Awesome content as always MM! One thing I've noticed with the "usable" diameter of the M size is it's actually about 33mm not 43mm, because the image blurs on either side of the GoBO at 43mm. Of course your intensity (and size) will be sacrificed a bit, but you'll have the sharpest image possible, and you can zoom out for a bigger picture. I fly my fixtures 17' high on a tripod when doing image on the dance floor, keeping the fixture as vertical as possible. Hope this helps your viewers!
just last weekend at one of my gigs they had a gobo like "peel and stick" graphic right in the middle of the dance floor! i should have taken a photo, it was neat, and just peel it up when your done, wonder how much that costs...
hey we use the full size source 4's. there only 4 inches longer than the zoom and have many options on them. Especially the barrel rotation so no more hot fingers with gobos. Will put up a video in the next week showing it all on a full size source 4 & a pair of chauvel Q-260.
Excellent entrance mikey mike you always make your vids entertaining and informative. Nice one I will look into gobos this week for sure. Thanks for the gobos 101 lesson.
If you don't mind me asking, what exactly was the issue that the client had with the gobo projection? I use an ETC Source Four Jr Zoom (575 watts) and usually prefer projecting the gobo on the wall, as opposed to the dance floor, because the gobo doesn't pop as well on dark surfaces.
Nice video very informative. The option I took was to use a digital projector 2000 lumens - 3000 lumens brightness. When i weighed up the cost of gobos it made more sense. The logo projection looks great but not that popular in NZ. The projector has the dual purpose for slide shows.
good to know video MM... question? what u do when u make a custom globo for a client? do u give it to them and charge them with ur service price, cuz i know them globo are not cheap.
if you are stuck fo rgobos on te 5r they are 27mm arnt they if so then give me a shout there is a uk company that are silly cheap and always produced a corking product for me with cheap shipping so shouldent be to leathal to ship out to the states
Thanks for the video MM. In some of your recent gig logs it looks like you are using moving heads with bespoke gobos. I think some of them are coloured too? Could you explain or do a video on how to use those sometime? Cheers, Greg .
@GregBeacher I also use Moving heads with custom gobos loded into them but I hate to give up a mover for a static gobo so I use a projector. Movers let you apply color to the images as needed
Great info. Do you feel that a 575w is plenty of punch, or are there times it would be nice to have 750w?
Have you used any discharge lamp projectors? What are your impressions?

have you gotten any donuts for your source 4? it sharpens the image alot more than just a hard focus.
