies (McGillicutty & Green/McGillicutty & Kurosawa, B & K), and more recently Swisgar and Toki made an attempt at "metal vaudeville" on Metalocalypse.
