  • God damn, that's funky.

  • Wow...love the funky blues flute! I play flute and currently learning to play blues (improv) and it isn't as easy as it looks or sounds!

  • Extremely funk.

  • I had the great honour to work with John on many european tours. We also recorded a fantastic live album with him : Made in Germany ! He was not just a good musician but a great person.I miss him !

  • I'm a keyboardist myself, and man I love the organ drumming you did, but (and kudos to the rest of the band because they were f***ing AWESOME) I think you did your best work on the flute. Feel free to come to Janesville, WI and let's make some music!

  • AMAZING... they are sure groovin and how funky can you get!! WOW. Johny Heartsman must practise loads with his organ and flute.

  • Johnny doin' Herbie justice. How bitchen is that?!?!?!

  • Taking up where Rashan Roland Kirk left off.

  • Caraleo!!!!!

  • The Jimmy hendrix of the flute ,Herbie mann would be loving it.

  • Love it. He da man.

  • wow!! de lujo!!

  • Damn, he borrows heavily from Roland Kirk.

  • @mojogough His time is phenomenal - as good as Rashan's but he seems to be a bit more melodic - more notes.

  • thank you very much for posting this video. I saw john heartsman in "88" or "89" at Sac State College and he played this song and it totally blew me away. His flute playing was so " Superfly" and "Gansta". That was the only time I saw him but I vividley remember this particular song and now 22 years later thanks to Youtube and GerreeCee I get to relive it again and again and again!!!

  • I got to play with Heartsman over at Sam's a few times back around the very late eighties. The thing that impressed me so much about him was he was so darn multi dimensional! He was a very special West Coast talent! It didn't matter what he put his hands on, he had wonderful chops!

  • yeah, that's my dad over there on guitar in the yellow hat! I don't think I was at this particular blues fest, but I went to 100s of others and literally grew up at Sam's Hauf Brau!! Boy do I miss those days :)

  • YEAH BABY,YEAH!!!!

  • Holy crap.
