I remember the park benches on the first bend most definitely! Speedway at Hackney was the greatest! Friday at 8 certainly was a night to remember. God bless Leaping Len!
Hackney Speedway was the fairest and best prepared racing track in the UK - not my view but that of many riders (Kings Lynn was a close second).
It was a travesty that this great Stadium closed only to be replaced by a gippo camp site.
As for the film clip - I don't remember the park benches on the first bend and I'm sure Len Silver had better stadium security than a few sticks in the grass!!
Sat on that bench many a time as a little boy on the hill at the first bend...This Great stadium now buried under the 2012 olympic site..How sad :(
