  • Fun Fact: Pendulum uses Cygnus in some of their songs in their Hold Your Colour album.

  • Fucking impressive, but hell, it keeps crashing Fruity Loop and Linux Multimedia Studio ! Do you know any way to solve this ?

  • My keyboard is only 3 octaves, I did try scrolling thru octaves. I have a 66 note controller I should dig it out.

  • Goosebumps at 1:21

  • Either you totally shaped your own sound, or this is not Cygnus.

  • @bruvvamoff : Or I used a preset included with Cygnus-SF and played it through several octaves with a MIDI keyboard.

  • I just went thru every preset and didn't find anything like this sound :(( I found some better ones tho :)

  • Pull up a photo, any photo from your pc, and play this audio while you stare at it. What photo did you look at? I was looking at a picture of a dog, now it's a scary dog.

  • awesome sund

  • still just sounds like a vsti.

  • one of my favourites, but if use it to much, my pc is getting killed

  • these sound like sounds from a 50s alien horror movie.

  • Would you mind if i used this song in a Half-life 2 map? :D Its really scary ^^ would fit perfect

  • @toxic996 : As long as you give credit (preferably to "Robbi-985 aka SomethingUnreal", to try to avoid confusion), please feel free. ^^

  • this is so cool!

how do i get this great synth!

  • Thanks!!!

  • Brilliant, thanks.

Also can you remember the preset on Cygnus that you used for this?

  • Unfortunately not. It was quite a while ago that I made this. I think the preset number was something in the twenties, though, but I might be remembering wrongly.

  • Hello, thanks for the great demo.

I was wondering how you recorded this from your Cantibile Lite to get a high-quality mp3? Thanks in advance.

  • Cantabile has a built-in audio recorder which records WAV files (directly from the output of the VST synths/plugins). I used that to record me playing on the synth, and then used a freeware audio-editing program called Audacity to convert it from a WAV to an MP3. Audacity uses an MP3 encoder called LAME, which gives the best quality for MP3s that I've heard, and it's also free.

  • I thought that I had already commented on this video, but obviously not. Many thanks for posting such a good Demo.

  • So you loaded this synth in FL? Nice sounds, I'm like the other guy, when I edit them they usually sound bad, or just not that different. These are great.

  • Actually, I just used a freeware VST host program called Cantabile Lite. I just needed any basic host because I was controlling the synth live with a MIDI keyboard, not with a sequencer.

  • lol what do you mean by "generated" u just randomized the vst?

    thats insane XD

cuz most of the vsts i randomize make disgusting nasty crispy voices

probably this works on FM filters or something O-O

  • Yes, one of the 3 oscillators is an FM one. I didn't randomize it - I used a preset (I can't remember which one, though), and made up stuff as I went along on a MIDI keyboard.

  • I've downloaded the DLL but can you point me to a 'freeware' host for this plug-in?

    Would be much appreciated! ;-)

  • Personally, I'd recommend one called "Cantabile Lite" (I used an old version of that program while recording the audio in this video). Note that on their site, they give download links for a "Cantabile Lite" (which is freeware), and a demo of the full version (which is limited in some way). The Lite version just limits the maximum number of things you can do at any one time, but you can use it forever and it doesn't stop you from doing things like saving/loading.

  • If you put this in to a horror game.. Oh my god I dont want to play that game

  • This is great! I just discovered this synth whilst looking for free synths that do spacey sounds, pads, eerie stuff etc and found the Krakli page. I'm gonna have lots of fun with this.!!..Will use it in my VST host FLStudio.

  • this vst is amazing. thanks for posting.

  • sorry this is FERRware does that means its free? and is it MAC compatible

  • Yes, "freeware" = "free software".

Cygnus isn't a program by itself - it's just a DLL file. You'll need to look for a freeware "VST host" program which will load the DLL file. There are certainly VST host programs for Macs, and I presume that they'll have no problem loading the Cygnus DLL.

You might want to research a bit about VST (VSTi) hosts and plugins to get a better idea of what they are. I hope this helps!

  • Omar, I meant!

  • Cygnus Vismund? Inspired by Mars Volta or vice versa? Cedric makes similar sounds in Cygnus Vismund on his guitar, infact on the whole De Loused album...

  • Awesome! Thanks for the tip. Didn't know of this amazingly tool!

  • increible.... ;)

  • Boo to You...

    Nice!

  • I loved this synth and gave it 5 out of 5 on my site Big Softsynth Review, which reviews some 50 freeware VST Windows based softsynths; loved the space skin, too; although recommend the conventional one! Great stuff!

  • Damn! Sleeping with the lights on tonight.

  • the specs make this out to be something impressive, but to me the base samples sound very compressed, flat and lifeless... if the samples were higher quality, it would be much better.

  • Cygnus doesn't use samples, it's all synthesized.

Did you try it yourself? I wouldn't judge sound based on YouTube audio...compressed? duh. ;)

    If you did, fair enough.

  • Cool sounds - I think I could use this kind of sound in our music.

Thanks - check out my video and let me know what you think.

  • where can i get it or download it?????

  • Please check the links in the video description. You can download the music as an MP3 from the first link. The second link takes you to the home page of the creators of the synth, where you can download the synth.

  • sounds good for making film music

  • TOP PROFESSIONAL sound effects...I got to get one to test and compose.

  • Agree! Full synth, no wavetables.. Guy who made Cyngnus must be freakin genius in synthedit, or wherever he made it!

  • i loooove cygnus, imo its one of the best vsts for making ambient music!

  • Reminds me of the part in resident evil 4 after you kill del lego and save ashley. then the village gets all dark and the zombies are all hidden in the dark, and all you can see is their dark silhouettes.....creepy

  • ...wow...

  • *shivers* Creepy...but I like it! Definitly music...that...I wouldn't listen to at night...>.>;;; *hides under covers*

  • sounds like it belongs in a horror sory.

  • yea it sounds kinda like pyhsco at 1st

  • oh, does this plug-in work with programs like, say, Adobe After Effects? Ifnot, then what programme should I get (freeware) that can use this plug-in?

  • It's a VST plugin, so it'll work with any program which can host VST (sometimes called 'VSTi') plugins.

    I recommend 'Cantabile Lite'.

Check my response to Kruemo's comment, a little way down the page, for more info. ;)

  • google " tobybear " and download MINIHOST

you may also have to download the

    ADSIO driver as well.

  • holy crap! these are freaky :P it is scaring the living daylights outta me :( lol

I gotta get this program... ;-)

  • Wow talk about creepy that would go great in a silent hill game.

  • Really, nice. I`ll check this VST :)

  • How to use the Plug-In? I downloaded the plugin, but what program do i need to use it?

  • Use any program which can accept 'VST' or 'VSTi' plugins. There are a few free ones around. One of the easiest-to-use free programs I know of, and recommend you use, is Cantabile. They do a 'Lite' version, which is free, and not restricted in any way. It's just missing some features that their 'paid' version has, but nothing stupid like you can't save songs, etc. The main thing is it's limited to the number of plugins you can have running at any one time (4).

  • Ok, thank you very much. =)

  • Reminds me of the Alien music.

  • Oh I got to get this Cygnus. These ambient sounds are just what I want, when I'm designing ambient sounds for our amateur films. Especially the artistic scenes.

  • Thanks for the post, it was great to hear what you are doing with Cygnus

  • wow man you cool , thanks
