From where do you get your information Tang didn't even reach to those far places let alone share border with India. Until the situation improves and becomes acceptable, China should get ready for facing a backlash. The Pan-Turkist's ability to cause harm is minuscule and they can be easily discredited as racial chauvinits. The Muslim world is not united. There is actually a hierarchy in the Muslim world. The Arabs are higher than the stans, and the stans are higher than the north Africans. Most Muslims in the middle east probably don't acknowledge Indonesia or Malaysia even though one of them is the most populated Muslim country in the world. Right now the Arabs are trying to have more trades with China and it does not look like they will give that up for 10 million Muslims in East/central asia.

From where do you get your information Tang didn't even reach to those far places let alone share border with India. I hardly think the takeover of East Turkistan in 1946 is peaceful when many peasants/farmers were killed mercilessly by PLA forces. Since when have uyguirs been killing Hans its the other way round mate. Close to 50 nuclear bombs are tested in Tibet and E Turkistan this hardly something to be proud of look at the number of sky rocketing defects in the children born in this area.

I sincerely hope one day this becomes a reality in one form or another and, if not, at least some meaningful peace can exist between the different groups. For this to happen, every human being must elevate him/herself and become broadminded, as you mentioned in the post to which I responded. That in itself is the greatest struggle, the struggle of the mind.

EU and NAFTA are first steps, for the progress of humanity we need Asian Union, African Union and South American Union and a greater coordination between all regional unions for an eventual merger of global federation far in the future. As the world becomes smaller in this global village, the smaller marginalized cultures will become prosperous and find their voice, the oppressed and the indigenous will be able to find greater rights, independence and sovereignty. Knowledge, technology and research used to be exclusive domain of certain nations, today the world is becoming flat. European Union style political union is difficult in Asia, as there are diverse and vast ethnic groups and cultures, but a monetary, customs and economic union opening up borders is possible in Asian landmass that will bring the center of gravity of world civilization back to Asia after a brief few centuries interlude, because that is where it was for all of known human history.

rangerescue, I agree that "Might is Right" and it is the law of the jungles, essentially we are no different than other animals, only with higher level creativity in our better developed brain. We have nuclear bombs to annihilate the entire planet, but is it possible to use them without consequences, soon every country in the world of some size will have enough of them. Might is fast becoming obsolete and that is why there are so many oppressed groups that are clamoring for self determination.

The Chinese has the potential to make the wrong into a right with right policies, so does Turkey with Kurds. I appeal to young people to be just and great hearted, life is short and we come to this earth to do great things. Rise above the narrow ideas and prejudices of your parents and grand-parents, a new future awaits us where all can live with dignity. But it must start with each one of us to care about all, not just the people of our tribe, ethnic or religious group.

well said, i personally feel that the best solution at the moment is for uighurs and chinese and other ethnic groups to live and prosper together. I think the chinese government is doing a decent job of improving the lives of those in xinjiang. I know many will not agree with this statement but it is a hard fact and a reflection of the not-so-pretty portrait of human history. land grabbing is an ongoing vicious cycle. when ancestors of uighurs arrived in xinjiang they annihilated, assimilated, or removed former residents. would it be ok to the uighurs if these former residents lay claim to what uighurs believe is theirs? ultimately there is no moral grounds, justifications for land rights as land belongs to noone other than the conquerors. To the victors goes the spoils as they say. It sounds harsh but it's true. humans are not angels you know. If some uighurs feel strongly about sovereignty, then they are going to have to fight the chinese government and win. this all goes back to the notion of land grabbing and and i don't see it ending anytime soon.. Someday I hope people on this planet would grow up from their narrow ideas and accept others as they are and not try to impose their own ideas on them. We occupy a territory and call it our country, we occupy regions and people so we can exploit resources and gain strategic foothold, a wrong is a wrong, whether it is done by one person or a billion people. This is for suffering Moro Muslims in Philippines, the Thai Muslims, The Kashmiri's in India, The Uyghurs in China, The Chechens in Russia, The Kurds in Turkey, The Fur Muslims in Darfur and all other suffering Muslim and other peoples in the world, we need to remember to say dua for all of them. I admit my knowledge of Turkey is not first hand and I agree that all Muslim people in Osmanli intermarried, just as in other Muslim places. But I disagree with the definition of a Turk as a citizen of Turkey, this has been a saga of confusion that was unfair to the rest of Turkic peoples, who now have to call themselves "Turkic" instead of a true Turk. The citizen of Turkey of Turkic ancestry can be more accurately called "Osmanli" rather than "Turk".

If you are a Muslim you should listen to what Tobytherat is saying. The Arabs all of them together could not beat Israel and the Turkic people all of them together are no match for China. South Asian Muslims cannot stand up to India. It takes a wise Chinese to point out that till there is Unity, Muslim affairs will not be counted. Till then, some will order private Airbus A380 and others will rot in the gutter, we can only blame ourselves for our past, present and future.

Until the situation improves and becomes acceptable, China should get ready for facing a backlash. The Pan-Turkist's ability to cause harm is minuscule and they can be easily discredited as racial chauvinits. Islamic extremists can be dismissed as terrorists, but you cannot ignore the opinion of 1.5 billion strong Muslim world and of course the opinion of the entire world, as more and more light is focused in this region.

The Muslim world is not united. There is actually a hierarchy in the Muslim world. The Arabs are higher than the stans, and the stans are higher than the north Africans. Most Muslims in the middle east probably don't acknowledge Indonesia or Malaysia even though one of them is the most populated Muslim country in the world. Right now the Arabs are trying to have more trades with China and it does not look like they will give that up for 10 million Muslims in East/central asia.

CPC ways are hard, executions are common for crimes all over China, but when it happens in these three regions, it takes a different dimension, it is no longer Han killing their own Han criminals. China needs to take a different policy on these matters in these three regions, as they are more sensitive. Finally when real sharing of power and economic opportunities take place, people will stop complaining and like you said, become happy partners for building the next super power.

Uyghur, Kazak, Kyrgyz, Hui and other indigenous Muslim cultures in Xinjiang are special authentic cultural relic preserved in a time capsule, something that was destroyed in Soviet Central Asia. Arabic script is just one aspect that shows how it was kept intact. This is a world as well as Muslim cultural heritage and is priceless. As an up and coming state, we expect that China take responsibility to preserve this precious heritage and not try to destroy it with cultural suppression for security

So all the misdeeds will come back to haunt ten fold, just like the Japanese atrocities in Korea and China are coming back to haunt them. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, so my humble advice, be wise, be circumspect, follow the golden rule - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Today Uyghur graduates are learning Chinese and getting govt. jobs, but if they pray in mosque, they risk losing their jobs or getting demoted, just one example.

China needs these three regions, more than they need China, for resources, lebensraum (living space) and strategic location. But since it has power and population it chooses to club them to submission and make sure that independence does not remain an option, not now or in the future, against their will.
