i got some probs and i though u might be able to help me. first, when im trying to joing a MultiPlayer, the list is empty. when i host, nobody is joining. when i try IP, it says firewall is blocking rise and fall, even though i checked it out.

Well yes they probably wouldn't win if the whole empire attacked but that is never the case. In a war armies attack one at a time and Spartans defending in their home country filled with mountains and passes would funnel any army and destroy it. Um, first of all, the only reasons the greeks held of the Persians at Thermopyle ( since that is what I guess you are refering to) was because of the terrain, yes the greek fighting style did help, but the terrain is the main reason they were able to hold. Now if the entire Roman army was able to use it's entire force, then the greeks wouldn't be able to win due to the High number of Roman soldiers. Look at the Roman War History, the Romans conquered greece completely.
Yes because they picked a tacticaly smart place to fight. That just means they're smart on how to fight their battles. And the Roman army couldn't use its entire force cuz they were fighting, Gauls,Carthaginians and Woads in Britain. Plus the Spartan phalanx would decimate any Roman charge. Also the Romans wernt all just leginaries, there were Triarii, Principes, Hestati, equites and such. Plus the Roman armor was designed to be ballistic proof a sword could easily find its way to the flesh.
Well yes, the Greeks did win because they chose a strategic spot, but that was just One battle. The romans would be more careful where they fought their battles, they arn't Persians anyway. They could just land a army on the shores right outside of Athens, or near Sparta. They would win in a long war easily. The Phalanx formations doesn't mean the Romans would get decimated, the Macedonians used that tactic against the Romans when they fought them, and still lost horribly.
hahaha really, don't you think the Roman ships would encounter lots of resistance on the way to any of those cities? The Greek navy was a powerful one, the Greek trireme was the desadliest ship on the waters. And the Spartan phalanx was different from the Macedonian. Macedonians had extremely long pikes called Larrisas and when the enemy got close the phalanx failed. The Spartans used shorter spears that could be used in a multitude of different ways from short to longranged combat.
Actually, the only Sea power that could rival Rome's fleet would either be Carthrage's fleet or Egypt's fleet. Also, I know the differences between the phalanx formation that the Spartans used and the phalanx formation that the Macedonians used. But, Alexander the Great didn't have trouble conquering almost the entire known world using the Macedonian phalanx formations. So, you can't really use that as a excuse. Anyways, I think it's more logical to think the Romans would win.
Half of the city states were just being pussys so when Macedon rebelled nobody would help, eventualy they formed an alliance and got their ass kicked because they just left it to long the empire practicly already owned Greece at that time.
Well, the Roman armor type didn't stop them from conquering Europe, the Middle East, and the portion of Africa where the Carthrage Empire was stationed.
Actually, now that I think about it, Rome had way more then 16 legions. During the cival war after the assasination of Caeser, there were around 40 legions fighting. 20 legions under Mark Antony/Octavion and 20 legions under Marcus Brutus/Gauis Longinus.
Your 2500 spartans i highly doubt would defeat around 2500+ of roman legions, from the game ive done that against a friend with around 2500 greeks/spartans vs romans legions and spearmen and my men basically barely beat his (romans) but i doubt your 2500 spartans would defeat that many imo lol generally because i mainly play as the greeks with spartans but this is all in my opinion lol
Yeah but depends how many against how many he has if hes got around 200 or so + i doubt they would even though ive had around 1000 spartans defeat around 2000-3000 against romans huge 3 armies with one but meh depends how good the player is and controlling them

You dont need to buy it, it has been released for free (together with some other midway games), do a google for midway_riseandfall.exe (2.4gb).
Some of the games (e.g. Area 51, The suffering) have ads enabled, but a crack will disable them.

During the time of Alexander the Great Sparta wasn't really even a power any more, Athens burned the city down when they were at war with Sparta. After that defeat, Sparta never regained it's power, but the majority of all the Greek city states were united under the Macedonian Empire.

No, the Macedonians aren't Greeks they were a completely seperate culture just with similar beliefs. Also yes the Punic wars went on at the same time they fought the Carthaginians.

The punic wars were all about conquering carthagian lands. Rome fought carthage and the gauls at the same time. It was britains turn after the gaul tribes were conquered.

Rome never fought Sparta, Greeks agreed to become part of Rome because both sides liked eachothers technology and wanted to learn more about it.

just compare the spartan army with the persian: spartans are trained, disciplined professional soldiers (never superior in armor to the romans), persians more or less peasants (expect some parts like the immortals). so its no real miracle what the spartans did in thermopylae.
and that we dont have any misunderstandings here: to watch the ally-non-ally-situation in the ancient mediterrean: just search for terms like "macedonian war I-III" or "Nabis".

At their peaks the Romans wer not better than the Spartans maybe with politics and wealth but in warfare Sparta wud rip them apart everyone here obvioulsy wont state the fact that the Spartans wer master tacticians they had mor than just muscles so u cant say Rome wud win because of tactics also Rome was hated by all other countries and Sparta had many allies, Thrace, the entire Peloponesian peninsula, Phoecia, even Athens wud help. Spartans would actually have a chance against a roman army, Spartans were actually more heavily armored then Legionnaries were. It would be a very interesting battle to win and im not quite sure who would actually win it.

Yes, if Roman armies set foot on Greek soil the Athenians would answer the call.Rome took Greece through a diplomatical annexation.Plus Athens isnt the only people that would help,there were the Phoecians,Thracians, Corinthians,Thespians,and the Thebans maybee even more. And Athens did help the Spartans in the Battle of Thermopylae they sent their navy ships which stopped the Persians from flanking the Spartans by sea.The Spartans were amazing tacticians not just big brutes with swords.

An army of say 5000 Spartans vs the same number of Roman legions. The Spartans would win, the Spartans had enough armor to protect themselves yet to be fast and agile and the Spartans were bred for war, all their life they were hardened into warriors. Roman soldiers were more as police and bodyguards than warriors. Wile Romans were building Temples Spartans were bathing children in alchohol and beating them with sticks to thicken their skin. Spartans were all around better and stronger warriors

Well yes they probably wouldn't win if the whole empire attacked but that is never the case. In a war armies attack one at a time and Spartans defending in their home country filled with mountains and passes would funnel any army and destroy it. Also it was a big empire but thats wat weakened it, many of the armies wer in far off places and it wud take a long time for them to get to Sparta and by then they wud healed and wud be very well rested. Also the Spartans wer also very good tacticians

I think One on One Man Vs Man not Army Vs Army a Spartan Would win, But in a war I doubt that Sparta could of held for very long the romans would of had too many soilders to fight. You would be surprised how fast the Romans could march an Army to one place to Another. Yes they had their armies too spread out at the end but in there hight the Romans would of been to much. It would of been like when the jews started to Rebel

The Spartan soldiers wer bred specifically for war and war only. Spartans spent more time training and fighting than building temples and palaces like Rome The Roman empire got to big for it to handle and so had Sparta and it's allies like Thrace fought them in their mountainous terrain perfect for ambushes they wudve won but sadly they didnt

Yes but realisticly, the Spatans would always be outnumbered against the Roman legions, Rome had what, 16 legions at one point? I actually think it was even more, with 4,000-6,000 men in each legion, you do the math.

Yes legions had around 4,000 soldiers and at the height with 16 legions that would equal about 64000 soldiers, do you know wat 7,000 Greeks did to an army with a number in the hundred thousands maybee more? Before u say "well u just base that off of 300" no I knew a good deal of Greek history years before 300 was even being made.The battle was real and so are the numbers.Now 64,000 soldiers against the Spartan army with its allies wud be devestated specially since they cant all attack at once.

Um, first of all, the only reasons the greeks held of the Persians at Thermopyle ( since that is what I guess you are refering to) was because of the terrain, yes the greek fighting style did help, but the terrain is the main reason they were able to hold. Now if the entire Roman army was able to use it's entire force, then the greeks wouldn't be able to win due to the High number of Roman soldiers. Look at the Roman War History, the Romans conquered greece completely.

Yes because they picked a tacticaly smart place to fight. That just means they're smart on how to fight their battles. And the Roman army couldn't use its entire force cuz they were fighting, Gauls,Carthaginians and Woads in Britain. Plus the Spartan phalanx would decimate any Roman charge. Also the Romans wernt all just leginaries, there were Triarii, Principes, Hestati, equites and such. Plus the Roman armor was designed to be ballistic proof a sword could easily find its way to the flesh.

Well yes, the Greeks did win because they chose a strategic spot, but that was just One battle. The romans would be more careful where they fought their battles, they arn't Persians anyway. They could just land a army on the shores right outside of Athens, or near Sparta. They would win in a long war easily. The Phalanx formations doesn't mean the Romans would get decimated, the Macedonians used that tactic against the Romans when they fought them, and still lost horribly.

hahaha really, don't you think the Roman ships would encounter lots of resistance on the way to any of those cities? The Greek navy was a powerful one, the Greek trireme was the desadliest ship on the waters. And the Spartan phalanx was different from the Macedonian. Macedonians had extremely long pikes called Larrisas and when the enemy got close the phalanx failed. The Spartans used shorter spears that could be used in a multitude of different ways from short to longranged combat.

Actually, the only Sea power that could rival Rome's fleet would either be Carthrage's fleet or Egypt's fleet. Also, I know the differences between the phalanx formation that the Spartans used and the phalanx formation that the Macedonians used. But, Alexander the Great didn't have trouble conquering almost the entire known world using the Macedonian phalanx formations. So, you can't really use that as a excuse. Anyways, I think it's more logical to think the Romans would win.

The romans absalutley domminated the Greeks.
Half of the city states were just being pussys so when Macedon rebelled nobody would help, eventualy they formed an alliance and got their ass kicked because they just left it to long the empire practicly already owned Greece at that time.

Actually, now that I think about it, Rome had way more then 16 legions. During the cival war after the assasination of Caeser, there were around 40 legions fighting. 20 legions under Mark Antony/Octavion and 20 legions under Marcus Brutus/Gauis Longinus.

Your 2500 spartans i highly doubt would defeat around 2500+ of roman legions, from the game ive done that against a friend with around 2500 greeks/spartans vs romans legions and spearmen and my men basically barely beat his (romans) but i doubt your 2500 spartans would defeat that many imo lol generally because i mainly play as the greeks with spartans but this is all in my opinion lol

Yes, i HAve vista ultimate 32 bit and it works but it doesnt seem to work as well on the 64 bit. download the demo and check it before you buy it. but it is like the best strategy game ever
